Gushing over Rubio in the Washington Times
Conservative activist Adam Guillette has a piece in Friday's Washington Times that's more national-press gold for U.S. Senate hopeful Marco Rubio, with a good measure of Charlie Crist-bashing thrown in for good measure. Rubio is described as the party's future, while Crist is lightly dismissed as its past.
"No one can look at Mr. Crist and view him as the future of the party. He's an 'old white guy' and a populist," Guillette writes. "Mr. Rubio is a stark contrast -- young, Hispanic and principled." The entire piece is here.

Charlie Crist isn't even the GOP's "past". After all, he obviously never subscribed to small government, low taxes, strong National defense and individual freedom, the pillars on which the GOP stands. Charlie was always just about Charlie. The chckens have come home to roost.

As long as you repiggies allow "individual freedom" to be defined by the holy rollers, I and so many others will immediately vote for the other side.
You can't claim to be for "individual freedom" while giving the evangelicals carte-blanche to impose religious doctrine, all unverifiable, on the population.

10:12 what religious doctrine has been imposed?

But there is a consolation for Charlie.
He is the future for the Democratic Party. Gov. Crist supports imposing Cap and Trade mandates harming small business, "stimulus" embracing, socialized the Insurance industry in FL, Charlie supports tax payer funding of destruction of the unborn in Embyronic Stem Cell Research. He appoints Democrats to the judicial bench, he restored convicted felons rights, expanded gambling carte blanche in Florida and raised taxes too.
Gov. Crist is a Democrat.

What percentage of Florida voters read the Washington Post? Please. Rubio and his "supporters" need to figure out that they are running a campaign in Florida.

Rubio will not win this Senate primary but, mark my words, he IS the future of the GOP.
Be patient Marco. Don't lose heart and don't change who you are. Your time is coming.
(But... feel free to ditch the DC hacks. They aren't helping you.)

matt is right. charlie is neither repub or dem. charlie represents the party of "charlie".
Charlie does not deserve nor is he qualified to be the US Senator for the state of Florida. His past election victories are a result of his unmatched ability to smile nice for the cameras as he gives his empty & moronic just-a-humble-public-servant sound bites... oh, and ability to raise obscene amounts of money from his and Carole's rich friends to finance his run for the next political job.

"RUBIO...the Man for the MOONIES!"
no sane, resaonable person would even wrap their mullet in that piece of propagandist trash, spewed from the bowels of rev. moon!!
had LYING not been invernted, the times would have the patent on it.
(an aside to CM...washington TIMES, jagoff, not POST!!
damn....no wonder the nation is in such a stinkpile...fricking idjits cant even read the newspaper correctly!!)

Marco can win this primary by getting his message out. He has 15 months.
Posted by: Go Marco | June 05, 2009 at 11:04 AM
Hey "s", did you have a stroke while you were spewing off at the mouth like Rush Limbaugh? Most of your post isn't even legible you idiot.

Wow did Baxley withdraw his endorsement upon hearing that the Moonies were for Rubio?

Times is on a mission to bash Crist! They are headline oriented--not truth oriented. bye-bye Times, nothing but a sensational rag!

matt is right. All those "pillars" of the GOP:
"small government" = deregulation
"low taxes" = tax cuts for the rich
"strong defense" = war for corporate profits
"individual freedom" = anarchy and crime without consequences
Yep, matt is right, all those pillars of the Great Reagan-Bush Depression of 2008. No wonder Charlie doesn't want to be associated with them.

The holy rollers are a bit "tetchy" today. One wonders what they are doing on blogs, instead of sweating out in the fields
and the highways, doing the work of the Lord.
"Christians" are always the ones who are hurling insults and death threats at anyone who disagrees with their unproven dogma. That's some religion you have there.

A quick search finds there is no mention of the Monday shooting of Private William Long at a Little Rock recruiting station by a Muslim convert.
Meanwhile, NPR has aired seven full stories or interview segments on the Sunday shooting of late-term abortionist George Tiller.
This is the only listing for Little Rock in the last week: a Tuesday story on master accordionist Steve Jordan:
Shouldn't it be expected that a government-funded broadcasting outlet would have the decency to acknowledge that the murder of an American soldier on an American street is newsworthy?

CM,
Rubio has to campaign outside the state of Florida as well b/c that is probably where he is going to get the bulk of his campaign $ whereas CC will get his from inside the state.

