Sink: 'Of course' I'm considering Senate run
Asked whether she will run for Mel Martinez's soon-to-be-vacant Senate seat, State Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink said, "I don't know."
Is she seriously considering it? "Of course. Shouldn't I?" Sink said. She said she'd decide sometime after the New Year, and news of former Gov. Jeb Bush considering a run wouldn't be a big factor.
"The decision for me will be a very personal decision," Sink said, walking back to her office Thursday afternoon after having lunch at Andrew's Capital Grill & Bar.
If Sink and Bush decide to run, it'll be personal. Sink's husband, Bill McBride, was beaten badly in 2002 in his run against Bush, who won by about 13 percentage points.

Go Alex! and yes, If Jeb joins the race, it would be a big deal, because I would open my wallet to you to keep him out of office.

And, of course...you'll lose.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 02:28 PM
Sink will NOT run if Jeb runs. He would end her political career NOW.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 02:29 PM
Alex, please give us someone decent to support for Senate. We don't need another arrogant Bush in DC.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 02:32 PM
Sink should run for Governor. We need one.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 02:32 PM
Sink has for the last few+ years been gearing up to run for Gov of Florida. now that martinez in vacating, she is rethinking. She is a very close minded person that rules by her way or the highway mentality and we don't need that here. I hope she does run and lose just to get her out of any office in florida!

stay where you are Alex! Keep an eye on our money!! (or debt!)
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 02:54 PM
Did she have the Jeb Burger at Andrews?
That's the closest she'll ever get to eating his lunch.
Posted by: in a hurry for more Curry! | December 04, 2008 at 02:56 PM
2:56 What? George already ate Jeb's lunch.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 03:11 PM
Sink will never raise the level of her game to take on Jeb or Charlie.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 03:45 PM
mmmmm....Jeb Burger...
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 03:47 PM
If she runs for senate it will turn into a total freak show.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 03:53 PM
Jeb's a chicken headed punk.
Posted by: bob | December 04, 2008 at 03:53 PM
The Jeb burger doubles as a laxative.
Posted by: BOB | December 04, 2008 at 03:54 PM
Jeb would put a fork in her.
Posted by: yep, it's done | December 04, 2008 at 04:04 PM
Who? Sink? Nope, doesn't ring a bell.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 04:05 PM
What? Another Bush? Ring the dinner bell - the corporate trough is overflowing again!
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 04:14 PM
Sink? Isn't she the lady that lost almost $40 billion from the pension fund?
No thanks...
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 04:19 PM
Bush? Isn't he the jackass who left us unable to get any insurance?
No thanks...
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 04:40 PM
419-
Try $70 billion.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 04:46 PM
Who is Alex Sink? Not sure who he is. Whoever he is, he must not have done anything or we would have heard about him.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 04:53 PM
James Carville can wear a wig and a dress and fill in for Alex to get bills passed when she needs time off from the Senate. The pundits will be amazed at her (his) legislative prowess. Run, Alex, run.
Posted by: | December 04, 2008 at 04:56 PM
It amazes me that Sink is being touted as a "leading" candidate for U.S. Senator. Alex Sink was elected CFO in 2006 and has been in state government for almost two years. Alex Sink has never introduced a piece of legislation, has never worked with other legislators to get legislation passed, has no idea how the legislative process works. We have no idea where Sink stands on the War or any other national issue.
Kendrick Meek has been in Congress since 2002. Before that he was in the Florida House and Senate. Kendrick Meek has legislative experience. He was worked with members of Congress to pass legislation. Meek is opposed to the War and pushed for a constitutional amendment to limit class sizes, an amendment that passed. Meek has advocated for an increase in the minimum wage and health care for all Americans. I don't agree with Meek's support of Clinton in the primary, I was an Obama supporter, but Meek, unlike Sink, picked a Presidential candidate in the primary and then campaigned for Obama in the general. Where was Sink?
Kendrick Meek has a strong base in south Florida, I think he can beat Sink in the primary and Jeb in the general.

You must be joking...

Sink vs Jeb would be one heck of a race and fun to watch. Bush does have the edge. Money would not be a problem and would be the most expensive campaign in Florida History. Whoever wins colors the State Red or Blue for 2012. Sink sits out, hubby runs instead, Jeb wins.
Posted by: Ned | December 04, 2008 at 06:18 PM
Sink will keep the Bush stink out of D.C.

