Blue Dogs dig Lori Edwards
U.S. Rep. Allen Boyd, D-Monticello, said the influential Blue Dog Coalition of conservative Democrats is endorsing Polk Supervisor of Elections Lori Edwards for the Congressional District 12 seat to be vacated by Republican Adam Putnam. "We know a little bit about Lori's recod we know that she will be a great fit with the Blue Dogs," said Boyd, who was in a similar group with Edwards when both served in the legislature. "She understnds how the government economic model works."
Edwards, who faces Doug Tudor in the Democratic primary, in a conference the endorsement will help voters unfamiliar record understand that "I am a conserv and moderate Democrat." Asked about President Obama health care reform proposal, Edwards indeed sounded like she'll fit right in with the Blue Dogs, saying it should be "deficit-neutral" and focus on "small business protection."
Edwards told Buzz she raised about $102,000 in the last fundraising quarter and spent about $19,000.

A Democrat endorsing a Democrat, how is this a story?

I am certain that the extremists have disallowed the use of "blue dog" to describe ones political leanings.
I believe the only description of any politician is either "conservative" (extremist) or "liberal" (tree hugging terrorist lover and anti American).
So this is news,big news!
Posted by: I don't think the extremists allow the term "blue dog" to be used any longer | July 14, 2009 at 11:13 AM
Allen Boyd has voted for every single one of Obama's failed proposals, including that stupid, job-killing Cap and Tax. And the failed Stimulus.
Blue Dog my butt. Boyd better be worried about his own re-election in a moderate to conservative District.
Posted by: Muchacha | July 14, 2009 at 11:25 AM
Are there Blue Dogs left? Please Lori, we'll all be waiting to see where your money came from. Living in your district, I know it didn't come from here. You can fool the St. Pete Times, but you can't fool us.
Posted by: Blue Who | July 14, 2009 at 11:37 AM
Uh-huh,did the state use stimulus money to plug holes in budget?
As far as cap and trade I can only assume you are for Drill, drill, drill that would devastate our tourist industry and not give funds needed to move away from oil products.I personally would love to see Floridians take advantage of the sun to produce a portion of their own electricity.
What is it with extremists that want to keep corporate monopolies in control of our lives?
Say no to corporate Monopolies, say no to the extremists.
I am paying for a power plant ahead of even ground breaking, this isn't taxing me for corporate gain?
This is OK but not me getting solar panels subsidized by the oil industry?
Posted by: LOL | July 14, 2009 at 11:42 AM
i also pay $15 a month to help pay for a nuclear power plant,I will not own this power plant nor will I get a discount.
This power plant will be owned by a for profit corporation and rather then issuing bonds they just take money from us and this is OK with the republicans!
Cap and trade which will put money into alternative fuels and solar tech? NO we are to reject that but A monopoly like Progress energy? "Heck yeah take all ya want" is what the Republicans told this corporation.
Posted by: I pay extra for a power plant also | July 14, 2009 at 12:00 PM
12:00, don't you just love repiggie rule?
Government is the thing that they all hate, but that they all want to run...into the ground.
In the meantime, all that tax money goes to their own personal enrichment.
They keep the stupid in check by waving all the morality nonsense.
What a gig!
Posted by: how 'bout them repiggies | July 14, 2009 at 12:09 PM
In today's political culture where the Republican party is on life support, I can not imagine why any Democrat would want an endorsement as "Republican Lite."
Lori is indeed a conservative, and that will be held against her during the 2010 race.
Posted by: Price Nelson | July 14, 2009 at 12:24 PM
So, why is she a registered democrat? Might as well be a republican.
Kiss the grassroots goodbye, Lori. Won't support her.
Posted by: Junior | July 14, 2009 at 01:39 PM
How funny. Lori is "as conservative as a democrat can be".
You just lost your primary, Lori.
Posted by: Puke | July 14, 2009 at 01:42 PM
Stick a fork in Tudor!
Posted by: Cammie | July 14, 2009 at 01:50 PM
Big deal, Lori raised less in the first six months of her campaign than Doug did during his six-month run in 2008. Now, let's see what she can do once she gets past friends and family.
Posted by: Big deal | July 14, 2009 at 02:55 PM
Who is this Lori Edwards that's running for Congress? 45% of her district is in Hillsborough and she has yet to introduce herself to the Democrats here. I doubt Allen Boyd's "Blue Dog" support will mean much to the base. As a matter of fact, it only serves to remind us of how Democratic principles have been sold out time and again by that group.
Posted by: Susan S | July 14, 2009 at 05:00 PM
So, Lori is proud of being in the same group as all the other Blue Dogs that are blocking: EFCA, true environmental regulation and reduction in carbon, clean energy, national health care public option, etc.
Really? Seriously?
How pathetic that she is even a registered democrat.
Posted by: Blue Dog? | July 14, 2009 at 05:38 PM
Lori, Hats off to you for garnering an endorsement from conservatives that voted with Bush and fat cat special interests and are now blocking Obama's agenda!
I am sure this will do wonders for you when you go to the OFA groups and other activists to get their help and money.
Posted by: What an endorsement! | July 14, 2009 at 05:48 PM
Hiya Susan, glad to see ya.We need many like you.If you organized I would chip in to help, you know REAL grass roots, not that national extremist agenda so called grass roots that is not only heavily promoted by an entire network but they lend their extremist hosts!
I want to get you my email addy but don't want it published,I could just imagine all the bunker dwellers sending me nice surprise packages!!!LOL
I am a little north of you although I think we grew up together, possibly(elephant barn?)

