Greer calls out (literally) Mahoney on scandal
Florida Republican Chairman Jim Greer paid a visit to Congressman Tim Mahoney's office in Stuart today and urged him to resign amid a broadening sex scandal. In this picture, Greer uses his cell phone to ask Mahoney to come outside (was he even there?) and address the issue. Photo provided by RPOF.

"Yo, Tim! It's me Jim. Now that the public knows you're not perfect, maybe we can hang together at my strip club? First pole dance is on me!"

this is really a bad turn of events and i believe he should step aside.
i'm a dem too

When will the Republican party realize that these political stunts aren't working this election season
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 01:40 PM
This is an embarrassment to the Rep Party of Florida. Crist needs to denounce quickly, and distance himself from this stunt and Greer. This is the epitome of what is wrong with politics.
Greer better hope there are no skeletons in his closet, Crist's or any other Florida Republican.
I'm disgusted.

Mahoney = sleazebag.
Greer = I don't know, but this stunt is really stupid and doesn't impress me.
Voters = Disappointed. Why is this the best Florida has to offer?
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 01:53 PM
This is Great, Greer just did what he should be doing as chairman. This guy has made the RPOF a power house in Florida politics. Any negitive comments about Greer or the RPOF are comming from Dem's or Tim's girlfriends
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 01:57 PM
I love Greer, always one step ahead of the Dem's. Good move Chairman!!!

Does Greer really want to go there???

How is this considered on step ahead of the dems? Good waste of time RPOF, maybe this is why you are losing Florida....
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 02:03 PM
Good job Greer, we need to call out people who say are going to set a new moral standard and then have to pay off their girlfriends.
THE whole point is Mahoney said he would change the moral climate and he was going to show everybody what true family values were. If his family values are cheating or your wife and daughter then he's done a great job and should get a pat on the back.
My family value aren't the same as his.

2:03 we are losing because of Arlene is running McCain for Florida in the ground.
and thats the truth
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 02:06 PM
If the Nat GOP had Greer as the Party Chairman, maybe we republican's would not be getting ready to lose the election in Nov. The Guy know's what it takes to LEAD!!!!. Bye Bye Tim.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 02:08 PM
How Newt G. of him. This stunt is as dishonorable as Mahoney's infidelity. It Greer trying to pander to the national party?
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 02:08 PM
Im a Dem party leader in Florida, could we borrow Greer to get our State Party working again, we never even see our chairman at the meetings or events.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 02:12 PM
Thank goodness he wasn't caught at an airport restroom, park restroom, or emailing boys. Would Greer like to comment on that?
As John Stewart said, "This is OLD SCHOOL" sex scandal. Mahoney will be gone in less than 3 weeks, so Greer should go find some volunteers to pay to walk door to door in some other district, bc the Dems will pick up 3-4 other congressional seats in FLA this year.

