Sink running for governor? | Main | Senate top jobs assigned »

Another competitor for Greer

Jim Greer says he's running for re-election as state Republican Party chairman. But he has also been exploring the contours of a run for head of the Republican National Committee. And just as competition is lining up for the state gig, the field is growing nationally.

Chairman_headshot The Buzz is that today or tomorrow in Florida, Michael Steele (left) will announce he is running for RNC chairman. Steele, the former lieutenant governor of Maryland, is in Palm Beach for a post-election meeting of GOPAC. Steele is chairman of the group, which includes former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio.

Current RNC Chairman Mike Duncan has said he wants to stay, but the pressure is on to find a new direction, a new face.

Michael Steele - another holy roller nutjob. Go ahead, repiggies, keep putting the Calvinist crazies at the head of the line. Watch intelligent voters run for the nearest exits.

Greer has to get past Florida and it's not looking in his favor. I hear a "family commitment" press conference is coming soon.

Say what you will(and Im sure you will)about Greer, but he would make a Great RNC Chairman. He Gets It, and is a real Leader and would also be good with the media and fundraiseing. Plus all this talk about Florida and Greer as RNC Chairman is good for the State Party and Governor Crist.

Everybody who has a brain knows Chairman Greer will have a big win in Jan. This guy Miller has NO chance, and if he keeps up his BS some in the party are already telling Mr Greer to remove him after the re-elect. Chairman Greer has been a very good leader and the state party will vote to re-elect him.

12:26.. is that you Charlie? or is it Jim again?

Charlie uses the phrase "gets it" all the time.

Micheal Steele is TEN times better than Greer. Greer is a joke and mocked more openly by conservatives every day.

Steele is just what the RNC needs.

Jim Greer should run for Dig Catcher in Oviedo. If he plays his cards right, incming Chairman Miller might support him for that.

The RNC needs a dynamic leader - GO STEELE!

12:26 - you almost had me going. But capping the talking points was a dead giveaway.

12:42 - instead of deriding those who have legitimate concerns, how 'bout listening. Contrary to your deluded mindset, the other side might have something to offer. If you were smart, and you're not, you'd take the ideas, make them your own, and take credit for them.

Greer won by 12 votes last time and that was with the governor backing him and present.

Greer now has a Florida loss and 2 congressional seats lost, and marginal losses of winneable seats in the House.

This combined with his open contempt for the people who elect him and the lack of responsiveness from his staff shows he's out of touch with the most basic aspects of running the party.

Crist, find someone we all can live with.

The state party needs a change for sure. But will CHarlie man up to it and get Greer out?

There is no comparison btwn Steele and Greer. Steel is a star and is not a bible thumper. Forget it Greer, if Steele goes after the job, you can kiss your hopes good bye

The RNC can't have 2 members from the same state. Sharon Day is running for Secretary, Greer cannot run for Chairman.

RNC chair will go to NUSSLE or GINGRICH. Someone with name ID and with some power. Get real people

How nice to see the Republican Party on its way to becoming a regional power. This non-Republican is happy that the national appeal is beyond their job description now.

Sharon Day? Are you kidding, she is disliked by the RPOF staff and most of the State committee thinks she a loud mouth who complains about everything has no chance, plus her dis-loyalty is known far and wide. Greer had a chance to take her out for re-elect this past year but didn't have the balls and told people No, so Florida is stuck with her but no way she win's the RNC job.

The way it sounds most of the state committee dislikes the RPOF staff.

Michael Steele is not running a real campaign. It is a phantom effort, a public relations campaign designed to make us think that he is running for RNC Chair. I've sent my staff out to look for him, and there is no evidence that he is running for Chair. Just wait, he is not going to seriously campaign for the job, he is just trying to make us divert our resources.

Our time-tested, battle-worn system for turning out the votes will ensure that I have the votes I need to be the RNC chairman. Just you wait and see.

2:01 get real. Who cares who RPOF staff likes? What counts is who RPOF voting members like. And for the job of Secretary of RPOF, what counts is who the voting members of the RNC like.

And for your further education Sharon Day is widely respected in the non-Greer & Crist world (America) for her hard work in Florida. If she wants the job, she is a shoo-in.

I hope Greer puts into his race for Chairman of RPOF or, for that matter, RNC the same energy, dedication and enthusiasm he put into the McCain campaign. I know he will get that kind of effort from activists the length of the state.

3:10 - ROFL!!!!

3:08 - really agree. Sharon Day was very communicative for McCain/Palin - that was tons more than I can say for the RPOF lead by Greer. She's more of a leader and liked by those who see through the CC and JG self serving crap.

You guys are right Jim has to win in Florida first. Eric Miller has great ideas and a platform that is to be commended. Here is a link to his site. http://ericmiller08.com He is twice the man Greer is and I think will make great chair. I am looking forward to voting for him in January.

Eric = Ron Paul. Realistically whoever replaces Greer needs to be liked by both the state committee members and the gov's office.

Anyone who has been attending state party meetings knows that Greer is well liked and respected among the members, he will win re-election and if he runs for RNC chair will help lead the national change we need. Greer is a real leader and will be part of the rise of the party nationally

Michael Steele is awesome; wish him the best as the new Chair!

Say what you will about Sharon Day. Can she be tough, yes. Does she say what's on her mind, oh yea. But, don't ever question her loyalty. She lives and dies the Republican Party, and doesn't do ANY of her work for credit or to fill her coffers. She believes that Republicans and the Republican philosophy serves this country. Last time I checked, whether it is business, politicial, or any organization we do better when we tell the truth. Sycophants do great things for themselves but serve no greater good. Let's clean out the sycophants and work with people that care about our Party. Support Sharon Day and whatever is in the best interest of our Party let's support that!

5:25 PM - realistically, THIS Governor is toast and whoever gets elected needs to be able to work with a new Republican nominee for Governor to get HIM elected.

11:25 only if you work for Greer. Otherwise, if you are a member of the Committee, you know Greer is a lazy, self-serving spendthrift who has turned RPOF from a political entity into a PR firm with the sole goal of pushing Charlie. And we are disgusted!

Sharon Day for Secretary ... eventually, RNC Chair!!

She works hard, spends tons of money and unlike certain self-serving Party Chairmen and Governors of dubious sexuality, she doesn't do it for personal gain.
