GOP e-mail raises charges of racism
An e-mail sent by Hillsborough County Republican Party chairman David Storck has critics within the party charging racism. At least one member of the local party has called for Storck's resignation. The e-mail, written by volunteer Ron Whitley and forwarded by Storck to about 400 party members, says that "I see carloads of black Obama supporters coming from the inner city to cast their votes for Obama. This is their chance to get a black president and they seem to care little that he is at minimum, socialist, and probably Marxist in his core beliefs. After all, he is black -- no experience or accomplishments -- but he is black." Near the end of the e-mail, Whitley writes: "There is only one way to stop Obama: Vote!!!"
Storck prefaced the forwarded e-mail by saying: "If you think it can help us win this election please pass it on."
Curtis Stokes, a member of the Hillsborough County GOP and president of the Hillsborough chapter of the NAACP, said Storck should not have forwarded the e-mail. "He's putting fear in the minds of whomever he sent that e-mail to that Barack Obama is a black guy, and do you want to vote for a black guy, as if there's something wrong with being black. That's not the way you urge people to get out and vote," Stokes said. "David Storck's not a good representative of the Republican Party if that's what' he's sending out. He needs to resign."
Storck initially defended the e-mail, saying it was simply a way to tell Republicans that "we need to get off our butts and vote, too." Later, Storck said he did not endorse the statement. "It's one of hundreds of e-mails I sent out," he said. "It was a mistake."

This e-mail was sent to me from one of our Volunteers in the Temple Terrace office. If you think it can help us win this election please pass it on. This election is now in our hands everyone can make a difference.
Thanks
Dave
THE THREAT: HERE IN TEMPLE TERRACE, FL OUR REPUBLICAN HQ IS ONE BLOCK AWAY FROM OUR LIBRARY, WHICH IS AN EARLY VOTING SITE.
I SEE CARLOADS OF BLACK OBAMA SUPPORTERS COMING FROM THE INNER CITY TO CAST THEIR VOTES FOR OBAMA. THIS IS THEIR CHANCE TO GET A BLACK PRESIDENT AND THEY SEEM TO CARE LITTLE THAT HE IS AT MINIMUM, SOCIALIST, AND PROBABLY MARXIST IN HIS CORE BELIEFS. AFTER ALL, HE IS BLACK -- NO EXPERIENCE OR ACCOMPLISHMENTS -- BUT HE IS BLACK.
I ALSO SEE YOUNG COLLEGE STUDENTS AND THEIR PROFESSORS FROM USF PARKING THEIR CARS WITH THE PROMINENT 'OBAMA' BUMPER STICKERS. THE STUDENTS ARE ENTHUSIASTIC TO BE VOTING IN A HISTORIC ELECTION WHERE THERE MAY BE THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT.
THE COLLEGE PROFESSORS, PARTICULARLY IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES, FOR THE MOST PART HAVE LITTLE OR NO EXPERIENCE IN THE WORK-A-DAY WORLD.
THEIR LIFE EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN MOSTLY ACADEMIC UNDER THE TUTELAGE OF LIBERAL COLLEGE PROFESSORS. FOR THEM, A LITTLE SOCIALISM AND ANTI-AMERICANISM IS A GOOD THING. AFTER ALL, IF TERRORISTS ATTACK US, WE MUST HAVE DONE SOMETHING TO PROVOKE THEM.
YOU AND I UNDERSTAND THE DANGERS THE POTENTIAL OBAMA PRESIDENCY PRESENTS TO OUR WAY OF LIFE. THE SUPPRESSION OF FREE SPEECH, INTRODUCING UNION INTIMIDATION IN THE WORKPLACE, INCREASED DANGERS TO OUR NATION BY TERRORISTS, CUTTING OUR DEFENSE BUDGET BY 25%, TURNING OUR TAX SYSTEM INTO A NATIONAL WELFARE SYSTEM AND ECONOMIC POLICIES THAT COULD DRIVE US INTO A DEPRESSION.
THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO STOP OBAMA: VOTE !!!
(AND GET EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO VOTE)
ONLY YOU AND I CAN STOP OBAMA NOW ! !
SEVEN DAYS TO GO AND WE MUST ACT IMMEDIATELY.
A PLAN OF ACTION FOR YOU AND I:
- VOTE
- OBAMA IS ADVERTISING ON TV ASKING ALL HIS SUPPORTERS TO TAKE A DAY OFF WORK OR CLASS TO VOTE. CONTACT PERSONALLY EVERYONE YOU KNOW REMINDING THEM TO VOTE AND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS. PARENTS, VOTING-AGE CHILDREN, IN-LAWS, CO-WORKERS, CHURCH CONTACTS, SCHOOL CONTACTS, BUSINESS CONTACTS. MAKE A LIST AND CONTACT THEM.
- SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR EMAIL LIST THAT WANTS TO DEFEAT OBAMA. YOUR EMAIL IS AN EFFECTIVE TOOL IF YOU USE IT WISELY AND PROMPTLY. YOU CAN REACH 10,000,000 PEOPLE IN THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS IF AS FEW AS TEN PEOPLE ON YOUR LIST TAKE PROMPT ACTION AND TEN PEOPLE ON THEIR LIST AND TEN PEOPLE ON THEIR LIST ... YOU GET THE IDEA.
- LET'S ALL PRAY AND WORK AND WE WILL SURELY CELEBRATE OUR VICTORY ON 11/5/08.