A Democratic group endorsing in a primary? And this early in the race. Lori Edwards has done nothing to introduce herself to the district. I think Lori needs to prove herself before getting any kind of endorsement.

It doesn't matter which party is in power, they are both the same, socialist left wing wackos ramming cap and trade and spending down our throats. Vote them ALL out of office!
Posted by: Santa | July 14, 2009 at 08:41 PM
Santa,
"socialist left wing wackos?"
Spare me, Try thinking for yourself for a change.
Posted by: Susan S | July 14, 2009 at 08:43 PM
Well, Edwards just lost my vote. As a working mother of two children - I need health care and if Edwards is a blue dog she will not get my vote.
Posted by: Ray Girl | July 14, 2009 at 10:19 PM
Is that the only hair color they got in Polk?
Posted by: Reds in Polk | July 14, 2009 at 10:20 PM
Blue Dogs, Green Dogs, Yellow Dogs, it doesn't matter. I want a Republican or a Democrat who has stood up to their party when they are wrong, even when it hurts. As a registered Dem, the only person is the race to do that is Dennis Ross. The guy stood up for all of us when he stood against Charlie (and the GOP's new hero Marco Rubio) and said yes, if you live in a 5 million dollar house on the water, you should pay more for property insurance than a single mom living in Plant City.
Dennis has my vote. Lori Edwards is more of the same. Doug Tudor is a far left loon. Randy Wilkinson is just a loon and a far right one to boot.
Posted by: Hillsborough | July 15, 2009 at 08:39 AM
Again, the national party ignores Doug Tudor. A true progressive, not a left wing loon, but a real progressive. Lori, you won't have the grassroots. We are for Doug. Always will be!
Posted by: Ignoring Doug | July 15, 2009 at 08:40 AM
Have you all read the letter Lori's husband sent out for donations? See: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=145x11459. I can not believe she sent it to me, a true Democrat. She is NO Dem, that is for sure. Her big accomplishment when she was in the State House was to screw the Unions and artists see:
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m3190/is_n27_v30/ai_18480155/?tag=content;col1. She is in the pocket of big biz and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. I WILL NOT vote for her in the Primary or the general if she gets by.

Oooh goody.
I was just thinking to myself, 'you know, what FL and the US need right now is another Blue Dog Democrat, to keep the blue team gutless, corporate and relentlessly anti-populist. Reminds me of the exciting options upcoming for the Guv's race: a power-loving Ned Flanders or a career corporate banker.
More Alan Graysons, please.
huzzah.

