Ads target Adam Putnam, John Mica over Sotomayor
As Sonia Sotomayor hearings begin in Washington, an advocoacy group called Presente Action is launching Hispanic radio ads in Tampa Bay (WYUU) and Orlando (WRUM) targeting Republican U.S. Reps Adam Putnam and John Mica and calling for support for Sotomayor. The Putnam version of the script:
In Spanish: Sonia Sotomayor is set to be the first Latina, and the first Puerto Rican, to serve on the US Supreme Court. It is a proud moment for our community. Yet Republican leaders insist on attacking her:
In English: "She doesn't have any intellectual depth. She's got a -- she's an angry woman, she's a bigot. She's a racist."
In Spanish: That's Republican leader Rush Limbaugh calling Judge Sotomayor a racist and
a bigot. It's insulting to all Latinos and Americans. We asked Republican Congressman Adam Putnam if he would denounce Limbaugh's words. He refused to reply. Let's put a stop to the hate. Call Congressman Putnam today at 863-534-353 and tell him to condemn this language.

Do these folks understand Mica and Putnam aren't going to be voting on her nomination to the SCOTUS?

No, because they are morons. What's worse is that they are race-baiters.
Further, I'm sick of Democrats attempting to cast Rush Limbaugh as the head of the Republican Party. He's no more the head of the Republican Party than Michael Moore is the chair of the DNC.
Posted by: Arturo | July 13, 2009 at 07:41 AM
Arturo:
Rush Limbaugh may not be the head of the Republican party, but maybe your should tell that to your republican representatives and senators that fall all over each other not to upset him, its is funny and pathetic all at the same time. Your party has become very small and any moderate republican that are left you have try to run them out of the party, what happen to the big tent party?????? You lost almost every demographic in the last election, and being the party of NO isn't going to get them back.
And before you call anyone MORONS maybe you should look at your own party and then compare the two!
Posted by: Realty Check | July 13, 2009 at 08:03 AM
Arturo,
"...they are racebaiters."
That's funny. Have you heard the nasty attempts by the GOP to discredit Sotomayor? All these ads are doing is pointing out the obvious.
When your party is held hostage by racists (Sen. Sessions, et al), it's not racebaiting, it's called the truth.
And when GOP Senators and Congressman fall all over themselves to grovel at the alter of Limbaugh, then you must accept that he is your leader.

Sen Sessions is more racist then Sen Byrd the Klansman?

She is a racist and a bigot, and she doesn't have intellectual depth.
Posted by: Rush is Right | July 13, 2009 at 08:13 AM
Rush is right:
I don't think this is the right forum to bring Sarah Palin in to the conversion, we are talking about Judge Sonia Sotomayor.
Posted by: Realty Check | July 13, 2009 at 08:21 AM
Susan Smith, I know who you are and I know what the Democrat Party is all about which is why I chose not to throw in with you all.
The Democrats hold the franchise on exploiting race to achieve political power. I would never vote for someone just because of their race, yet that is something the Democrats want me to do and try to teach to do. They even celebrate an avowed racist, bigot, and former Klansman (Robert Byrd) as an elder statesman of theirs.
Posted by: Arturo | July 13, 2009 at 08:42 AM
Arturo:
Your good at this name calling game. Do you even know what a bigot is?? I am glad you know what the Democratic Party is about, do you know what the Republican Party is about?? Please enlighten me.
Posted by: Realty Check | July 13, 2009 at 08:52 AM
its really funny how anytime a white conservative criticizes a liberal who is of another race or nationality they are labeled a racist. whats even funnier is every time a conservative who is not white criticizes a liberal who is also not white they are labeled an uncle tom or race traitor. please explain.
Posted by: just curious | July 13, 2009 at 08:55 AM
Arturo:
Also since you feel like you need to blast someones last name all over this blog, then why don't you man up and tell us your full name. But then again your a republican, and the only thing they have been good at saying lately is NO!
Posted by: Realty Check | July 13, 2009 at 08:56 AM
Presente Action is just more of George Soros, the billionaire, trying to pawn off his fascist agenda on poor hispanics. Soros could help Hispanics more by investigating his partners in crime the Sandlers who thanks to their predator mortgage lending practices have forced Latinos to lose their homes. Soros, the Sandlers and, 0bama exploit poor latinos for their own selfish benefit. Take that to the bank. Wake up America, the fascists are using you.