Mr. Devious Plans is an embarrassment to the people of Florida--- and the human race.
Posted by: ZED | December 04, 2008 at 07:46 PM
JEB is a fascist pig...it runs in his family. Grandpa Prescott did business with the Nazis. Daddy loved all his grandkids, "even the brown ones". Mommy said the Katrina refugees were better off in FEMA trailers. Daddy also has been in business with the bin Laden family for over three decades. Bro Neil is a pervert and criminal. And idiot bro W sent us out on a two front war with no plan. America, let alone Florida, cannot surive anymore Bushit!
Posted by: Slobo | December 04, 2008 at 07:54 PM
Jeb? Isn't that the clown who was literally laughing when he came out of the meeting with the big insurance companies saying property rates are going to go way up? He was sure right on that one! Isn't he the same guy who was recorded saying he had devious plans to destroy the Florida public education system? He did that too. Isn't he the schmuck who did everything in his power to stop the concept of commuter light rail in Florida? Bingo! Now I remember that idiot. Yhea, send him to D.C.

JEB has a very small...

Bush vs Sink, maybe for Governor in 2014? It wouldn't surprise me. I think both are going to consider the Senate race but both will sit it out.
Bush doesn't have the tempermant or patience to be a US Senator. Hes a CEO, if he ran and won, he would serve one term and leave. The only way Bush runs for Senate is if he is positioning himself for the Republican nod for VP in 2012.
As for Sink, she wants to be Governor. She will run in 2014 and will be the Dem nominee. GOP must know that Kottkamp cannot beat Sink. McCollum will run for the Senate and will be out of state politics, if he is on the cabinet in '14, he won't beat Sink. The GOP will put heavy pressure on Jeb to run for Governor in 2014 and Bush vs Sink for Governor will be a great race to watch.
Sink vs Bush 2014 Governor.

Bush just wants to be president. Sorry, but the country will never forget what's happened under GWB.
Plus, Florida made no headway under Jeb Bush. Can you think of anything of significance? Palin has done more as Alaska gov. than Jeb Bush ever did.

If Alex runs, it's hers, regardless of who the R is.
Posted by: | December 05, 2008 at 01:21 AM
Have you ever listened to her speak? Worse than chalk on a blackboard!
Posted by: | December 05, 2008 at 09:49 AM
9:49 Ouch! Worse than Sarah Palin???

Time Magazine excerpt:
Flawed Florida logic:
"One important reason Bush has changed his mind, say Floridians who know the committed conservative, is that he fears last month's election calamity could dilute the ideological purity of the Republican Party."
Because if he really did believe that, and was intellectually astute about that concern, there would be nothing more heroic that addressing this DIRECTLY rather than going to D.C. teeing up for a seat like Hillary Clinton did.
Here's what he should confront right here in Florida:
Time magazine continues:
"That could help him keep his party from falling too far into the centrist, bipartisan hands of new Republican leaders like his successor, Florida Governor Charlie Crist, who last month hosted a GOP governors."

Really?
Help our party ideologically?
Then do some corrective action that will actually work.
BIG HAIRY AUDACIOUS GOAL.

After "thoughtful" reflection some conservatives suggest for our Florida hero, Jeb Bush, to expend his political capital emulating character Hans Conried from Gilligan's Island?
We need your leadership, but not in the Senate Jeb.

There must be silver lining somewhere in the cloud of failure that surrounds the Bush name. Maybe, some centuries hence, the historians will discover it. But not in Jeb's lifetime.

9:53...you assessment of 2014 grossly overestimates one candidate and grossly underestimates another....
Posted by: | December 05, 2008 at 04:06 PM
4:06 "Gross" and "Jeb" in the same sentence is something I can relate to.
Posted by: | December 05, 2008 at 04:10 PM
No body knows who Alex Sinks is.
Jeb will win this in a cakewalk.
Posted by: | December 05, 2008 at 11:06 PM
Jeb was Florida's best governor ever.
The Senate seat is his if he wants to run. I wouldn't mind seeing Sink run just to end that idiot's political career.

Sink is Siamese. She would be America's first governor of Siamese descent.