Hillsborough: You have to be Dennis Ross. After all, why would you try to slander Doug Tudor?
Tudor is a veteran. He was digging bodies out of Beruit when you were in school. Tudor has toured Iraq and Afghanistan more times than all of the other candidates running for FL-12 combined! Tudor has served for the highest ranking officials at MacDill and is in his element on the national stage.
So how does this make him a "left wing loon"???? No other candidate in this race as Tudor's credentials - or served this country as honorably.
What is more, these unsubstantiated attacks on Tudor show how despicable and truly un-American you all are. Tudor has sacrificed for our FREEDOM. Can any of you saw the same thing? No, you can not.
So get off the blogs and get a real job. Stop eating out of the public trough by being politicians. We need a real leader and someone who has shown true sacrifice for this country. We need someone who truly understands the foreign threats our country faces. We need someone who has actually done something for this country and is an expert. That someone is Doug Tudor.
Tudor is the only choice.

Interesting that Edwards is a "conservative". Didn't she run for this seat 2 times before? Why run now? Why didn't she run in 08 against Putnam. I guess this endorsement tells the voters why: Lori Edwards agrees with Adam Putnam on the issues!
Posted by: Chuck | July 15, 2009 at 11:49 AM
Edwards = Lieberman. She will not stand by any principles. She will be "conservative" to one group and a "proud democrat" to another. Spineless.
Here is my recommendation for her campaign slogan: "Edwards, Florida's Joe Lieberman"
Posted by: Edwards = Lieberman | July 15, 2009 at 12:08 PM
Hi Doug, glad you could join us on the blogs today. Take your own advice and get a real job. That way you can afford to pay your FEC fines from the last election.
Btw, are you seriously bragging on your website about getting 42.5% of the vote in 2008??? Really??? In the year that Obama carried other democrat candidates to victory, you only mustered 42.5%??? Give it up, you won't survive the Primary, let alone stand a chance in the General.
Posted by: 9:50 is Doug Tudor | July 15, 2009 at 04:13 PM
Give it up, Lori. Tudor was the only one to stand up to the 3rd most powerful republican in the house.
Tudor is a true American hero and a veteran.
Funny, why do republicans and "conservatives" hate our service men and women who serve our great country?
Posted by: 4:13 is Lori | July 15, 2009 at 07:24 PM
Why shouldn't we just take all these whacked-out radical Republicans, and all these whacked-out radical Democrats, and give them California. Or better yet New Jersey. Then let people like the Blue dogs and moderate Republicans, straighten out this mess we have.

1 REASON WHY HEALTH CARE COSTS SO MUCH?
CHOOSING THE USUAL PROFITING INSURANCE COMPANY, OR CHOOSING GOVERNMENT PLAN SHOULD BE UP TO AMERICANS?
The deciding factor in implementing health care for everybody--LEGALLY--in America, is the Publics voice? Those who want to just follow the same old road, can do so with the profit taking commercial insurance. Those who would be satisfied with a government run health care program, can now start demanding it from the lawmakers. Those who see a Universal health care system, similar to most developed countries in Europe, should start informing every Representative and Senate politician starting today. Rationing in places like England, was caused by the major impact of uncontrolled immigration. I see--THE RATS--are coming out of the woodwork, using propaganda and downright lies about government run medical care?
The Special interest lobby, status quo have very wealthy fingers in the pie and do not want Health care for everybody? It's a trillion dollar business like Cancer treatments. The pharmaceutical companies, AMA and others have very much to lose? Even many corrupt politicians are stockholders in this behemoth money machine. Most American working class can do--without-- high premiums, pre-existing condition clauses. deductibles, co-pays that is representative of the wealthy medical care insurers. Whatever pertains to your family, you should start ruffling the indifferent feathers of the people in Washington at 202-224-3121 Just like illegal immigration , we cannot afford anymore to subsidize the business that hire them or the millions of illegal families.
