Say it ain't so, Sarah. She's a Sox fan now?
"How about those Tampa Bay Rays?" Gov. Sarah Palin shouted in Jacksonville last week.
"You know what that tells me, it tells me that the people in this area know a little something about turning an underdog into a victor," she said. "And we're counting on you to help us do that Nov. 4." Palin, who said essentially the same thing in Clearwater, might as well have pulled on a Rays jersey and sprayed the crowd with champagne and beer.
But yesterday in Salem, N.H., John McCain's running mate was saying something remarkably similar about the other guys. “We’re just 20 days out from the election and it’s gonna come right down to the wire, and we’re counting on you because Red Sox fans know how to turn an underdog into a victor, and that’s exactly what you can help us do on Nov. 4!"
So we're not really sure who Palin will be rooting for in tonight's ALCS Game 5.
Democrats quickly pointed out the dual loyalty. "Apparently this team of mavericks thinks straight talk means saying one thing to Rays fans and another to Red Sox fans," said DNC spokesman Damien LaVera.
*
We can't wait to see what Barack Obama will do. With the Rays blasting by the Chicago White Sox, Obama has thrown his allegiance to the Philadelphia Phillies. A likely World Series match-up: Rays vs. Phillies.

well, she read it in the two out of virtually millions and millions of newsapers she reads daily!!!!
what a freakin', dumb, lying, twit!!!!
LOOK AT the jerkwad!!
THIS is WNHAT johnnie mcAiNUS thinks of us and the U.S.A.....
putting this lying, moose-dung encrusted trailer trash second in line for the presidency!!
a DISGRACEFUL INSULT to ALL of us!!!!

If it makes any difference, John McCain supports the Wasington Senators over the Brooklyn Dodgers. Like his campaign, he hopes they can come back from the dead.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Wow...that's a stretch Alex. Nothing in that statement says she is a Sox fan. Didn't the Sox come back from 3-0 in 2004 to the Yankees? They WERE an underdog and won.
McCain Palin are underdogs NOW and they will win.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 12:54 PM
Did anyone else read that as sort of an insult to the Red Sox fans?
Technically, by them losing to the Rays, they WILL be turning an underdog into a victor.

Hehe, there's no baseball in Alaska. She probably doesn't even know how the game is played.

I don't want her rooting for our Rays anyway. She is pathetic, a new low from the GOP.
Posted by: kris | October 16, 2008 at 01:06 PM
So, she insulted Florida and New England, all in the same sentence...brilliant!!!

Whatever side Sarah Palin is on, I hope I'm on the other side, especially when it comes to intelligence.
Posted by: Dave | October 16, 2008 at 01:19 PM
Good grief, some people will complain about anything, she was making a point about underdogs, not saying who she was rooting for. If anyone complains about lame blogs, this one is it.
This does not compare to Obama/Biden's comments on clean coal in Pennsylvania compared to comments made elsewhere. That is a real issue - where do they stand for or against clean coal - anyone?
Posted by: Gator(R) | October 16, 2008 at 01:22 PM
I'll try again.
Some people will complain about anything - lame blog. She never said she was rooting for either team, just making a point on underdog status.
This is not an issue, explain Obama/Biden position on clean coal - apparently for in Pennsylvania, against everywhere there is no coal. This is an issue, whether you are for or against.
Dave - No baseball in Alaska??? I know where that comment puts you regarding intelligence. If you are on the other side from Sarah Palin in this regard, she is brighter than I thought.
Posted by: Gator(R) | October 16, 2008 at 01:28 PM
It is too cold to play baseball in Alaska unless you count "Snow Softball" as real baseball.
Everything about Ms. Palin is a total fraud.
Posted by: Ray | October 16, 2008 at 01:33 PM
Let me help you Gator(R)
Because this is a great blog, contributors other than wingnut Republicans probably don't want to have a conversation with a deluded McCain supporter who starts off by calling them lame. Kind of like your boy, McInsane, if you can't get past Ayers and Rezko and other negative topics, there's no point to talking about the issues.

