Lawmakers urge Crist to suspend 'no match'
Five members of Congress wrote a letter to Gov. Charlie Crist today, calling on him to suspend enforcement of the "no match, no vote" law. Letter is here. Background on the controversy here.
"Last minute enforcement of this law right before the presidential election will stand to add to our abysmal history of protecting the voting rights of our citizens," reads the letter signed by Florida Reps. Corrine Brown, Kathy Castor, Alcee Hastings, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Robert Wexler.

Wexler is just afraid he won't be able to vote since he lives in MD.

Crist should suspend this law. This will be an albatross around his re-election campaign neck, especially if there are voting issues in florida and we know the probability of that.

You should have ID to prove you are who you say you are. With ACRORN being found to be turning in fake voter registration applications around the country, voter fraud is a serious issue.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!
It's the law!! You need identification or you get provisional ballot. You can always come back the next day to verify.

Florida residents support I.D. to vote by a big majority.

The letter from the congressmen doesn't count. Debbie Wasserman Schultz' signature doesn't match the typed name Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. Debbie doesn't use hyphen.
Perfect example of how some voter's votes wont't be allowed because of no match rule in Florida.

ACORN is accused of submitting multiple voter registrations with false and duplicate names.

Hey 5:16,
This isn't about showing a valid ID, it's about matching your information with a database. Under No Match, No Vote, you can register to vote, show up on election day with irrefutable proof of your identity, such as a U.S. Passport or military I.D. and if your registration form didn't match exactly with a state or federal database, then you are forced to jump through hoops to have your vote count - EVEN IF YOU PRESENT A VALID PHOTO ID!
As one attorney put it:
"That's a problem, because matches fail all the time for reasons that have nothing to do with voters being who they say they are, like typographical errors made when applications are processed, or women registering in their married names when the Social Security database lists their maiden names. The Social Security Administration says that matching voter data with its database fails 46.2 percent of the time — about the same odds as flipping a coin."
You can click on my name to sign a petition urging the Governor to suspend this ill-conceived law still in litigation.

I am voting for the first person running that speaks publicly that you and I are getting ripped off at the gas pumps right now. Wholesale gasoline has to be under $2.75 per gallon in the Tampa area by now and we are still paying $3.50 per gallon. Where is Crist? Where is Nelson? Where is Fasano? Where is Nehr?

If you can't comply with such a simple law, why should your vote count anyway?

It's 2008 - it's time Democracy comes to Florida. Suspend the policy. Voter fraud is EXTREMELY LOW - while disenfranchisement is at an all time high.

Why do I have such a hate for DWS? I am a Democrat but I can't stand her!

Am I the only responsible person who gets a new license when I move or changed it when I got married?
I would think you have something to hide if you don't want your address to reflect where you really reside.
I bet if this law was to track down dead beat dads the liberals would be all over it.

I have met her and she isn't very approachable or kind. I never trust anyone who doesn't show enough respect to look at you while you speak.

You mean like McCain not looking at Obama in the debates.

In 1974 my purse was stolen and I sent off to DC for a new Social Security card.
Some clerk entered my birth date incorrectly. I didn't know it until I applied for my retirement check a couple of years ago and my DATA DID NOT MATCH.
Not my fault. Not my error. Yet I had to pay to prove I really am me and know what day I was born. My certified copy of my birth certificate took several weeks to obtain by mail from my birth state.
It came with the right date --- but misspelled by mom's maiden name.
A typo by a government employee should NOT be able to STEAL YOUR VOTE.

Could it be because 1974 sucked? Now you don't have to send anything to DC for a SS card, there are regional offices everywhere for that and you can get a new SS card in 5-7 working days. That's how long it took me to get a new one.
Why do you believe that it will be an overwhelming number of democrats with inconsistent id's and voter registration? Why do people believe that democrats are not capable of having the correct information needed to cast votes? I am a democrat and I take offense that people think I am so stupid that I can't protect my own darn rights! I can defend myself by following the rules and the laws and educating myself and those I know.

If someone has a problem showing id to vote they must be a criminal. Lets make sure people can read ans write to vote the 1800's are long gone.
Posted by: | October 08, 2008 at 08:41 AM
I dont agree with my fellow democrats on this one. What is the problem with having an id that is correct? I have lived in other countries and it is criminal to live in one location and not have it on your id.

I have voted twice for president in two counties already - absentee and early...
and plan to vote in a third based on my current address - at my proper polling place...
Having moved around a lot sure has its benefits!
What is the problem?
