Crist & RPOF: A mixed early-voting message
Shortly before before Gov. Charlie Crist ordered early voting expanded on Tuesday -- noting in his order that there are "only" 267 early voting sites in Florida -- the Republican Party of Florida put out a very different message.
RPOF was answering criticism of Pinellas Supervisor of Elections Deboran Clark for her refusal to open more than three early voting sites in the county. (A Democratic Party official, Jon Ausman, labeled Clark a "suppressor of elections" and called for a grand jury probe of her office).
In response to Ausman's criticism, the Republican Party issued a statement, a part of which read as follows: "Florida's voters have unprecedented access to convenient ways to cast their vote, including 15 days to cast their vote in person and several weeks during which they may vote absentee in the comfort of their own homes."
Here's what Crist said at an afternoon news conference: "I want to make sure that the maximum number of citizens can take part in our electoral process." Having spoken with general counsel Jason Gonzalez and Democratic state Rep. Dan Gelber, Crist said, "It is my predeliction to always want to have voting as easy to be done as possible."
After Crist issued his order, the GOP issued a statement that said: "Republicans have always said that we want as many legal, legitimate voters to participate in the elections process as possible, and we commend Gov. Crist for his leadership in making that happen."
It is worth noting who was among the first to enthusastically praise Crist's early voting order. They are Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Karen Thurman; U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, D-Miami; U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Tampa; Common Cause; AARP; and ACORN.

Oooooh, those commie marxists at AARP make me so ANGRY! (spittle).

Funny Spelling Mistake, thanks for the laugh

The idea is to get voters out and involved and not to discourage the democracy that makes our country great. Even Crist understands this. That the RPOF tries to cling to technicalities in an effort to create partisan vote supression only furthers the low opinion people have of that organization.

Apparently you editor was half asleep while "editing" this piece. There are at least three spelling errors alone.

Gov. Charlie Crist has just declared "a state of emergency" in Florida, due to the overwhelming number of Floridians eager to cast their votes early.
That's why yesterday he issued an executive order to dramatically expand early voting.
Effective immediately, every early voting site in the state will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. through Friday, October 31st, and for a total of 12 hours between 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1st, and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2nd.
To find your Early Vote location now, visit FL.VoteForChange.com and vote early right away.
Certain locations may not be open on Sunday. If you have questions about weekend hours at your nearest location or anything else, please call 1-877-235-6226, or contact your county's Supervisor of Elections.
The executive order not only extends the Early Vote deadline, it also increases the time that locations are open weekdays to 12 hours a day -- beyond the 8 hours a day mandated by state law.
It is crucial that everyone who is eligible and eager to vote be able to participate and have their voice heard. And now with the extended hours, thousands more will have that opportunity.
We encourage Floridians to continue casting their votes before Election Day, either at an early voting location or by mail, and to participate in this election -- because voting is democracy in action.
Find your location now, and bring your friends and family with you to cast your ballot for change:
http://fl.voteforchange.com
And again, any questions, please call 1-877-235-6226.
Thanks,
Steve

Early voting is set up so the poor and unemployed can vote.

Most folks are just now starting to pay attention. The chaff is pretty much blown away now so they can see the candidates for what they are or are not. Now people will REALLY decide for whom to vote, based upon their own particular set of values. It's the only poll that counts.

this is the first smart move Chuckles the clown Crist has made since he became Governor.
He realizes his approval ratings have been dropping like a rock, so in typical Charlisque fashion, he bows to the whims of the polls.
Problem is, he had to talk to Dan Gelber for advice? Give me a f'ing break!

You cannot help the poor, by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak, by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity, by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up, by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man, by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage, by taking away men"s initiative and independence.
You cannot help 20 men permanently, by doing for them what they could and should,

What Obama, Pelosi and Reid have been up to in DC!
It's known as the Global Poverty Act. It has been passing on VOICE VOTES ONLY for political cover!
It is a global Socialist UN tax with far-reaching implications such as confiscation of small arms and Kyoto compliance. It is shocking to say the least what Obama and the democrats have now proven to be capable of. We're talking 845 billion dollars for the Global Poverty Act and it would be a perpetuity tax! In addition it includes a secondary bill for 75 billion that would forgive all outstanding loans from 3rd World countries. The grand sum total for the first year ONLY would be 920 billion dollars - money we do not have at all, but why hasn't anyone besides Glenn Beck told you of such a horrendously evil Socialist Global UN tax???
The Democrats DO NOT WANT YOU TO KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN UP TO because they are trying to end US sovereignty. They have been bought out by the globalist Socialist CEO's
Watch Glenn Beck's video, and when you get mad enough to vote for principle for one day in your life, vote for Mc Cain - Palin 08

Competitive American Workers: John McCain understands that globalization will not automatically benefit every American. We must prepare the next generation of workers by making American education worthy of the promise we make to our children and ourselves. We must be a nation committed to competitiveness and opportunity. We must fight for the ability of all students to have access to any school of demonstrated excellence. We must place parents and children at the center of the education process, empowering parents by greatly expanding the ability of parents to choose among schools for their children.
That's John Mc Cain
Obama offers the same old tax and spend policies and wants to move America to a socialist state.

