Martinez to pay FEC fine

U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., has agreed to pay $110,500 for violating federal campaign finance laws governing contribution limits and reporting requirements from his 2004 campaign, Federal Elections Commission records show.

In an FEC agreement struck Oct. 10, Martinez’s campaign agreed to the improprieties and the fines and promised to revamp the system it uses to track of donations.

The FEC, meanwhile, said it didn’t believe Martinez personally violated the Federal Election Campaign Act, and that it has “made no findings that the violations described in this Conciliation Agreement were knowing and willful.”

The cost to Martinez’s campaign includes a fine of $99,000, which the FEC was kept relatively low thanks to the campaign’s cooperation during the investigation, and $11,500 in donations that exceeded the $2,000 limit for cash contributions, but which could not be properly returned or rolled over to another campaign account.

I can't wait to see how much Obammy violated the Federal Campaign Finance Act.

There is a jail cell for all these crooks.

WHAT!… a corrupt republican tool?

Why; I never heard of such a thing!

yes and Stevens going to see one!

wow THAT WAS JUSTICE, not only was Ted stevens corrupt but he was a big DI(K TOO!!!!

OMG corrupt politicians!

The horror!

Can't wait to vote this bozo out.

who gets the money?

Just another reason why this is Mels last stint as a Florida Senator. The guy is USELESS!!

2004 campaign right?

What a SCUM!

This should be referred the Justice Department.

When is somebody going to investigate the $400,000 salary/gift he received from Akerman Senterfit in 2004.

He did no work for this firm, but took their money anyway. For what? He was running for office all year, not working. Will the press ever ask him about this?

Does Akerman lobby him now?

Somebody should definitely look into the money he got from Akerman. That's much worse than Ted Stevens getting a vibrating chair.

Martinez is definitely corrupt. After katrina hit, he held a meeting with lobbyists, to help steer as much money to their clients as possible. Nice payback, Mel.

Hopefully, we can get rid of the Diaz Ballarts, and Martinez can join them two years and they can start their own firm, and not steal anymore from Akerman and their employees who do work for a living.

Since Martinez only won by less than 1%, while Bush won by 5%, someone needs to start their campaign right away, and get rid of this slimeball.

He needed coattails to win before, plus illegal donations. He can't win without cheating, and he got lucky even with illegal funds.

he should be investigated for the Akerman $400,000 giveaway in 2004. The statute of limitations has not run on that one.

Watch out for those glass houses.

Another corrupt Republican!!OMG It seems to me that when you think G.O.P. you think corrupt!!! Throw them out from the White House to the Courthouse!!!

Martinez is toast.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to

say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
