Crist's mid-term report card

Ccrist In the past year, Crist promised to send "a sonic boom'' through the economy with the property tax cut, bring in new revenue with an Indian gambling agreement, cut property insurance rates, and create jobs through accelerated spending on public works programs. In his 2007 inaugural address, he pledged to "secure work with good pay'' and "world-class schools."

His promises have gone largely unfulfilled. The national recession converged with Florida's collapsing housing market to produce the highest unemployment rate in 15 years, the highest job losses of any state, and deep cuts to public education to balance a faltering budget. The property tax bonanza has been a dud. The math hasn't worked as promised on property insurance. The gambling agreement with the Seminole Tribe of Florida was ruled unconstitutional. The governor's pitch to create jobs by accelerating road construction amounted to more show than substance.

Where Crist has been successful, it has been the result of his pragmatic, inclusive approach to governing. He revamped the state Supreme Court, replacing three retiring justices with two conservatives and a moderate. He junked touch screen voting machines in favor of paper ballots and extended the hours of early voting even when it was viewed as favorable to Democrats, then presided over a high turnout on Election Day that came off nearly flawlessly.

You can keep asking till the chickens come home to roost and you still won't see me set the table for your prepared statements from Rove, Norquist, Hannity, Bush, Bush, and Bush, Inc.

Terminator, that is why I am praying he goes for the Senate seat!

The 2009 Quality Counts: Portrait of a Population report, published annually by Education Week gave Florida the 10th highest education ranking in the United States. Florida's ranking has risen significantly in the past few years, up from 14th in 2007 and 31st in 2006.

The report ranks states in six categories including, Chance for Success; Transitions and Alignment; School Finance; K-12 Achievement; Standards, Assessments, and Accountability; and the Teaching Profession. Florida ranked 7th in K-12 Achievement and 4th in the Teaching Profession.

This ranking comes on the heels of Florida's 2007-08 High School Graduation Rate, which reached the highest point ever this year - over 75 percent.

3:13,

I figured as much. Don't let your fear of the facts keep you from making inane and ill conceived statements though.

You've made it to our department's internal message board on a number of occassions.

A quick glance at the headline and I thought I was reading something about...

Charlie's mid-tan report

I hear Florida ranked 4th in number of green-leaded pencils per student!

Good Lord, you’re about some of the most gullible gunnysacks I’ve ever read.

Spin to your malleable heart’s content, there’s no getting around it…

Floriduuuh!

Last in Education; First in Corruption!

4:43,

It would be one thing if you refuted the methodology used in the rankings or the type of data that were used but you're not. Did you even read the article?

So those of us who place credence in information from a reputable, academic publication that uses hard data, statistics, and math are gullible?

Well, what about people like you who simply read and regurgitate what the daily kos and the huffington post publish while eschewing facts?

It really is sad that we still have people here in America who are incapable of understanding the basic tenets of research and using this research to form independent opinions.

4:55,

I believe your rant is called "transference". Hey, word is… 4-out-of-5 dentists really DO recommend Crest… and Choosy mothers actually choose Jiff!

Pay me ½ a million in tax dollars and I’ll create a matrix that will rank Florida #1 in Education.

4:55 I learned a long time ago not to argue with fools.........

Don't waste your time on him. He is an inconsequential little troll that will never be happy.

Just think how bad your life would be if all you did everyday is lash out at people that are more intelligent and successful than you.

5:05 So do we trust the reports that have Florida at 47th or 10th?

5:05,

Not true, my rant pertains to people like you with no clue. And not those without a clue because they grew up without loving parents or access to health care and education.

I am assuming you don't fall into this category. Rather, you choose to live life without a clue and go on about your merry day believing whatever your clueless friends and media outlets tell you to believe. This is truly sad. With the proliferation of the internet, we have access to all the raw data we could possibly want. True, we need to be careful to verify sources when engaging in this type of research but it's there. Why people refuse to take advantage of it, I just can't fathom. I suppose it's just easier (i.e. not as taxing on the intellect) to read what someone else has written and accept it as truth.

If you are a product of Florida's schools then, yes, I might be led to believe that Florida could indeed be ranked last in education.

But until I see such a ranking for myself then, I'll keep an open mind.

3:34
me too! and to think Chuck could have "stayed in the closet" a little longer as no one cares about those issues in the US Senate.
Of course, he, Greer and the Frenchman think he'll qualify for higher office someday.
talk about a "pipe" dream!

ok. . .let me get this right we give someone a promotion for being an not incompetent? If Charlie can not manage the day to day affairs of being governor of Florida then should we vote him into senate? He is just another empty suit riding the coattails. . .

5:20 is a staffer for the consultant who pulled the scam!

And a perfect example as to why Florida is... say it with me cause you know it's true even though your bosses wont let you tell...

"Last in Education: First in Corruption!"

5:09,I say count 47th.This survey counted the low amount of money per student as a positive? The real test is how our kids do on the SAT and ACT
But to get back to the tan can mans grade, a resounding F.Charley is supposed to be our political leader and he will not speak up about other political leaders obvious ethics problems?

He is a fake, a real phony. He is so gay.

Florida ranked 10th in education ahead of NC & CA is very impressive.

Gov Crist report card: B+

I say 4 more years.

With LeMieux keeping most of The tally crowd in the Governor's corner and with Greer keeping the Party under control , Crist wins re elect big! No matter what. Posted by: Gator | January 11, 2009 at 11:28

...Actually that should have read---With LeMieux keeping most of Tally from killing Greer, Crist wins the re-elect big!

"Florida ranked 10th in education ahead of NC & CA is very impressive."

... And choosy mother choose Jiff!… gullible moron!

"Last in Education: First in Corruption!"