Gato(Retard) is such a douche
she is an idiot -- admit it.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 01:39 PM
Even Republicans know she's a moron. They just are scared to say it out loud because they're afraid someone might hear them.
Posted by: Dave | October 16, 2008 at 01:51 PM
1:38 Didn't help, I haven't a clue what you are yammering about.
1:33 There is a season known as summer, and guess what, Alaska has a summer as well. Probably a good time to play baseball, dogsled racing is probably pretty slow at that time, particularly near the coast.
1:39 Thanks for the contribution.

shes akin to a talking doll with limited responses. stop hawking up your bullet points and say something legitimate.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 02:19 PM
Much like the Bridge to Nowhere, she was for the Rays before she was against them.

The GOP: Party to Nowhere.
Posted by: Bob H | October 16, 2008 at 02:31 PM
Obama will need to check with Reverend Wright before he decides who he will root for. Heck, Biden still thinks they are the Devil Rays. Wow, the life of a career politician.
Posted by: Tim | October 16, 2008 at 02:48 PM
Wow ... why so mean and hateful? You all need to take a deep breath and be kinder. I don't understand all this hatred for Palin. I don't want Obama for President, but I don't call him nasty names. We all have a right to disagree with each candidate without such hateful name calling. Like Gator said, she was just making a point on underdog status ... that's all, calm down.

The thoughtful blogging takes place elsewhere. This is what we do here - insult each other and pat ourselves on the back for showing them up but good.

McCain's negative campaign is paying off! He's hardly lost any ground at all in the polls today! At this rate, in three weeks, he'll hardly be any more behind than he is right now!

Don't go hang out with the egg heads. This blog is more fun. We could all lighten up a little sometimes, though. We need a non-partisan joke of the day.
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 04:45 PM
4:45 How about a bi-partisan joke?
Obama walks into McCain’s pet store to pick up some crickets for his iguana. A parrot says, “Hey, Obama. You’re ugly and your wife dresses you funny.”
Obama ignores the bird and leaves with his crickets, but after the bird does this the next three times he goes to the store, he complains to McCain, who says he’ll take care of it.
McCain goes to the bird and says, “My friend, you are disrespecting a United States Senator, and if you want to keep any of those beautiful feathers on your body, you will never again tell Senator Obama that he is ugly and his wife dresses him funny.”
When Obama next walked into the pet store, the parrot says, “Hey, Obama.”
Obama glares at the bird and says with great irritation, “What?”
The bird says, “You know what.”

Why won't she say devil?
Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 05:17 PM
5:17 Didn't they were the 'Rays', or is your question totally unrelated to the blog?
I only follow the Alaska Summer Baseball League so I may be wrong.

Posted by: | October 16, 2008 at 06:12 PM
Considering the unrest in the country and Obama's spending on ads, he should be overwhelmingly ahead right now. It shouldn't be close. Why is it?
Because you doubt.
Obama's numbers and nuances don't add up. You doubt he's sincere about change you can believe in. You doubt he really reaches across party lines to do the work of the people.
You doubt him because he has ties to terrorists, felons, and racists.
You doubt him because he votes present or outright shows disdain for newborn babies under the guise of women's health.
You doubt him because no friends from high school and college have come out to support him.
You doubt Obama and THAT his why McCain will win.
Posted by: You Doubt Obama | October 16, 2008 at 06:15 PM
Just shows how ignorant she really is...a smart woman/man/person/rock would root OUTRIGHT for the Rays (Florida being up for grabs and all) and ignor the Sox (Mass. is typically Democrat to the core).
Not to mention the flip-flopping and "Hoohray for the ________ (fill-in-the-blank-local-team)" mentallity - at least mix up the words hunnybuns.
Posted by: john | October 16, 2008 at 07:40 PM
7:40 - then you would call her a hypocrite, either way she loses.
Actually, she is doing no worse than 99% or more of us in exactly the same position, and better than almost that many would. She hasn't been as bad as initially thought, nor as good as her first speach implied.
McCain probably would have lost no matter who he picked, no conservative woman would have ultimately picked up many of Clinton's votes, she would still have been crucified if very conservative, which McCain needed. I liked Condoleeza Rice myself. I figured she might be a bad pick because she would link him with the Bush administration, but that has happened anyway. Maybe in hindsight should have given her a shot. I think she's great.
