Dem analyst: Forget Meek, invest $$ on Sink
Nate Silver at 538.com is not so optimistic about Democrats' chances of picking off Florida's open senate seat: "Marco Rubio, who has shown no inclination to exit stage right for Charlie Crist, has started to rack up some endorsements like those of Mike Huckabee and Jeb Bush Jr. Even if Rubio were to upset Crist in the Republican primary, however, he'd still stand a decent-enough chance in the general election, as the field of Democratic candidates started out fairly weak and is getting weaker. Democrats might do better to concentrate their resources on the gubernatorial race instead, where popular state CFO Alex Sink is running and could help deliver Florida to them in 2012."

Bill McCollum is the best person for governor considering that CFO Alex Sink was responsible for much of the economic mess that Florida is in. (She made millions personally as president of the banking giant that pawned mortgages to unqualified candidates.)
No wonder so many is endorsing McCollum and polls have him leading Sink.

"Bill McCollum is the best person for governor"
Right.
Just what we need is yet another career political hack that sucks on the government teet to be Governor for four years.
Is this the best the electorate demands?

Alex Sink as Florida's C.F.O. allowed someone to embezzle millions from state coffers:

Dude, are you for real???
Sink is responsible for Florida's economic mess? Come on, man. Are you McCollum's campaign manager or his cousin or something?
Sorry. Paul has it right - we don't need another career politician to screw things up for Florida the way Charlie Crist has.
On the other hand, Sink is still really untested.
Like Fred, I prefer Paula Dockery. If the Florida Republicans try to ram McCollum down my throat, I go with Sink. If Dockery is on the ticket, she's the best choice.
Paula Dockery for Governor.

Dockery is a joke with <50% name ID in her own district where's she's not very popular. She's FAR more liberal than Polk County. Outside of Lakeland, no one likes her and when they hear about her TRUE record like Sovereign Submerged Lands then they'll hate her!
Posted by: Eco Watchdog | June 01, 2009 at 07:37 PM
This Paula Dockery stuff is the most laughable thing I've heard since she was going to be Senate President. Sooooooo, she couldn't get 14 Republican Senators to vote for her but she's going to win the state of Florida? WOW
I think her South Florida, Tampa, and North Florida Facebook pages are up to 3 members and that's still better than she did for Senate Prez!
Posted by: GOP'er | June 01, 2009 at 08:02 PM
This is just a way out for her. It's a hail mary, a hope & a prayer. What else can she do? Haridopolos has her parking at the Governor's Square Mall and riding the staff shuttle in next year. Her only committee will be the IBTC.

Absolutely the Democrats first goal must be the Florida Governor's Office.
Then Florida's Attorney General Office.
Then perhaps the other two Cabinet officers.
Last is the U.S. Senate -- unless Gov. Crist's good fortune turns very, very sour. And that is likely to not occur.
1. Even in the midst of the international financial catastrophe,
2. Even with his perhaps mismanagement of Florida's budget (eye of the beholder for sure and Legislature calls the primary shots on)
3. And his signing the developers' dream legislature to future erode Florida and Floridians regarding growth management, water quality and quantity and related issues.
Please add one's own reasons for being disappointed with the Governor.
However there are numerous positives for the Governor.
Another negative though is the lack of enforcement of the environmental laws: Please see PEER.org - the Florida section.

Here we go, watching the D's figure out how to lose statewide elections. They're trying to avoid the divisive primaries that have doomed them historically.
But now, it's like they just forgot the last election. Obama barely won Florida and did so only because of an flat all-out effort to get younger and minority voters to the polls.
If they don't really push and support Kendrick Meek for the Senate seat ("To go help Obama"), the D's will lose turn-out and fail to win several state cabinet seats they could probably take.
This, of course, leaves aside the latent "concerns" about Kendrick being black. There are still may D's, especially politicos, who think Florida won't vote for the black guy. Not that they'll admit it, but the last election just proved that wrong.
Their strategy should be to pour tons of money into the Senate race. This will cause Shucking Chuckles to suck up every dime of Republican money available, disadvantaging their state level candidates.
Remember, the economy is bad, so they'll likely be less campaign cash floating around. But well . . . I get amused when D's strategize themselves out of winning.