Cut Taxes For Middle Class Families: Hard-working American families need lower taxes. John McCain will permanently repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) -- a tax that will be paid nearly exclusively by 25 million middle class families. John McCain will repeal this onerous tax, saving middle class families nearly $60 billion in a single year. Under McCain's plan, a middle class family with children set to pay the AMT will save an average of over $2,700 -- a real tax cut for working families.

If voting is extended to 7:00p.m. these extra days, does that mean there is no "happy hour" at my watering holes. Can one buy booze in Florida when voting booths are open?
Posted by: | October 29, 2008 at 12:59 PM
It is not about trying to keep people away from the polls... it is about following the laws of this state when making decisions...
The governor does not have the authority to extend voting hours...
Don't get me wrong, I will be happy when there is no line when I go to vote...
But my guess is, by issuing his executive order, he may be putting the early votes in jeopardy...

William J. H. Boetcker (1873 – 1962) was an American religious leader and influential public speaker.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, he was ordained a Presbyterian minister soon after his arrival in the United States as a young adult. He quickly gained attention as an eloquent motivational speaker, and is often regarded today as the forerunner of such contemporary "success coaches" as Anthony Robbins.
An outspoken political conservative, Rev. Boetcker is perhaps best remembered for his authorship of a pamphlet entitled The Ten Cannots. Originally published in 1916, it is often misattributed to Abraham Lincoln. The error apparently stems from a leaflet printed in 1942 by a conservative political organization called the Committee for Constitutional Government. The leaflet bore the title "Lincoln on Limitations" and contained some genuine Lincoln quotations on one side and the "Ten Cannots" on the other, with the attributions juxtaposed. The mistake of crediting Lincoln for having been the source of "The Ten Cannots" has been repeated many times since, most notably by Ronald Reagan in a speech he gave at the 1992 Republican convention in Houston.
There are several minor variants of the pamphlet in circulation, but the most commonly-accepted version appears below:
* You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
* You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
* You cannot help little men by tearing down big men.
* You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
* You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
* You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
* You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
* You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
* You cannot build character and courage by destroying men's initiative and independence.
* And you cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.

You know, one big symbol of our times is these payday lending organizations. Did you know that their business model calls for annual percentage rates of 381% on the loans they make?!
When you're picking your candidate, try to decide which one of them will do something to get rid of this loan sharking that preys on those of meager means. Try to decide which one left these American workers with a paycheck so paltry that they have to rely on these places. Try to decide which one of them is to blame for banks that will deny these people an account and yet turn around and give these banks a bailout from the taxes on the very checks they seek to cash.
And finally, ask what those charged with fiscal responsibility in our state are doing to protect the citizens from this legalized robbery.

The US military reckons that al Qaeda is almost finished in Iraq. I’ve seen comment that this should benefit the Republicans.
Well, I really do hope that at long last al Qaeda is finished in Iraq, but it tends to be forgotten that before the Iraq war al Qaeda was never in Iraq, due to Bin Laden and Saddam loathing each other as much as they each hated the West.
It was the Bush administration’s criminal failure to have in place a coherent What Happens Next? plan that left a power vacuum into which al Qaeda quickly stepped after regrouping following its astonishing let-off in Afghanistan. US and Allied forces clearly had Bin Laden on the ropes until Bush’s inexplicable decision to switch focus and go after Saddam instead.
As a direct result of the al Quaeda-inspired violence, thousands of US and Allied military members have been killed or maimed. If ever there was a case for the most senior members of the US’s Republican administration to face prosecution then that was it.
And in addition to military casualties, almost 90,000 Iraqi civilians - men, women and children - have lost their lives since Bush declared “Mission accomplished!”. That figure, totalled up by the organization Iraq Body Count, is the lowest estimate I’ve seen. A UN study says the figure is 10 times higher.
That this enormous civilian death toll or the millions of refugees te carnage has caused is rarely mentioned in the US media - and has not figured on either side in the race for the White House - is to America’s shame.
To hope that al Qaeda might be finished is just not good enough.

Used to be that 13% lending rates were called usurious. Now it's commonplace. Predatory lending is what it is. What has either party - Democrat or Republican - done to correct that?