Adam Putnam--AKA Opie, exploits every advantage reachable, including pandering to the hate vote. That he couldn't repudiate hate speech is proof that at his core he's a vacuum: a moral vacuum.
Political opportunism is his creed.

Posted by: terminator | July 13, 2009 at 09:14 AM
Arturo, Jose - don't worry guys, posters like 'Reality Check' have to conjure up straw men like Limbaugh because they can't win a debate with the actual opposition. Besides, don't waste your time with this poster, as he's probably not rational. You can almost feel the seething class resentment and left-wing rage in the keystrokes. Better to direct your time and energy to the inevitable Republican Renaissance which will sweep away such hate and envy...

The repiggies are committed to a southern-style white power structure in this nation. Their "young" repiggie division just elected a racist woman to head that division.
Keep it up, repiggies, and you will soon be permanently on the fringe.
By the way, Rush Limbaugh is the de facto head of your party. Every repiggie Congress member is frightened to death of incurring his displeasure. Note the number of toadies on this blog who quote him constantly.
The fascist threat in this nation comes directly from the right-wing racists, who want to remove more of your personal wealth and liberty for the sake of the corporate
overlords. There is no money, according to them, for universal access to health care, but there are trillions just laying around for wars like Iraq, waged solely for the benefit of Bush/Cheney's corporate pals.
You "fascist" alarmists were totally asleep during the Bush/Cheney regime.

Typical race baiting from the democratic party. This advocacy group needs to take a civics class and learn that these type of decisions are made by the SENATE, not the house of representatives.

T.R. - Come on now, why are you making sense? When groups like this produce ads or posters who defend the ad, just shows their total ignorance to the political system and how it works. All they are capable of is name calling - grow up and let the grownups debate the facts.
For the record, Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer.

So the Democratic Attack Machine is out in force again. Ms. Sotomayor not only sounds like a racist with her "wise Latina" remarks, but she acts like one by joining La Raza.
But that's OK, she'll get approved and serve on the SCOTUS, but I bet she won't catch half the flack in the press that Clarence Thomas has, not because she is female, or Hispanic, but because she is a liberal Democrat.
And to Reality Check: I know times are tough, but why don't you go out and get a real job instead of working for the DNC and trolling all these web sites writing posts that have absolutely no intellect behind them. I know the DNC has programs where they pay people based on the number of posts they make, but if they ever start reading yours they'll be asking for a refund.

Robert Carlyle Byrd (born November 20, 1917) is the senior United States Senator from West Virginia, and a member and former Senate Leader of the Democratic Party. Byrd has been a Senator since January 3, 1959 and is the longest-serving member in the Senate's history.[3] He is also the oldest current member of the United States Congress, and is the first politician in U.S. history to serve as a U.S. senator uninterrupted for half a century.
Byrd is President pro tempore of the United States Senate, a position that puts him third in the line of presidential succession, behind Vice President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. A lifelong Democrat, Byrd did not leave the party as its views shifted from social conservatism to social liberalism.

notice how the democrats (marxist thugs) use intimidation to get whatever they want (leninist thugs) and refuse to have an honest debate between liberal activist policy making (reduces congress role in setting policy) judges vs. non-activist (let the people's representative make policy) judges.

Whewwwww!
It has been a very long time since I have seen this kind of venom placed in print, not since the 2000 National Election!
It is the right of each individual in America to express his or her opinion.
Simply because one does not share or join your opinion does not mean they are racist, bigoted, biased, prejudiced or any other name that negativily portrays a person's opposition.
Facts are, Judge Sotomayor, made a disparaging comment (be it belief or a sound bite) some years back and it is coming to prevelance now! Why the timing, I can only say that, she made it, it was caught on tape and it is being feverishly discussed.
There are many noteable remarks on record from elected officials that can be uniquely labeled racist, Ex...former (R) Senator Strom Thurmond's rant, "no way in hell will we allow the n****** to go to school with our white children" in opposition to desegregation, or former Democratic President Jimmy Carter's explanation when asked by an African American reporter during Carter's campaign, "Mr. Carter we both have the same last name Carter and we are not related, to which, then candidate Carter someone left a n***** in the woodpile"
Do I know her to say that she is racist, no! However, if one employs, "the think before you speak ideaology", the question would've certainly turn to her Judicial Record and temperment.
Many individuals, has aspirations of leading and correcting my party's (Republicans) message. While we await the emergence of that leader, it is unfair to say or assume that, that individual has been in the fold and is now emerging!