I hope he doesn't resign. The problem with the dems crying "racism" at everything they think is racist is like the little boy who cried wolf.
Its old and boring.

Storck is right, though there were more tactful ways of getting the message across.
Many voters see only color in this campaign and vote accordingly.
Has anyone heard the Howard Stern bit where his sidekick goes up to Harlem, asks people questions about McCain's policies but as if they were Obama's - and they all agree on the policies sicne they think they're Obamas
Posted by: | October 30, 2008 at 02:21 PM
Like for real 2:13, me and my republican buddies would never claim racism about anything. Now sexism, that is a legitimate charge in any circumstance.
Luv ya xoxo,

2:13 PM: Did you even read the article? Storck is receiving criticism from *his own party*. This isn't the case of Democrats claiming he's being racist, it's Storck being racist and members of his own party embarrassed by it and trying to distance themselves from this loose cannon.

Did he lie? Sounds like he's telling the truth.
Posted by: Mark Johnson | October 30, 2008 at 02:23 PM
I am so glad that I am voting for Obama.
Posted by: ST | October 30, 2008 at 02:25 PM
I suppose most folks did not hear Howard Stern's radio report on when he sent his colleague into Harlem to ask the black folks who they would be voting. The kicker was all the black folks said they would be voting for Obama, even though Howard's colleague was reciting McCain's plan for our country. Too, when they were asked if Sarah Palin was a good pick? They all responded that they were okay with her. So, you are Black 1st, and American 2nd. It was a shameful display of ugly Americans. Now, why do I live in this country? Certainly question it all now!

What do you call President Bush using the Treasury as his piggy bank to bail out his financial buddies.
Who do you think will pay for that in the long run. Not the rich but us middle class.
It is time for a change because the status quo (Republican) is not working!!
Posted by: | October 30, 2008 at 02:27 PM
WOW..........a truly sad day for America and what America is supposed to stand for.
If this wasn't "racist" then why not just say "...I see carloads of people coming to vote, and statistics show Democrats vote early, so these carloads (especially the ones emblazened with Obama stickers) must be voting DEMOCRAT..." ?
Posted by: JOHN | October 30, 2008 at 02:28 PM
Actually he is a perfect representative for the Republican party as his e-mail is just perfectly illustrating that they are an ignorant, racist gutter party!!
Posted by: Keith | October 30, 2008 at 02:31 PM
Read the article! It's Republicans bringing this to light and asking for his resignation...NOT DEMOCRATS.
Obama is not a racist or a marxist...LOL. What a bunch of BS! I an't wait to watch the neo-cons heads spin on Nov. 5. It's going to be like a scene from the Exorcist.

2:13 and 2:21, you all are ignorant. In case you all haven't noticed, it's not just blacks that are voting for Obama - all smart people are. You would have to be dumber than a box of rocks to think that McCain's policies are better than Obama's. Obama has a plan for the economy. McCain has Joe the Plumber.

Reason number 1, 233 to NOT VOTE for the Geezer and the Dingbat. They should change the republican party name to the "Klan Party".

OBAMA GUILT BY ASSOCIATION-OR ASSOCIATED WITH GUILT?
Tax my 401k and only those making under 150k get a tax break or welfare check.
The 250k didn't last long did it?
Well he did vote to tax those making 42k so I'm sure it will go down more

Just another closed minded bigot.
Republicans: Racists
Ignorant
Outdated. Buckle up cause THIS is the new world order!

For all this talk about "liberals and socialists" - Obama has the majority of support in the U.S. I find it hard to believe that over half of Americans are what this gentleman accuses Obama supporters of being. I'm not - I'm a fiscal conservative who is tired of seeing the U.S. spend on foreign peoples, and tired of us meddling in the affairs of foreign countries. The Republican party does not represent my form of conservatism - I'm voting for Obama. The last Democrat in the White House balanced the budget.

