Poll shows support for Crist Senate bid
Rasmussen Reports: More than half (57%) of Florida voters say it is at least somewhat likely they would vote for Republican Gov. Charlie Crist in the state's United States Senate race in 2010. That figure includes 23% who say they are Very Likely to do so.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state found 37% say it is unlikely they would vote for Crist in the race.
While the GOP governor is considering a run in 2010, 34% of voters think his decision to remain governor would be better for the state of Florida. Twenty-one percent (21%) say it would benefit Florida more if Crist were a member of the Senate, while 46% are unsure.
The governor, who took office in 2007, earns high approval ratings in the latest survey, with 68% who strongly or somewhat approve of the job he's been doing. Thirty-two percent (32%) strongly or somewhat disapprove of Crist's job performance.

Do it Charlie!

Crist is a stuffed suit, an empty chair and has no moral convictions he will stand by.
In short he is the classic opportunist willing to do or say whatever to whatever group he's talking to at that particular moment.
But then again, most FloriDUH voters have never been known to be the sharpest tools in the shed.
You get what you pay for and what you'd be getting is a stuffed suit, empty chair Senator who would be of little use to Floridians in the US Senate.
Crist would definatley be one of the most ignominous guys up there in DC, is a lightweight and will never be taken seriously as a Presidential candidate.

How about likely Republican voters in a GOP primary? Where are those numbers?

Great article that compares Specter to Crist: http://spectator.org/archives/2009/03/24/the-specter-of-a-new-arlen/print

We are in a sad state when
the polls are in favor of Charlie for U.S. Senate.
Please do your research and make an informed decision.
Republican or Democrat,
it makes no difference.
Pick someone that is qualified.

I wonder what will happen to some of these numbers when Marco Rubio starts hammering him?
Posted by: George | April 28, 2009 at 06:50 PM
How will he explain:
"Drop like a rock" - property taxes
"Help is on the way" - property insurance
"drill baby drill or maybe not"
The insonsistencies and the vague BS will not stand the heat of a campaign.

The only thing that Stands Between The Republican base openly turning on RINO Crist is his Puppet Chairman Greer.

The poll also said it would be better for the state if he remained Governor . . . which means he'll run for Senate.

The conservative base is already in open revolt regardless of what Greer wants/thinks. They have already lined up behind Rubio to take on Crist.

No continents have set a record high temperature since 1974. This is not even remotely consistent with claims that current temperatures are unusually high. Quite the contrary.
Continent Temperature Year
Africa 136F 1922
North America 134F 1913
Asia 129F 1942
Australia 128F 1889
Europe 122F 1881
South America 120F 1905
Antarctica 59F 1974

I truly hope that the moronic Republicans dig in their heels and put up a right-wing fascist instead of Crist. I would love to see the Democrats gain even further influence.

Charlie will do less damage in DC than he has done as governor. So lets hope he runs. Of course we shouldn't overlook the fact that he is a total zero as far as leadership abilities. And this poll doesn't recognize (as a previous poster did) that Charlie has to win a GOP primary first. Not an easy thing to do for a RINO.

termie,
having 1 stuffed suit among 100 is not that bad. Better that than chief executive of the state.

"I wonder what will happen to some of these numbers when Marco Rubio starts hammering him?"
Rubio belongs to the discredited arch conservative cadre of the GOP. Amazing that hard-liners still think the future of the GOP lies in a return to the policies that caused our downfall.
To answer your question, this moderate would not even consider a vote for Rubio under any circimstances. In fact, the example of Arlen Specter beckons from over little Marco's shoulder.

Omega:
I totally agree and would be tempted to vote for him just to get him the H@ll out of Florida!
Posted by: terminator | April 29, 2009 at 09:16 AM
If he wins the race for the U.S. Senate, then he will automatically become a major leader in the GOP, just by virtue being one of (no more than) only 39 Republican Senators.
With so few Republican Senators, he can realistically hope that his apostasies (supporting ARRA) will be brushed aside by leadership and that he will get some plum positions on committees of value to Florida.
Of course, because of the numbers and parliamentary rules, he will also be incapable of accomplishing anything in the Senate, except by breaking with the GOP and joining Democrats on individual pieces of legislation and Crist will actually be almost totally dependent on folks like Castor and Grayson and the other Florida Democrats in the House to help him get those key projects in Florida that are every federal legislators' raison d'etre when they go back to the voters for re-election.

Mr Moderation:
Keep thinking that conservatism is dead.
People, including me, are tired of grumpy old guys spewing hate.
Let someone like Rubio loose around the state drawing some contrast with Charlie and lets see what happens
Posted by: We'll See | April 29, 2009 at 10:06 AM
A new conservative face in a primary is big trouble for Charlie.
He may win but he is damaged goods for the general.
They better think about it.

As more and more people move from spending to savings and are deciding to adjust their lifestyles moving forward... the spending of the current administration will be looked upon negatively and resent it even more when new taxes are needed to pay the debt.
Posted by: New conservatism on the rise... | April 29, 2009 at 10:23 AM
10:23 unfortunately for your new line of spin, conservatives caused the economic meltdown that has put our nation so far in debt, and no amount of GOP blather is going to make responsible Americans to that. When are you cons going to wake up and see that the right wing echo chamber doesn't work any more and is in fact an object of great derision for the vast majority of Americans?
Posted by: Clueless and irrelevant GOP | April 29, 2009 at 10:34 AM
Pres Bush inherited Pres Clinton's recession and gave us 6 prosperous years. Now all we here from Pres Obama is whining. He needs to grow up and make America grow again & STOP BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE.
Pres Bush never blamed Pres Clinton after taking office.
