Jeb to the rescue of GOP
He's tanned, rested and ready. But two years out of the Governor's Mansion, can Jeb Bush, Florida's my-way-or-the-highway ex-CEO, really see himself in the "world's greatest deliberative body," plodding through slow-going compromises with 99 other U.S. senators?
"It was a shocker to me,'' said former state Republican chairman Tom Slade. "He has always been incredibly clear about his negative feelings about being in the United States Senate. But make no mistake, he is the 800-pound gorilla in Florida."
For all of Bush's derision of Washington politics over the years, longtime friends say he is seriously looking at running because of the times and the mess his party is in. Bush, 55, sees a directionless Republican Party struggling for a consistent message and a set of core beliefs. No one has ever questioned Bush's core, conservative principles.
Story here.

UMMMM -- what will the Lehman Brother hearings do to his chances when they put him infront of congress and ask about the failed private equities he was the adviser to. LOL! what an idiot this guy is.

Jeb is the right political spirit that is needed in the state party and in the nation at this time. His strong Republican principles and beliefs will jolt the party more to the right helping the party here at home. When seated in the US Senate, he will be the Republican conscience that has been needed there for the past four years. Problem! The problem is that if Martinez would step down, then Crist will more than likely appoint himself to the vacated Senate seat. Crist never misses the chance to help himself climb his political ladder.

Maybe he thinks if he jumps right in, people will ignore the way the Bush regime has ruined our state and our nation. Nothing could be more wrong. Our economy is in the toilet. Millions of middle class families are now poor, many seniors are without retirement or health care; all thanks to the Bush family greed. And he thinks he can just come riding out to the defense of the same old failed polices that caused this mess? Could he possibly be more arrogant or out of touch? I guess it runs in the family.

Where did the Obama blogs go?
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 08:27 AM
Did Benedict Arnold have a brother? When he turned traitor, I don't remember his brother jumping in to take his place. Likewise, there are trillions of reasons why we should never trust another Bush.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 08:32 AM
Speaking of Fannie and Freddie, you know the Democrats little piggy bank that sent our financial markets into a tailspin...they will now offer low interest loans 4.5% or so..and the TREASURY will buy the paper.
Hummm, this sounds like a good idea. What do I need to do to qualify for one of these loans?
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 08:32 AM
Warning Jeb your evil twin in the White House still has a month and a half left in his reign. Pleanty of time to do untold further damage to our nation. Even now he's signing laws to trash our environment and funnel paybacks to his Big Business donors and cronies. By January 20th, the Bush name may be synonymous with Satan.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 08:40 AM
Speaking of obtuse, when will the Bush apologists quit trying to defend the failed conservative agenda and just admit that deregulation and tax breaks for the rich have ruined our economy?
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 08:42 AM
GO Jeb! Now we can finally finish off the state of Florida. Let Jeb take control and we can have his faith based school systems. More tax breaks for the wealthy and business. More homeless, less jobs, higher taxes. Maybe he can eliminate all the evil things like gambling and force his "family values" on all of us who are too dumb to think for ourselves. He ran the state into the ground. Just look around and see what he did. He'll be just like his brother George. But wait until and if he became president. If you think George ran the country into the ground you haven't seen what Jeb can do. Haven't we all had enough of the Republican party. The party of the rich, the dumb and the religious wackos.

842 open your eyes you dope, our economy is in the tank thanks to fannie and freddie. Explain to me how the Conservative Agenda is responsible for Fannie and Freddie.
Keep your head in the sand and wait for your saviour to fix the world for you.

Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 09:07 AM
8:46, Great News says:
"More tax breaks for the wealthy and business. More homeless, less jobs, higher taxes"
Just wondering, is it tax breaks or higher taxes?
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 09:08 AM
The Republican Party is:
The party of the rich, the dumb and the religious wackos.
Then the Democrats are:
The party of the poor, the smart and non-religious wackos.
So you are saying that the rich are dumb and the poor are smart? Yeah right, look at all the homeless MBA's.

Would you care to actually list what speicifc policies the Bushes specifically supported that caused all of the maladies you mention - or are you here to just continue your parroted drivel of weak talking points?
Posted by: Omega83 | December 04, 2008 at 09:28 AM
8:54 etc. Put down the Kool-Aid you obtuse Norquista and own up to your masters' responsibility. Our economy is in the toilet thanks to 30 years of failed conservative policy. Reagan created an illusion of prosperity by borrowing against our future; now the chickens are coming home to roost. Another wingnut like Jeb is certainly not going to be our savior.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 09:29 AM
9:28 No need to be specific, really. Who's been in charge more or less for the last 30 years. Conservatives. In general they've supported the deregualtion of their big business cronies which pollutes our environment, causes global warming, and has resulted in the financial meltdown of 2008. They lied about Iraq and are drowning us in a quagmire of defense spending to benefit their big Oil and Defense cronies. Tax "reform" aka huge reduction in taxes for the rich in combination with reckless spending has indebted our grandchildren and rendered government nearly powerless to fix the problems. End result - poor and middle class, children, seniors are hurting and a massive redistribution of wealth upward and a government to cash strapped and crippled to help. All according to plan, I'd say. And you're trying to defend the Bush regime? Get off your high horse and grow up, Omega.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 09:43 AM
There is absolutely nothing that Jeb could do for Florida as a junior Senator from the minority party. Now, ask yourself what he will do for himself. That is his motivation.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 09:47 AM
I thought Congress spent money. they've had ample opportunity to cut spending to match tax cuts.
Let's not forget Reagan gave us the largest peace-time economic expansion.

