Sink looks to Florida's future, and hers

Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, Florida's only Democratic elected executive officer, discussed the state of Florida's economy in a breakfast with reporters from the St. Petersburg Times and The Miami Herald. The former bank executive has begun calling banks on behalf of the Florida Home Builders Association, which has pleaded for a "time out" from banks calling in builders' construction loans.

The cratering of the construction and credit markets is all the more reason why Florida must continue to diversify its economic base, she said, and end its reliance on real estate. She cited the wildly overbuilt Fort Myers, now one of the foreclosure capitals of the world. "There's nothing else there, except for Chico's," she said.

On the subject of politics, Sink promised a decision soon on her political future which could include running for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Mel Martinez in 2010, running for governor, or staying put, and perhaps preparing for a run for governor in 2014 when the office will be open.

"I'm going to make up my mind very soon," Sink said. "It's all about what's best for me, and what's best for the state."

You go for it Alex. We need some Democrats in office to make sensible decisions for Florida; no more of these GOP sellouts to developers and big business that hurt our economy. We need environmental protection to save what wild areas and beaches we have, to continue to attract tax paying visitors to our state. Please please run Alex for Senate or for Governor!

I'm excited about that thought of Sink running for Governor. She can beat Charlie.

Ho Hum. Not excited.

The Republican Party needs Martinez for two reasons (his ethnicity & to keep the Dems from getting 60 seats) so even the conservatives will unite behind him. But Crist has fractured the Republican Party and the conservatives will stay home (just like they did to McCain. Sink beats Crist!.....but loses to Martinez.

How much did SBA retirement fund loose today>

I think I'll text a page. Now that's exciting!

10:58 Why, is the Great Bush Depression of 2008 deepening?

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

10:58 post number one is right

Pardon me, I meant to say the Bush-Pelosi Depression of 2008. They'll both be gone soon.

So it will be Alex Sink vs. Marco Rubio in the 2010 race for Gov. ?

Pardon me, I meant to say the Reagan-Bush Calamity of 1981 - 2008. They'll both be gone soon, I hope, but we'll be paying for their failed policies for decades to come.

Ah, yes, we'll be paying, and paying, and paying, now that we have tax and spend *******s in both the whitehouse and congress. They'll say it's to help the low and middle class, but they know in their cynical hearts it's just to line their own greedy pockets.

11:37 no not Speaker Rubio unfortunately he can't beat Charlie

Ah, yes, I can't help but be cynical; after supporting so many conservatives who all proved to be corporate sellouts. I thought under Bush we were going to fix it so our nation could never return to our democratic principles. I can't believe the voters wised up in time to stop us! Time to go - gotta invent more lies and spin - it's gonna take decades to hang this one on the Democrats so we can even think about lining our big greedy pockets again.

And the liberals too. Nothing but corporate sellouts. Wolves in sheep's clothing, Leading their blind followers to starvation and doom with promises of pie in the sky, all the while knowing that they'd soon be shipping those followers' jobs out of the country with Clintonian efficiency via NAFTA - lining their greedy pockets while gleefully blaming the conservatives through lies and spin.

But even thought we like Alex, we know she's up against some stiff competition, especially considering she doesn't have much of a track record.

1:28 -- Huh? I think her lifetime of business experience and her work as CFO makes her more qualified to lead us in bad economic times than d0-nothing Charlie.

Also -- if she's not so hot then why does Charlie keep following her? Forclosure freeze, early voting, and soon the special session.

And you know who's even worse than the Republicans? The Libertarians. It's a fact that they are entirely a political tool of the Corporate world. They couldn't survive for a second on popular support alone. Their only source of life blood is Big Business teat which keeps nursing them as long as they bleat about de-regulation, tax reform, and free markets. The notion that they somehow care about personal liberty is just a sham, something to hide their coporatism behind.

Crist will lose to almost any conservative in the Republican primary because the conservative wing of the party is so fed up with him.

Word in DC is that a lot of ex-Gallagher campaign people and the Florida Christian Coalition lobbied the national Republican Party against Crist as VP(it obviously worked). Now they are the same ones lining up potential challengers to him.

Yes, in maybe 10 years or so, Alex will be a better candidate for a higher office. Just needs a bit of experience.

But worst of all are the democrats. Used to be they were the party of the "little guy". HA! Now the party has been bought out. Taken over. It's almost identical to its brothers Republican and Libertarian. The only difference is the shrillness of its blather.

i really dont listen to any of the right wing bloggers on this blog, especially Terminator. all of you for so long were saying Obama could not win and he won in a landside. i was reading past blogs and so many of you were so wrong, especially Terminator as he is never right

I guess that makes me a communist. Glad we sorted that out!

Alex will make her decision and whatever it is she will be ready to run and win. My personal opinion is I would like to see become our first female Governor.

Go Alex mow em down!!!!

Everyone needs to liquidate their holdings (whatever is left) and send the proceeds to DC. They will know how to best spend it.

Then go to the local Govt office and sign of for all the largess.

I suggest you arrive early since record crowds are expected.

$1 Trillion Deficits are now OK

The Bush Tax cuts will stay in place

The troops will remain in Iraq for as long as needed

The "rich" will have no further taxes to pay

Obama will not bring change to DC, he just hired all the same rip off artists and changed their seat assignment

Once the honeymoon is over, foreign leaders will hate us again for our fiscal policy

We will free the dirtbag terrorists in Cuba, only to have them attack us again

Osama will remain on the loose

There will be not bi-partisan anything

Reid and Pelosi will make millions more on insider deals without penalty

What am I missing?

How is this for a campaign slogan:

Elect Alex so we can Sink Further into Depression
