Palin's sudden resignation draws Greer compliment
RPOF Chairman Jim Greer, who caught heat for his critical assessment of Sarah Palin's campaign skills alongside John McCain, still managed to toss her a compliment after today's announcement she was resigning as Alaska governor.
“On behalf of the Republican Party of Florida and Republicans across the state, I would like to thank Governor Palin for her service to our Party," Greer said in a statement. "She worked tirelessly to defend Republican principles throughout her service in state and local government and demonstrated tremendous courage as a historic candidate on the Republican presidential ticket in 2008. We respect her decision and wish Governor Palin and her family the very best as she moves forward.” (AP photo)
Is Palin leaving politics or making a bold play for 2012?

Palin is about to be indicted. She resigned as a preemptive move to blunt the trauma.

Palin's speech was awesome. Only dead fish float upstream... right on!!!

She's a nutball.
And I'm a Republican.

All that tough girl stuff, name calling with the best of bullies, she just wasn't tough enough to take a hit.
Fox news knew about this several days ago and had several people talking about her being so Viciously attacked all the time.
Palin is moving on to bigger money, she will be on the contribution trail raising $$$ for the party and she will have a couple books written on her behalf.
She has major baggage, the trooper gate has yet to be settled, her travel gate and far worse, the permanent fund which collects then disperses crude money is said to be in serious trouble.
Just like she did in Wasilla, went in as mayor there was no debt, when Palin left? 20 mil in debt.Same thing with the state finances.
Palin gave millions and millions and took on debt to build a pipeline that has not even got permission from the other country it has to cross!!!
Wait and see,,,Palin did to Alaska what Bush did to the US.
Do you think she went on a hiking trip also?

Question. Does someone who is launching a presidential campaign make the announcement late on a Friday of a holiday weekend? That's the time when someone slinks out the back door.
Posted by: Becky | July 03, 2009 at 11:54 PM
Greer is a loser. He wasn't even good enough to ride in the same plane with Sarah Palin when she traveled Florida as the VP candidate. Instead he had to fly around behind her in his own plane spending $12,000.00 so he could get in the photos. She was smart enough to figure him out and in a hurry.
Posted by: Greer is a loser | July 04, 2009 at 12:11 AM
Who cares what Greer thinks..just another opportunity for him to try and get his name in print.
Posted by: Who Cares What Greer Thinks | July 04, 2009 at 12:48 AM
Jim Greer is a disgrace to the Republican Party. His gross misuse of party funds to pay for his own lavish expenses is disgusting. These expenses are well documented by the press, and include spa treatments for him and his wife, stays at the presidential suite of the most luxurious hotels across the country, and travel aboard a private jet, to name a few.
Furthermore, his overt transformation of the party into nothing more than an extension of the Charlie Crist primary campaign is unprecedented, dishonest, and irresponsible.

I like the totally off topic 3 posts by the one Greer hater is not only obvious but why didn't he want to talk any more about how great $arah is?
She will do fox off and on and tour on a money begging tour and get paid handsomely for it.
$arah committed political suicide,at best she will continue to be a side show and yet another detractor in and for the GOP. You just can't make this kinda stuff up!

Palin is a nincompoop, and you people that think she is a genius are even bigger nincompoops.
She is poorly educated and ill-informed.
She is a symptom of the utter collapse of any sort of intellectual thought within repiggie circles.

Palin may well have some serious mental issues. This was not planned and caught so many (R)'s off guard.I wonder about the money in her PAC,you think she has been dipping in that?
Although I loath her for the bully she thinks she is,I feel a little sorry for her.Sarah is in so far over her head.
I heard criticism of her on Fox the other night about not going home and doing anything to rid herself of the stupids.
Is this a good time to ask for the babies birth certificate?