Yes 9:29 and all of a sudden, when Democrats gain control, deficit spending is OK. Recent reports expect a $1 TRILLION dollar deficit JUST IN 2009. Add the other $7 TRILLION in loans and bailouts.
Now what was is you were saying about "Reagan created an illusion of prosperity by borrowing against our future"
What is wrong, the government checks have run out and you have nothing to do today?
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 09:52 AM
The liberal dolts on this blog do not care find out what is wrong with our economic policy. Ignorance is bliss.
Just read what they say: Global warming, Big Oil, Defense Cronies...evil this, evil that...
Its OK now, your boy is in charge. You can sleep peacefully knowing that Daddy Barrack is at the helm.

Oh, great...more flag burning, anti-abortion rhetoric and demonizing of gays. Is there anything practical that the repiggies can offer these days? They don't seem to give a damn about economic oversight and fiscal responsibility.
All we get from them is the same old fascist morality police crap.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 09:59 AM
We will stay in Iraq, not surrender as Obama promised. What about the $12 Billion a Month wasted there? Its OK now.
He will not raise taxes on Cap Gains or the top rates. What about his promise to spread the wealth around?
He will not cut wasteful spending that is so entrenched in our system.
He will not grow the economy "from the bottom up". He knows that is impossible.
You voted for change? The Socialist States of America is coming. And with his cuts in military programs (all high-tech, high-wage jobs) we will be kicked down a few notches where we belong.
Does anyone know how to speak Arabic? You better learn fast..

Can Florida ever do anything right? Is it really necessary to stick another member of that over-privileged, incompetent Bush clan into high office?
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 10:04 AM
9:57, I wouldn't crow about the Republicans, dumb-dumb.
Look at the mess we are in, thanks to lemming-like nitwits like you. Obama hasn't even been sworn in yet. Look at the mess your boy Bush has created these past eight years. Go stand in the corner and apologize when you're ready, you idiot.

Who cares about flag burning? Gays? Abortion?
Go ahead and kill all the babies you want...just not on my dime.
You want to be a homosexual? Great have fun...just do not ask me to like it.
Burn a flag? Go ahead and hate your country. Have no respect for those that have defended it with their life. Just don't do it on my block, it will not be good for your health.
Get out of my pocket. You want to fund all your great ideas like CHANGING THE TEMPERATURE OF THE EARTH; do it on your dime.

How's that?

10:35 Hey, the Dems aren't repsonsible for all that defecit spending under Bush and the Republican Congress nor for the lies that got us into the 3 trillion dollar Exxon-Mobil war in Iraq. I think we should jack the tax rate up to 70-80% for the rich and get back some of the money they stole. Likewise a huge windfall profit tax on the Oil companies. Probably just a drop in the bucket after the Bush-McCain bailout of 2008, but what else can we do after conservative deregulation caused this meltdown of our financial system? Nationalize banking?

We have the Bush economy that is a total failure which will be with us for a long time to come, it seems.
So, do we really need Jeb Bush to remind us of how miserable the Bush family has left the middle class of American?!?!
Posted by: The Bush Economy Failure | December 04, 2008 at 11:19 AM
What conservative deregulation? You people all cry about republicans "generally" favoring deregulation.
Do me a favor look up whose administration deregulated the airlines and telecom companies. Then check on the piece of legislation that you morons claim caused our current financial morass. When did it pass? Which President signed it into law? What was the final vote in the Senate. Since everyone is out of work and the economy is so bad (as you claim) you should have time to do some of this research and inform yourselves for once.
I'll post the answers toward the end of the day for those of you who would rather retrieve your information from the huffington post and daily kos.
And just think about this. I'm a Republican and do believe the administration could have been more vigilant in enforcing the financial regulatuions we have in place but no one forced Americans to max out their credit cards. No one forced you to pay too much for a house and then borrow 100% of the value. No one forced the American consumer to save negative 2% of everything they earn.
The fact is, we are all to blame. Let's all worry less about keeping up with the proverbial Joneses and more about taking care of our families. Look, I don't make a whole lot of money. I know for a fact that the guy in the office next to me makes about twice what I do but you know what? I don't care. I make enough money to pay my bills, stash some money away for the kids' college, take the family on vacation every now and again.
My point is, take some of the emotions you spend hating George Bush and blaming him for all the world's problems and spend them instead on your family, your church, whatever else is good in your life.
And I also have a masters degree in economics so some of the arguments posted to this site really do amuse me. Keep posting, it truly is entertaining and I copy and paste your posts for distribution to my colleagues at least once a day. they're always good for a laugh or two.

I learned a while ago that you can't argue economics with liberals. They don't understand it, so all they have to act on is their hatred.
But i admit, their comments are extremely amusing...an inside look into the minds of true morons...

National Bureau of Economic Research says US in recession.
Three-hundred million Americans reply, in unison, "No $h!t."
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 11:36 AM
We all should work together to solve our nations issues. Unfortunately, the Republican response is to deny responsibility for the problem and instead to try to salvage their failed agenda by forcing another Bush upon us. I have a masters degree in Psychology, so I know pathological denial when I see it. 11:23 should keep posting his obtuse lies and spin under a dozen differnet IDs; it is truly entoertaining and I copy and post his obtuse neo-con apologetics for my colleagues at the Brookings Institute and all the inmates at the psych ward as well; they are all equally amused. Even as we speak they are all drinking gallons of Kool-Aid and trying to imagine how he would like to spin the answers to his loaded questions while ignoring what is staring everyone in the face. Oh well, sometimes you just can't see the clear-cut forest for the few remaining trees.

I wonder what the REAL unemployment rate is in this country.
I have a theory that if we measure it the way we measured it in the 30s, the unemployment rate would probably be at 20% right now.
It is unbelievable to me the number of people I am aware of who are only sporadically or unreliably employed.

Probably would, because the way they measured it in the 1930's is 70 years outdated...
