Protesters at Crist's wedding?

Even by our standards, this is pretty tacky: GaySoFla.com reports a gay rights group called Impact Florida is planning to protest the Dec. 12 wedding of Charlie Crist and Carole Rome:

“Our objective will be to celebrate the Governor’s fundamental right to marry,” says Impact Florida spokesperson Lorna Bracewell, in an exclusive interview with GaySoFla.com. “The demonstration will be peaceful and respectful,” the singer/songwriter and Tampa Bay native assures the online LGBT magazine. Bracewell believes that the Governor’s wedding provides a unique opportunity to shine a light on the injustice and unfairness of Amendment 2. “Governor Crist, an outspoken proponent of Amendment 2, is getting married. He is exercising the same fundamental right millions of Floridians are now denied because of the passage of Amendment 2,” Bracewell observes.

It's worth noting that Florida law banned same-sex marriage before Amendment 2 passed.

The religious right claims that Amendment 2 is about protecting the sanctity of marriage. Members of the Gay Community have an acute understanding that Amendment 2 was an enshrinement of discrimination in the constitution and removes any protections we have in regards to Domestic Partnership benefits, End of life decision making for our significant other, etc.

If you conservative religious groups want to use the Bible to support your argument, consider this: Perhaps your church members should be protesting the wedding of two divorced individuals to eacch other-Crist & Rome. Jesus never mentions homosexuality in the new testament, but he sure had a few strong words to say about divorce. Homosexuals could never do as much damage to the sanctity of marriage than straight folks already have.

And how can you claim to follow doctrine that teaches love your neighbor as yourself and Love one another and he that loveth not one another loveth not God because God is love...and yet you spew such hate for gays and you want to take away basic civil liberties which you enjoy?

Your hypocrisy reeks in the nostrils of the Almighty!

Hey, Impact Florida...good luck with your event. If I can't be there in the flesh, I'll definately be there in spirit!

right on, David! Couldn't agree more.

BTW, Crist and Rome met while she was still married and LIVING with her ex, and left her ex for Charlie - let's preach sanctity, shall we?

i will be attending the demonstration and doing some work organizing it as well. sometimes you have to do what it takes to get people to see the point. when they held sit-ins who said how dare they? they are interrupting they should accept that tings are how they are and they wont be served at the counter? you may not agree with what we are doin but we have played nice lil homos for how long now? it will still be a peaceful event. just no more miss nice gay...

Let's not pretend that this "wedding" is anything approaching a real wedding. It's a political marriage of convenience and a slap in the face to Floridians and everyone who stands for civil rights.

Charlie Crist is making a mockery of marriage.

..........as Adam Smith fades further into irrelevance. But he gets to hang out with Al Ruechel, so he's still got that cool thing going on.