The Republicans are fools if they don't draft Florida lawyer Scott Rothstein for Attorney General. He's so rich he can pay for his own campaign and McCollum's campaign too. His face is plastered all over TV in South Florida anyway! Check it out:

wassup 9:19,Bush barely won Florida also,(many say jeb gave it to him illegally)
if your entire opinion is based on that flawed thinking you need to get back to the drawing board.
Florida voter, where have you been,McCullom had real responsibility of the banking crisis, try to wish it away if you want but facts are facts.
If the (R)'s are angry about not having leaders, you all might want to think about the mouthy media personalities that smear their own party members.
Old Mac would have won by a landslide if not for all the extremists media energy AGAINST him and look at all the negative energy against Ron Paul, now at all the energy against Charley Crist. The (R)'s will beat themselves until someone is strong enough, brave enough to put the extremist pundits in there place.
I predict,it will be Republicans that ask for divergent points of view when political topics are discussed.

Paul - do you really think the Governor reads all your blatherings on these blogs? Support this, oppose this, thank you for this...
If your claim as being a political activist are true... but your activism now amounts to blogging... you need to turn the clock back a few years and start filing ethics complaints again...

Charlie Crist (R) just signed a bill which dooms Florida to be paved and polluted by developers for the foreseeable future. Crist or Rubio, it doesn't matter, these Republicans are ALL in the pockets of the endless growth crowd. It's time to save what's left of Florida. Oppose Crist and vote Democrat across the board.

8:40 - You are delusional. Democrat or Republican, it doesn't make a whit of difference. Crooks come in all shapes, sizes, colors and persuasions. Might you, in fact BE one? (crook, that is)
Posted by: Democrat Schmemocrat, a crook's a crook. | June 02, 2009 at 10:56 AM
10:56 I WAS a crook, but then I changed affiliation to DEM. Your hatred of government is both blind and hypocritical. You are of course one of those deluded Libertarians who pretend to be anti-government, but for some strange reason still manage to field candidates for elections. Could it be that you are really in the pocket of the unlimited growth crowd who's real agenda is to eliminate government regulation altogether, because it stands between you and your excessive greed? If you were a decent and principled human being, you would acknowledge that the Democratic Party is in fact composed of a much more honest selection of politicians who genuinely do want to improve the lot of all Americans and preserve what's left of the environment as well. But we're all aware that it's much easier to spew the indiscriminate anti-govenment hate as the dishonest Libertarians do.

Cassano, who ran AIG's financial-products division in London, "almost single-handedly is responsible for bringing AIG down and by reference the economy of this country", says Jackie Speier, a US representative. "They basically took people's hard-earned money, gambled it and lost everything. And he must be held accountable for the dereliction of his duty, and for the havoc he's wrought on America. I don't think the American people will be content, nor will I, until we hear the click of the handcuffs on his wrists."
-- Joseph Cassano: The man with the trillion-dollar price on his head - Times Online.
so if Eliot Spitzer (Liberal on a mission) had not gotten involved in a private insurance matter where he had no jurisdiction to do what he did: which was to force the retirement of Hank Greenberg, and if that had not occurred then Cassano would not have been able to go hog wild at the derivatives trough (as Greenberg would not allow that) then it goes to show-------another bureaucratic do-gooder liberal like Spitzer is the real reason for the failure of AIG!

Paul D. Harvill needs to spend less time posting and more time prepping Alex Sink so she will have some decent talking points. This way, crickets won't be chirping in the background when the CFO is asked questions about her department, agenda or 'banking executive experience.' Please, please, please, hitch all your left-footed horses to Alex Sink so we can watch her go the way of her husband - in the ditch. The people who helped bring down the auto industry endorsed Alex Sink. The people who have stood in the way of school reform back Alex Sink. The only ones left are those who crashed the financial system...oh wait a minute, Sink actually ran this group. Meek will lose by less of a margin than Sink will.

Stanaki Land deal in Volusia County could hurt Crists and McCollums election Bids. FDEP/ DSL was negotiating to buy land from a major Republican donor Mori Hosseini. They appraised the land at 12 k per acre. In derrogation of a court ruling (Case 05-001852) Crist and Bush and granted development entitlements on the Land (FLAWC053106) while negotiations were in process. The donor immediately got new appraisal at twice the previous value. Crist then had FDEP end negotiations and asked DCA to fund the purchase through a FCT Grant reimbursement program. This allowed new appraisals to be used by the State. May 8 2009, (FCT Governing Board Meeting) DCA approved funding the purchase at the higher per acre price (08-004-FF8).. The net increase in tax dollars given to the donor/developer for the land went from 3.2 million to 5.6 million. AG McCollum was aware of the Johnston ruling and advises FCT. Both McCollum and Crist received donations before and since the Pioneer CDD was granted
