Posey doubting Obama's citizenship?

One of Florida's new members of Congress, Rep. Bill Posey, R-Rockledge, has filed a bill in the U.S. House to require presidential candidates to prove they were born here. For those who still believe President Barack Obama was really born abroad instead of Hawaii, despite the evidence to the contrary, Posey's bill would offer no immediate relief. But if passed, it would apply to his reelection campaign in 2012.

"This bill, by simply requiring such documentation for future candidates for President will remove this issue as a reason for questioning the legitimacy of a candidate elected as President," Posey said in a statement.

Posey wouldn't say if he thinks Obama is a citizen, but his spokesman told Politico:" I think he's willing to take the president's word for it. If the president wanted to put an end to the whole thing he could order Hawaii to release the authentic birth certificate. That's up to him."

Florida Democrats immediately jumped on the matter with a fundraising appeal e-mail from Karen Thurman: "Today, Congressman Bill Posey from Melbourne drafted legislation designed to fan the rumors on the extreme fringe of the Republican Party questioning President Obama's citizenship. These rumors are completely false, but they just won't give up. Congressman Posey should be focused on creating jobs and jumpstarting the economy, but it seems  he's only obsessed with pandering to the right wing. Floridians need our leaders to be focused on how to crate more jobs, expand healthcare and fix the economy, not pander to fringe elements.

Posey's bill, H.R. 1503, which was filed Thursday, doesn't mention Obama but says presidential campaigns should have to provide "a copy of the candidate’s birth certificate, together with such other documentation as may be necessary to establish that the candidate meets the qualifications for eligibility to the Office of President under section 5 of article II of the Constitution."

(For the record, Posey was born in Washington, D.C. - technically not a state, but still considered America. So he's good to go).

Guarantee somebody somehow could pick apart proof that Posey was born in D.C., or where anyone else was born. Are witnesses alive? Were they competent? Any forgeries of records? Is all documentation valid? On and on, the whole nine yards and things get jumbled.

I think the controversy with Obama's birth certificate is that the original one did not have a raised stamp or something like that. Some may think it was forged or record keeping back then was very poor.
Also, there may be talk that someone may have used a legitimate birth certificate for a foreign borned baby.

First, regardless of Obama's father, his mother was a legitimate American citizen (born in Kansas). Wether he was born in the barrios of Guatameal or the pristine settings of Saudia Arabia. He possess dual citizeship until he turned 18 years of age. That being said he must declare what citizenship he treasured most. Unfortunately, for us Republicans, he chose the United States of America. It happens all the time (my youngest son was born in Germany of an American citizen my ex-wife) does this precludes him from being an American citizen as well?

In case you were wondering, take a trip to Opensecrets.org and search on Bernard Madoff as a contributor. My search says he gave $183,250 over all election cycles, with a cool $100,000 going to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign since 2005 and most of the rest going to individual Democrats.

Yes, Stanford also gave to Republicans, perhaps as much as 10% of that $855,177.

Of course, for a litany of reasons discussed on this site at length, Obama’s first two months in office have been a study in ineptitude, failure, and public embarrassment. It’s too early for an “I told you so,” but what we’re seeing now is about what one would expect if a clueless, inexperienced community organizer with socialist erogenous zones was rammed into the White House by a desperate, frothing electorate more concerned with punishing the old guy than picking the right new guy.

The more obvious case is that of the rank-and-file goose-steppers who see nothing wrong with bungling cabinet appointments to the point of absurdity; inexplicably insulting our strongest foreign ally; publicly indulging a juvenile personal vendetta against a meanie radio host; fear-mongering the Dow to 12-year lows; signing the filthiest pork bill in U.S. history without reading or writing it; lifting America’s knickers and bending over for the much more clever Vladimir Putin; closing Gitmo without an exit strategy; etc. In the eye of the true believer, all of this is miraculous and wonderful by definition because Obama did it. For this group, any blemish on Obama’s record is sooner the fault of George W. Bush, Sasquatch or the Illuminati than it is that of the first African-American President of the United States.

Ms. Paglia’s brand of denial is more sinister. Unlike the “Bush lied, babies died” types, she’s smart, honest and perceptive enough to identify the idiocy within the Administration itself, but can’t fathom how it may possibly be attributed to Obama. Should it surprise anyone that the same guy who cultivated the affections of crooks, terrorists and racists while building his Chicago power base didn’t change when he moved to the White House?