Hey 2:13, why don't you and your idiot friends spend election day guarding that giant Confederate Swaztika flag out on I-4.
That piece of crap just fills me pride whenever I think of visitors getting an eyefull of it.
Posted by: TechRider | October 30, 2008 at 02:39 PM
It's so much fun watching the GOP implode; it'll be anyone's guess as to how the party will reinvent itself. I don't see how the intelligent moderate Republicans can ever reconcile with the feeble-minded far right. Fascinating stuff!
Posted by: Anne | October 30, 2008 at 02:39 PM
Yes this is somewhat racist but it is overtly ignorant. It alienates the two groups who are going to carry this election for Obama - blacks and young people. Mr Storck should resign for being a racist and for being a complete idiot.
Posted by: | October 30, 2008 at 02:40 PM
2:33 and Stan:
We are not ignorant, we are sick to death of being branded 'racist' because I won't vote for a socialist. I am a minority woman who is disgusted by the way Obama and his party are the only playing the race card in this election. No one from the McCain campaign, nor anyone speaking on his behalf has never made a comment about Obama's race, only he has.
Is there still racism in this country? Yes. Is it as bad as you want me to believe it is? No.
Do you look like idiots branding us racists? Yes.
Keep crying wolf.

Temple Terrace has an "inner city"?
Posted by: | October 30, 2008 at 02:42 PM
The core conservatives of the GOP have let themselves be overrun, by the old guard Dixiecrats and the religious nutbags.
They have allowed their party to become irrelevant.

2:27,
One of my favorite political quotes ever was made by Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan during the Social Security Reform debates in the early eighties. He said "Everyone is entitled to thier own opinion...but not thier own facts."
The fact is that the middle class does not pay taxes. The top 10% of wage earners in this country account for 71% of all federal income taxes collected. The top 40% of wage earners account for 99.6% of all income taxes collected. So, the lowest 60% of income earners account for an aggregate of .4% of federal income taxes collected. You may be of the opinion that the middle class will pay for these policies but the fact is, they won't.
Secondly, before you go off castigating President Bush's "financial buddies" I would check Obama's contribution reports. Trust me, there are plenty of executives at bulge bracket and non Wall St firms alike who have made large contributions to both the DNC and Obama directly.
Posted by: Ignatius | October 30, 2008 at 02:43 PM
I'm black and conservative(but not pro-McCain) and I agree with the email. So many blacks are voting just because Obama is at least half black(hey, that's good enough) The heck with his issues and viewpoints. What's that thing Dr King said in his "I Have a Dream" speech? Something about "Not the color of one's skin but the content of one's character?" A lot of black voters are such uninformed hypocrites and are darn well voting for "The Mulatto Messiah" solely for that reason.
Posted by: | October 30, 2008 at 02:43 PM
IT MATTERS:
OBAMA'S associations with America Haters, Hateful Biggots, Communists, Muslim Terrorists, Crooks and Criminals; It all matters, IT ALL MATTERS!
Day by Day, more and more, the tide is turning.
Too Bad for HILLARY and McCain and Americans it took this long to finally figure out A SHAM ELECTION.
AND THE MEDIA AND ITS,
"FLYING MONKEES", WILL PAY
YOU CAN COUNT IT...... *

This shows how little and narrow minded the writer of the email is: ...college professors...have little or no experience in the work-a-day world...
Oh really?! I disagree. The writer's ignorance is on a par with Sarah Palin's. Economic policies that will drive us into a depression? Obviously you are talking about McBush, right?!

I don't want my wealth "spread" to a a people who don't work for thier money. (7 billion dollar financial institution bail out) . I don't want my speech, my rights (patriot act), my medicial care (row vs wade) or the knowledge of science (stem cell research) limited or dictated by the government. I believe in the rebulican idea of limited government and a strong capitalist society but the republican party no longer does. I'm voting Obama.
Posted by: Kim | October 30, 2008 at 02:53 PM
2:51, the rules are different for Obama; he can commit highway robbery and no one cares. The media doesn't care, and his rabid supporters are so spellbound that he could spit on them and they'd like it. That's what makes this snake oil salesman so dangerous.

Holly,If you goto moon lake in Pasco and ask them why they ARE NOT voting for Obama, I'd put my money on because he is black. Obama has my vote and I know Palin isn't his running mate.People in this Country vote for dumb reasons like race...but it is and always will be. On another note...I'm tired of seeing Obama bashing commercials and junk mail in my mailbox. Does McCain have any ideas? I feel like he has high school tactics and he's running for class president.Obama will be the next president so Republicans sit down and chew it!

What prompted that moron Storck to send this e-mail?
He is a racist, as are the posters here who see no problem with what he wrote. I am glad to see our nation labelling this crap for what it is. If the Republicans had any substansive issues to actually promote, they wouldn't be inciting the loony fringe and the racists to "let it all hang out." I voted yesterday, and the spectacle of Republican racism had me voting against every local candidate with an R next to his/her name. If you Republicans can't see the problem with Storck's e-mail, then you will lose heavily and deservedly so.
Posted by: | October 30, 2008 at 02:59 PM
Wow! What was once the party of Lincoln and the progressive Teddy Roosevelt has become a frightening array of bigots. Their inability to distinguish between different people within groups is no doubt why we are in the mess we are in overseas. If all liberals are socialist, then all middle easterners must be terrorist. No wonder they can't distinguish between a jihadist and a an American with an unusual name. This is symptomatic of a larger problem--narrow mindedness.

Everyone needs to grow up and play fair, black or white may the best candiate win for his merrits not his color.