Reality Check Buster and Everyone else who got the Rush Talking points this morning:
I understand that the truth hurts sometimes and I know it is easy to pass all of the problems over the last 8 years to the Democrats and President Obama. Cast me as a angry liberal and continue to throw around names like we are in the fifth grade. I understand that when your wrong its hard to admit it and then run out anybody in your party the wants a new direction and wants to work across party lines to find middle ground solutions. Republicans and Democrats both have good ideas, but this right vs. left BS is killing this country...... So have fun with this blog because at the end of the day Judge Sotomayor will be name the next Supreme Court Justice and the world will keep on turning.

Reality checker, I don't watch Rush. I don't listen to Rush and I don't doubt that Sotomayor will be confirmed. I do ,however, object to your "holier than thou" attitude about Democrats over Republicans. This current President is going to learn as did the last one that governing is not easy.
If you slowed down and read Arturo's comment , it was about the hispanics running the ad pimping Adam Putnam. That's who he called morons.
Arturo can call them morons if he wants to. I know no self respecting Demoract would miss the nuiance in Arturo's name. And that is his name....his whole name...just like "Prince" or "Cher".
Arturo then commented that he didn't like Dems acting as though Limbaugh was the Repub leader. He did not refer to Dems being morons. But had he, there is as much evidence the Dems are in fact morons as there is about Repubs being such.
I would remind you "the Party of 'no' " is always the party in the minority. I've got some early nineteenth century newspapers I can refer you to if you in any way doubt that.
And finally, you may need to lay off the caffine. You seem way to eager to make a point about the wonderful party in the majority right now. It's your time to FU*K thinks up and you're off to a great start.
So, spend a bit more time thinking things through and a little less time on the Blogs for the Dems.

Congressman Putnam has already shared his voice for Sotomayor. See the excerpt below from the Orlando Sentinel article entitled "Some in GOP show sense" dated May 31, 2009.
Barack Obama had barely gotten the name Sonia Sotomayor out of his mouth when the predictable rush of partisan criticism began to flow.
Rush Limbaugh led the way, calling the president's Supreme Court nominee "a hack," "a horrible pick," "the antithesis of a judge" and even "a racist."
Limbaugh urged Republicans to "go to the mat" in opposing her.
But something interesting happened: They didn't.
Instead, many party leaders -- including Central Florida's two highest-profile congressional Republicans -- not only ignored Limbaugh and the other hyperpartisan pundits, they actually praised the president's pick.
U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez, the former head of the Republican National Committee, touted Sotomayor's career and life story as "one of great accomplishments and a source of inspiration."
Adam Putnam went even further. The Polk County congressman who was recently the GOP's third-ranking House member said he not only liked what he saw in Sotomayor's qualifications, but that he expected her to be confirmed.
"I have not seen anything that would disqualify her," Putnam said. "And I certainly would not call her a racist based on anything we have seen so far."
Their reactions reflected a change in the harsh tenor of Washington politics -- a rejection of the mindless, partisan rancor that has come to define our nation's capital and a willingness to think independently.

FYI for those who are a little behind the times...
Robert Byrd denounced the KKK about 57 years ago. Not that it matters since he's hardly the face of the Democratic Party.
However, Jeff Sessions, Rush Limbaugh and company are the face and voice of your party. And that's really working out well for you.
Posted by: Susan S | July 13, 2009 at 02:35 PM
Sessions criticized a white attorney working for the ACLU in Alabama twenty years ago for being "a traitor to your race"
because of that attorney's advocacy for some black clients.
Sadly, the repiggies have embraced and celebrated a whites-only model power and governance. I still remember all the nasty racist signs at McCain/Palin rallies, and I saw many different on-line videos of repiggies using racial slurs against Obama.

Show me the Democratic congressperson/senator who apologized to Michael Moore, and I'll agree with the premise that Rush isn't the head of the Republican Party. Until then, mega dittos! We've had two non-white justices of the Supreme Court out of more than 100. Interesting how the first sign of bias on the court comes with the nomination of what would be the third non-white.

I do think that if more Republicans stood up and denounced Limbaugh's racist hate speech, it would have an impact on both the way voters see them and on Limbaugh's behavior. But Republicans don't stand up to Limbaugh, they grovel before him... and that says all that voters need to know about where Republicans 'stand' on racist hate speech aimed at them, their families, and their children.
