Alex Sink hires campaign manager
The Buzz is Paul Dunn, who managed Suzanne Kosmas' successful campaign against Tom Feeney, will come on board soon to help lead the team that also includes pollster Dave Beattie, media consultant Rich Davis, and consultant Marc Farinella.

Will Paul Dunn be coming on staff in the official CFOs office? I assume similar to the plane reimbursement, she can just reimburse the state for the time he spends on the campaign - right?
Posted by: . | July 11, 2009 at 04:26 PM
Bill McCollum would agree with that. After all, he paid his personal political consultants (yes the same guys he is using for current campaign)$2 million in taxpayers' dollars for a "public service announcement" featuring him in every frame.
Did I mention that it was a no-advertised, no-bid contract? He explained that no bid was required because he wanted the people of Florida to have the best and his personal campaign consultants really know how to do the job right.
Posted by: Jonathon Dickinson | July 11, 2009 at 04:40 PM
At least Sink was embarrassed enough to pay the money back.
McCollum has no shame. He should pay back every dime of the two million dollars he spent for that political advertisement he paid for with taxpayer's money.

Adding high paid staff at this early point will make it easy for the Sink Campaign to burn through cash on hand.

Paul Dunn is a good hire. He did a great job with Kosmas and has other Florida experience.

Maybe they can prevent her from making more mistakes related to her family flights. She should have let the story die a natural death. Instead, she may have made things worse. Does she have the authority to circumvent s. 20.055, F.S., which reads in part:
(2) The Office of Inspector General is hereby established in each state agency to provide a central point for coordination of and responsibility for activities that promote accountability, integrity, and efficiency in government. It shall be the duty and responsibility of each inspector general, with respect to the state agency in which the office is established, to... provide direction for, supervise, and coordinate audits, investigations, and management reviews relating to the programs and operations of the state agency....
Last I checked, Cassady was the Chief of Staff, not an Inspector General. What investigative qualifications did he acquire at Bank of America?

Is Ron Saunders really hiring Derek Newton to run the Dems victory campaigns?
Posted by: speaking of hires | July 11, 2009 at 06:42 PM
4:43 - She is just trying to catch up with Bill.
He never used the state plane for campaigning.
The few times his wife was on the plane, the state was promptly repaid.
Sink did not pay for family until well after Kottkamp news hit the airwaves.
And, to boot, she will not contribute any of her 8.6 million dollars towards the additional cost of the drop offs until DMS tells her she has to.

So that means Kosmas is forfeiting her re-elect to Sandy Adams.
Posted by: ... | July 11, 2009 at 09:55 PM
Is is true Ron Saunders is still as obnoxious as ever in the way he raises money. He needs to get his you know what out of his you know where. I'm usually a gentlemen with all the fundraising stuff but his approach leaves a lot to be desired.

The answer is yes.
Posted by: Re: 642pm | July 11, 2009 at 11:23 PM
Never heard of the guy and the Kosmas race wasn't really close. I would like to see her hire someone who has run a statewide campaign.
Florida Dems have a history of hiring terrible camp managers. The betty castor campaign was horrendous. Jim Davis' campaign was pathetic.
Who knows..
Posted by: Ari Hinkelberger | July 11, 2009 at 11:23 PM
And the consultants.... They eat all the money up. There is no reason to have three consultants on the payroll 16 months from election day.
This has all the lookings of a mother ship that spends like they are going out of style.
All you need 16 months out is 10 fundraisers and maybe one political consultant. You don't even need to hire a campaign manager until November or December.
And if you are going to hire a campaign manager this early, he should be the ONLY guy on the payroll with the exception of the finance people.
I hope she doesn't blow this.
Posted by: Ari Hinkelberger | July 11, 2009 at 11:26 PM
When I explained to Suzanne we couldn't support her over Feeney, despite the fact we liked her and worked well with her during her House tenure, it was Paul Dunn who explained the facts of life to her.
Whereas in Florida, either you're with someone or you're against them, she now gets it that, in D.C., there are no permanent friends and no permanent enemas... ;-)

Maybe an ethics czar would have been a better hire
Posted by: Crooked Banker must go | July 12, 2009 at 01:53 PM
Dunn is an awful hire, guy only knows field...and he isn't very good at that. Friend of mine was a john edwards fan while dunn worked for him, until he met dunn who he described as "a total jack*ss."

How soon until we can get a new candidate?
Posted by: Moderate | July 12, 2009 at 06:20 PM
Pardon the pun, but Sink is sinking fast. Dumb mistakes, poor fundraising, weak staff, no message, and I could go on. This has been the worst state campaign to date.
Posted by: Insider | July 12, 2009 at 06:31 PM
Hey insider, what do you expect when we run a corporate banking scum who has only served in public office for less than three years rather than ripping off consumers. I don't see this ending well for our team.
Posted by: Saul | July 12, 2009 at 08:41 PM
Sink campaign is doing fine. They have hired a very good manager and have a very strong team. Look at her report and there are a lot of names that are generally in the GOP column.
On the GOP end, no one is excited about McCollum. If he was ever going to beat her in a quarter, it was his first quarter with Jeb holding an event. It is all downhill from here.

I just cant wait until we have a good sound beating of the extremists here in florida.Look at all the good humor that we'll get out of the crying and whining from that faction that many refer to as
a "tiny little noise machine".

I see that Sink lady is worth more than the other three statewide officers combined. No wonder she's so out of touch with the laws and flying all over the place. Very rich, not very sensitive.
Does the money count McBride? Bet not. She's even richer than we think.

Also, what is $2.3 million for part ownership of Sink Family LP?
Posted by: Fred | July 13, 2009 at 08:16 AM
The hits just keep on coming when Air Alex Sink is concerned.
State Rep. Mike Horner recently sent a public records request to CFO Alex Sink's requesting copies of all investigative files generated from her recently madeup internal inquiry of her personal use of state planes by family members.