I like the McCain strategy for Michingan - waste millions on a state you can't win, then back out of it and piss everyone off so you lose it by even more. Obama +10.5.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 02:22 PM
The McInsane strategy in Virginia and Florida is even better. Ignore reality that your opponent is targeting that state, rarely visit, then 3 weeks to election day, try to figure out a strategy by appealing to the plumber vote.
Virginia Obama +8.6, Florida Obama +4.8.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 02:24 PM
Another home run by RPOF and Chairman Greer, these people at the State Party know what their doing, to bad Arlene and the McCain campaign won't listen to them.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 02:25 PM
Greer: "I'll pay volunteers $20 per hours if you hold up a sign calling on Mahoney to resign, $10 if you call his office, $5 for each email, and $2 if you can yell out your car window while driving by."
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 02:26 PM
Pennsylvania Obama +13.6
Better get palin in there to get it down to 11.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 02:27 PM
The highest McLame gets in any of the battleground states to the right is 45.5. Not bad for a guy who's been running for 10 years.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 02:29 PM
Come on, folks, he cheated on his mistress! Surely you can't defend someone who cheats on his mistress!
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 03:19 PM
Mahoney has no defense, and of course should resign. I think the Dem Party has clearly demonstrated these past 48 hours they want rid of him and quickly!
HOWEVER.. Greer's stunt makes him and the RPOF, look childish and petty. This is not how the Repubs will (or want to) fire up the base. Most clear thinking and objective voters, while denouncing Mahoney, will, at the same time, think Greer overstepped the bounds of decency and professionalism. The FBI indicated they are looking into Mahoney and his actions; Greer needs to butt-out!
And, as another posted above, why is Greer wasting his time on this when the Repubs are losing Florida? This certainly isn't going to turn that around, and if anything, draws some of the attention away from Mahoney, and now Greer is the problem everyone is talking about. Waste of Time!
Mahoney's behaviors and Greer's stunt are the very things voters - Dems, Repubs, Independents and everything else - are turned off by.
BTW, as a Repub I agree Greer probably has a few skeletons in his closet.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 03:48 PM
3:19 is right! How can the Republicans defend someone who cheated on his disabled wife and then dumped her for a beer heiress???? The hypocrisy is unbelievable!
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 03:53 PM
1:57.... I am not a dem or a mahoney supporter. I think he's scum. Having said that, if you think that Greer has made the Republican party a powerhouse, you are either on his payroll or you're brand new to Florida politics.
Ever heard of Tom Slade? Look him up....he's the party chairman who led the RPOF to be the powerhouse that it is. Greer is only hurting our cause and helping ensure that we lose power in record time.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 03:58 PM
I agree with an earlier post, maybe in another blog - What is he eating or is he taking some sort of special vitamins? One wife/no mistresses tires me out.
Cheating on your mistress, that takes a real man. Not just some toe-tapper or wide stancer. For those of us who are about to vote, I salute you!

According to statistics, some of those people protesting have cheated, as well as some of those on this blog.
This is grandstanding. Wait til the investigation comes out so he can ignore it and insist he did nothing unethical.

Judge not, sayeth the Lord and John McCain.
Greer is going to be a busy man. Maybe he'll denounce McCain for his affairs and for McCain leaving his family the next time the straight talk express rolls through Florida.
Didn't McCain leave his wife for a str, uh, Cindy.

I don't know about skeletons, but I think we all know Greer has a certain Governor tucked away in the closet!!

This is absurd.
The Chairman should be out making the case for John McCain all over FL.
You know, like last weekend for example.... instead of going to Disney World (?) he should have been with Republican governor Bobby Jindal when he was in FL for a McCain event.
The Chairman should also be explaining to the voters of Florida why John McCain is the best candidate for our country and not use this man's moral failure as a photo op session.
Mahoney is already toast, this is a waste of time during the home stretch.
Rooney will win this seat readily.
Tim I hope you've learned a lesson. Being elected to public office doesn't allow you a blanket entitlement to be a complete jerk to your wife and use your employees as sexually indentured servants.
Serving in public office is an honor; you grossly abused the trust that the people of Fl placed in you.

Mahoney trails by 26 in GOP poll
By Aaron Blake
Posted: 10/17/08 09:10
A new Republican poll indicates Rep. Tim Mahoney (D-Fla.) is the most endangered incumbent in the country days after a news report showed he paid a former mistress hush money.
The poll, released Friday and conducted for Republican Tom Rooney’s campaign and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), shows a big shift in the race, which Mahoney had been leading. He is now behind Rooney, 55 percent to 29 percent, with 16 percent of voters undecided.
ABC News reported Monday that Mahoney paid former aide Patricia Allen more than $120,000 and arranged work at a consulting firm after she threatened to sue him. The poll was conducted Wednesday and Thursday.
Mahoney apologized for hurting his family but has said the issue is private and that he did nothing illegal. He has called for the House Ethics Committee to investigate, but voters will issue their own verdict in two and a half weeks.
Rooney released a poll in September showing Mahoney ahead, 48-41.
The latest poll was conducted by the Tarrance Group among 300 likely voters. It had a 5.8 percent margin of error.
Mahoney had a 28 percent favorable rating, compared to 53 percent unfavorable.
The district was already a top GOP target, but Mahoney was notching significant endorsements and appeared to be benefiting from a strong Democratic year. His problems have forced national Democrats to stop spending money on him.
He has not indicated that he will drop out of the race, but if he did, he would remain on the ballot, with local Democrats picking a replacement that would run using his name.
The same situation occurred in 2006, when former Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla.) exited the race too late to change the ballot following revelations about inappropriate conduct with House pages. Mahoney won that race narrowly, and many people attributed it to the ballot situation.
