State high court says no redo on casino case

The Florida Supreme Court moved on Thursday to deny Gov. Charlie Crist's request for a rehearing on the Seminole tribal case. The ruling was 6-1 to deny the rehearing. Only Justice Fred Lewis disagreed.

In July, the Florida Supreme Court struck down Crist's casino gambling compact with the Seminole Tribe, ruling that he lacked authority to unilaterally forge a deal. House Speaker Marco Rubio, a Miami Republican and gambling opponent, filed the original suit in November.

It'll be the same thing when folks find out CRIST is HIGH pressuring the appraisers to RAISE their value of the US Sugar land. Turns out the original report that just got turned in is not enough to justify the price and CRIST is telling them to raise it higher!

The Seminole Tribe may ignored this ruling completely.

All the Seminoles need to do now is use this decision as proof that the State is unwilling to negotiate a gaming compact.

Then, they have the right to petition the Department of Interior for thier right to engage in Class III (real stuff - craps, blackjack et al) gaming and the State gets $0. The federal government gets twice this amount.

The moral: They will have real gaming...soon. Had the State issued them a compact, the state would share in a portion of the revenue. Now, we get $0.

legalize gambling, everywhere

Two big time gaffs on Charles Gibson's part:
1 - He misquoted Palin regarding Iraq troops and God. In response, she said she wasn't sure those were her words. Then he assured her that the quote was exact. WRONG. In fact the entire sentence of her quote should have been:
''Pray that our national leaders are sending our troops on a task that is from God.''
Gibson left out the two words ''Pray that'' that entirely changes the meaning of the quote. This is HUGE and demands an apology, ASAP.
2 - He asked her about Bush Doctrine which is a multifaceted Doctrine. She rightly asked what aspect of the Doctrine. He lectured her that the SOLE MEANING of the Bush Doctrine was the U.S. right to preemptively attack a nation, even if their attack is not imminent. Again, this is only one aspect of the Doctrine. Gibson goofed, big time, and acted like Palin didn't know the answer. In fact, he didn't know the answer.

12;45 You are on the right track. If the Seminoles decide that they want to bypass the state then this is a very sensible option. Your proposal responds to Florida's dire financial condition. Florida already condones legalized gaming with its lottery and parimutual industry. Florida itself is a major gambler with its $100 Billion wager on Citizens Insuranace Company. Florida can be a Nevada of the south and as Nevada, a family destination. Statewide gaming would not only stimulate tourism and construction, but add a major jolt to our state income without the additional burden on overtaxed property owners. Replace property taxes (including school taxes) with gaming income. It is time for Florida to rethink its opposition to legalized gaming as we have had to do with offshore drilling. Every now and then reality slaps us in the face and we must respond appropriately. Florida's tax base is already in the toilet and the housing and home construction bust is showing no signs of recovery. Time to go for a hail Mary.

Isn't over-appraised property something that lended to the housing/foreclosure crisis?

Charlie - wait six years and the appraisal/price will drop like a rock and you should be able to get the property for a song and dance...

But guess Ballard is pulling the puby hairs on this deal...

Thank you for being vigilant 9:17. The media trashing of Sarah Palin continues. I watched the same biased interviewing of John McCain at Columbia last night. Interesting how Obama got to watch McCain and conform his answers accordingly. Judy went after McCain and sucked up to Obama. It was absolutely disgusting.

How does one man allow Florida to lose $100 million plus.

Just ask Marco Rubio.

Way to go moron.

Charlie, maybe you should slow down now and get married, plant a garden, stay a while and don't rush in to things because you are not leaving the State now. You could even have a couple of kids too. Like Jeff your LG. Look how happy he is and he has a wonderful son. Have a son Charlie. Charlie Crist with a son.
