Poll: Crist 59, Rubio 22; McCollum 41, Sink 39
Strategic Vision 5/29-31 poll (Moe +/-3):
“Governor Crist draws strong support and at this point there does not appear to be an opening for Rubio in his race against Crist,” said (David) Johnson. In a potential match-up between Crist and Democratic Congressman Kendrick Meek, 59% of respondents selected Crist, 29% supported Meek and 12% were undecided. In a match-up between Rubio and Meek, Rubio led with 31% to 30% for Meek and 39% undecided.
In a potential Republican primary for governor, 44% of respondents supported Attorney General Bill McCollum, with 28% supporting the potential candidacy of state Sen. Paul Dockery and 28% undecided.
“While McCollum starts off with a strong lead against a potential Dockery candidacy, it is not as overwhelming as would be expected,” said Johnson. “At this time the majority of support for Dockery must be seen as an anti-McCollum vote, which should be a cause of alarm for McCollum. Even more alarming for McCollum should be the large number of undecided voters. This would seem to indicate that McCollum could be vulnerable in a Republican primary.
In a potential general election match-up for governor between Bill McCollum and Democrat State CFO Alex Sink, 41% of respondents supported McCollum, 39% supported Sink and 20% were undecided. “The race for governor at this point is basically a tie,” said Johnson. “At this point there appears to be little enthusiasm for either candidate, with a large number of undecided."

Interesting... Meek doesn't gain anything when comparing that potential race against Rubio or Crist...

I've conducted a poll and nobody I've ever spoken to likes Charlie Crist nor will they vote for him. You can't poll democrats and independents for a republican primary. Polls, just like campaign financing, ought to be outlawed.

Since Congress passed President Barack Obama’s $787 billion economic stimulus bill in February, administration officials have traveled to at least 66 events across the country to tout the massive spending program or hand out stimulus cash to grateful local officials.
But a POLITICO examination of the travel reveals a distinctly political trend line: Top officials have hosted events predominantly in states that Obama won in 2008.
What’s more, the examination revealed that Obama officials all but avoided Southern states that Obama lost

Why didnt Strategic Vision release their numbers in the AG race??
Because it had no-name Tom Grady pulling 31% in the GOP primary.
Posted by: the rumor is | June 05, 2009 at 11:22 AM
11:21 States where Obama lost are obviously governed by the crooked GOP. Why throw stimulus money down a rathole, where the Republicans would just find a way to give it to the rich?
Posted by: Tellin' it like it is | June 05, 2009 at 11:33 AM
McCollum's team is a bunch of losers - they led him to to two statewide loses already and have a third one on the way. Why does McCollum keep these jokers on board??

RPOF is in such a weird position with this poll:
A. They love the Crist numbers and believe them
B. They hate the McCollum numbers (but probably believe them too)
Because of item A. they can't refute item B.
This is the problem with the party taking sides in our primaries

1. "Given our interdependence, any world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will inevitably fail." With this phrase, Obama dismissed the notion of American exceptionalism, the belief that the United States occupies a special place among nations. Obama clearly doesn't see the United States as a "Shining City upon a Hill" or its history, constitution or way of life giving it special qualities or responsibilities in the world. When asked in Strasbourg whether he reduced "American exceptionalism" - a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville - as mere patriotism. "I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism." By trying to reduce US status to that of just another nation, Obama diminishes the role of American leadership.

All you repiggies are just befouling your panties with rage over the popularity of Crist. Crist is one of the few in your party that doesn't come across as a holy roller nutjob.
Spend a weekend away from the country club, and go out and talk to real people with real concerns.

11:47 Given the (ir)responsibility of the US for the Great Reagan-Bush Depression of 2008, it's a wonder that the rest of the world even talks to us. Obama is trying to improve our standing after the great pounding our reputation has taken from the uncaring imperialist Bush regime. But why do you care what other nations think, right? Only when you think it can score you some politial points. Hypocrite.

Those are actually weaker numbers for Crist and stronger numbers for Rubio than we saw a few weeks ago.
Crist cannot be too pleased with those numbers right now - especially because he's about to get his with some of the worst press of his career, following the disgraceful session up in Tallahassee.
I am not saying that Rubio has much chance of winning, nor that Crist is not the prohibitive favorite in both the primary and general - only that we are finally seeing some blowback.
The real danger is not to Crist, though - but that it accrues to Republican candidates, especially those who are currently in the legislature, down ticket. Crist does not seem likely to have any coattails for Republicans in 2010 and folks like Kottkamp, Atwater and McCollum could suffer for his sins.

President Obama's policies have stabilized the Great Reagan-Bush Depression of 2008 somewhat, but Republicans caused the mess and they still own it - that AND the cost of the cleanup which will be paid for by our kids.

Other than being Chuck’s road map to decision making, polls are a predetermined political tool designed to evoke a specific reaction… and that’s about it. Then again, my dentist did recommend Crest and my mom did choose Jiff.
Crist is an unaccomplished and self-serving fraud. I pray that voters recognize this before it’s too late to save our state.

The entire nation is suffering from 30 years of failed conservative policies. California is the hardest hit because they chose to implement the ghetto-state Prop 13 "tax reform" polices before anyone else, and consequently, the chickens came home to roost early. Their recent belated attempts to raise taxes have all failed - no surprise considering they are already broke. The result - 40 billion needed just to balace the budget for one year. Thanks, conservatives.

In 2004 and 2006, Strategic Vision was rated as the most accurate pollster by National Journal's Hotline for their numbers in Florida. While earlier SV polls did show a closer race in 2006, they were conducted in 2005 and included other names who were considering the race. The final SV primary poll in 2006 showed Crist by nearly the actual percentage Crist won by.

City native running for governor in Florida
by Staff Report
A Mount Airy native who is related to the original Siamese twins also is making a mark in the political world by running for governor of Florida.
Alex Sink, a Democrat, presently is serving her first term as chief financial officer in that state, a post she was elected to in 2006.
A former banking executive, Sink is the daughter of Kester Sink of Mount Airy. She also is a great-granddaughter of Chang Bunker, one of the Siamese twins who was born in what is now Thailand. He and his brother Eng toured with P.T. Barnum’s circus and settled on a farm in the White Plains community, where they are buried.
Sink was out of her office Wednesday and unavailable for comment.
But according to recent published reports from Florida announcing her candidacy for governor of Florida, Sink is responding to plans by present Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, a Republican, to run for the U.S. Senate. This will open up the governor’s post, which will be up for election in 2010.
Sink, now considered the Democratic front-runner, said she wants to give Florida a “fresh start” after years of Republican leadership by putting state government’s focus on families rather than politics.
Her husband, Bill McBride, ran for governor of Florida in 2002. He defeated former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno in a Democratic primary, but lost to Republican Jeb Bush in the general election.
When she became chief financial officer in 2006, the Mount Airy native was the first woman elected to statewide office in Florida in almost 10 years and the first female in the state Cabinet since 1998.
After spending her earlier years in Mount Airy, Sink moved to Charlotte in the 1970s to join North Carolina National Bank, now Bank of America. She later was transferred to New York and eventually Florida, where she headed all the bank’s operations there until retiring nine years ago.
Sink said she hopes to put her business experience to work in restoring the state’s economy.
The local native is expected to square off against Republican front-runner Bill McCollum, Florida’s attorney general, who has a slim lead in early polling.

No matter what, all polls show Bill McCollum leading Alex Sink. It's just a matter of how much.
This is before any attack ads have aired about Alex Sink, Bank of America, toxic mortgages, C.F.O., Ken Lewis & bailouts.