It would be great to see someone write an article about "liberal activists" (otherwise known as) reporters - Steve and Adam from the St. Pete Times GUSHING over Charlie Crist since they've pretty much made a career of that since 2005! Definitely.
Marco Rubio deserves affirmation and recognition for campaigning on principle and not EMPTY platitudes.
How refreshing. Convictions that are strong enough to take on a sitting governor in his own party.
Gov Crist who campaigned as "a Jeb Bush (he said that at least 5 million times until the primary was over) and Ronald Reagan Republican," but has governed like the disastrous Arnold Schwartzennegar. Upon his first action as "a Jeb Bush Republican governor" Charlie Crist dismissed 284 appointments of Gov. Bush's, all but one.
I guess "the best governor in the country" was cluless about who should be in charge; but Charlie in one week knew for sure! Doubtful.
Even if you don't agree with Marco you always know where he stands on an issue. Instead of Gov. Crist who is near both sides of every issue, because he does not care. For Charlie it is always about aspiring.
Marco is exactly what our party and state needs to handle the serous crisis' facing or country and turn the corner on stagnant mediocrity with bold and decisive leadership. Go Marco.

A quick search exposes only a minute amount of truth,in the opinion based "news" of the conservative wing of the Republican party.
The self proclaimed "Conservatives are NOT representative of the Republican party as a whole.
The sooner these self destructive butt munches leave OUR party, then the healing can begin.

The extremists have taken over the republican party and after the 04 election cycle, when Bush Cheney claimed a "mandate",from that moment on there was steady decline for the Republicans, because of those extremists.
No longer mainstream politicians, the extremist in the party wrested control from the Republicans. We have all seen the decline since, starting with the heavy loss's in 06' even more in 08'
and with the extremists calling for more narrowing of the party for 10' expect even more loss's.
It's time for the mainstream Republicans to start pushing back against the extremists and the Limbaugh fringe, those who are calling for either wins for the extreme fringe or the death of the party.
Well the party does not belong to the extreme fringe and it is not theirs to destroy.

CRIST ENVIRONMENTAL ENFORCEMENT INITIATIVE FIZZLES — Fewer Pollution Fines Assessed While More Uncollected in Across-the-Board Decline
Tallahassee — The Crist administration’s touted 2007 pledge to toughen anti-pollution enforcement in Florida has been a failure, according to an analysis of state enforcement statistics released today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). Besides the toll on the environment, lower civil penalty assessments compounded by the state collecting less of what is owed by polluters are aggravating Florida’s dire fiscal situation.
PEER’s detailed breakdown of 2008 state enforcement numbers shows –
Fewer citations, lower fines and broad drop-offs in enforcement activity, even in hazardous waste violations, an area where the state had vowed to step up oversight;
Penalties actually collected by the state fell nearly 10% from 2007 levels. Since these penalty revenues support Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) programs, this dip undercuts future enforcement efforts;
and
Dwindling number of big (over $100,000) cases and half of these are directed against cash-strapped municipalities.
“The Crist administration promised new penalties so tough that pollution penalties would no longer be viewed as ‘a cost of doing business’ but what really happened was the opposite – today polluting in Florida is practically a deductible business expense,” stated Florida PEER Director Jerry Phillips, a former DEP enforcement attorney, noting that there have been slight improvements in the number of civil actions and use of “long form” enforcement orders that can be followed up.
“Even where nominal numeric increases occurred, DEP has little by way of results to show the people of Florida.”
The weakest enforcement efforts were seen in the two DEP districts (Southeast and South) that oversee environmental compliance in the Everglades region, where both the state and federal governments propose substantial investments to protect water quality.
For example, the heavily contaminated property owned by U.S. Sugar that Governor Charlie Crist seeks to buy has drawn a grand total of less than $17,000 in pollution fines during the past 20 years. This leaves taxpayers with the bill for cleaning up toxic tracts.
“Weak environmental enforcement certainly did not begin with the Crist administration but it surely did not end with it either,” Phillips added, referring to DEP’s historically lax enforcement posture.
“By any measure, Florida’s water quality and other natural resources are steadily deteriorating and they will continue to crumble until basic environmental protection laws are finally enforced in a consistent and rigorous way.”
While enforcement records are available from DEP, the agency does not compile or display this data, let alone make comparisons over time. Instead of hard numbers, the DEP website features generic and anecdotal information.
The PEER analyses are the only source for comprehensive enforcement facts.