Sarah Palin is doing the right thing if she is planning a run for President.
By resigning, she is not a lame duck governor leaving the people of Alaska hanging.
Barack Obama should have resign before running for President. He pretty much did nothing as a U.S. Senator for nearly 18 months. The people of Illinois deserved more than that.
SO BRAVO TO SARAH!!
Posted by: John | July 04, 2009 at 07:55 AM
People thought Hillary had no chance in 2005 too.
If the Rev Wright scandal had come out 2-3 weeks earlier, she would most likely be the President of the United State right now because Obama would have lost the democratic primary.
So by 2012, Palin could be the favorite to be our next president.
Posted by: Who knows who will be our prez in 2012 | July 04, 2009 at 07:56 AM
Whatever brought Governor Palin's impending resignation about is a real shocker!
Listening to recent tidbits and news reports, she really angered fellow Republicans a couple of weeks backs when she was inconsistent with being a designated speaker at a Republican strategy session in Washington, D.C., in which she felt she should've been the keynote speaker.
While Gingrich, Romney, Huckabee and the like awaited her arrival, she appeared to be very apathetic when she got there. Perhaps the heat was a bit intense behind the scene!
More importantly, Gingrich has been known to use the "b" word, when describing women who have perturbed him...ala, Hillary '92.
In any event, unless we Republicans can move in a direction that is more of a "tent than an umbrella", the butt kickings we have been taking in the polls will certainly continue. We can no longer be the party of one person speaks, because of the ego's, marital indiscretions, have signaled we are vulnerable to self destruction at a time when we need to solidify our message.
Lastly, I detest the harsh negative scrutiny, given to politicians spouses and kids.
When articles make front page fodder of George W's daughters, (first administration), Cindy McCain's medical issues, Governor Palin's daughter, Chelsea Clinton's looks and now Obama's daughters, to me it is a bad joke gone really bad! If the relatives become fair game as Karl "Fair Game" Rove would want it, then, that too, is cowardice in my opinion! If you want a real good laugh, seek out the politician and say it to thier face! Referring to 7 year olds as sluts really proves your worth as a human.

Funny how it took only about 5 minutes for Greer to send out an RPOF press release about the support of Palin. It took hours and she got less wording in the PR that he sent out when she was named as VP candidate with McCain. I guess they RPOFers were busy licking their wounds that day as CC wasn't the one.
They've hated her from the get go. It was a backhanded compliment at best to send that out. Remember what Greer said about Palin in the NYTimes? He should have been forced to resign then.
But we allow this loser to lead our party in Florida - the fan club of CC. So who are the dumb people? Florida Republicans, that's who. Greer needs to go now (more like yesterday).

All this jealousy from you liberals intrigues me about Sarah Palin. I'd love for her to be elected president some day, if only for the reaction that'd come from the whackjobs on the left.

I'm glad we have equalizer here. We can never have enough low-rent Pat Buchanan wannabes around.
Posted by: MenckenJr | July 04, 2009 at 09:27 AM
Gilbert pretty much said it all. But given such negative reaction from so many leading Republicans (and I am one, not leading, but one R voter) how can anyone take her seriously as a candidate for anything? OTOH, time has helped a lot of heels. Can't wait to see what happens to her, between investigations and making money in private sector (TY, books speeches). But overall she is a disgrace to the party. I hope McCain is ashamed, that choice helped lead to his defeat.

Hey bout another Miller Lite with that?
Velvet Cake for dessert?
Where's "Chuckles the Clown" Crist on this 4th (hanging with the celebrities in the Hamptons)? Wonder if he'll be back to work on Monday (doubt it).
Tuesday? (doubt it). Wednesday (doubt it). You get the picture!

I'll take Obama's six months over the last decades(s) of others' domination any day. But anyone who seriously thinks Palin would be a good leader for the country has major issues. After that "speech" yesterday, which even Rs described as incoherant and kooky, just imagine her with her finger on the trigger...that's honestly something that should terrify any thinking person.
Posted by: Scared 2 Death | July 04, 2009 at 10:46 AM
I'd like to know what Obama has done in the first six months of his presidency that is soooo great. Seriously, what has he done to merit all the accolades and adulation?
Posted by: Sizemore | July 04, 2009 at 10:55 AM
Palin sounds like someone who has lost touch with reality.
She is a leader in the GOP and has given everything up to the people who voted her in. So Palin quits her job so as to avoid 'politics as usual'. What does this mean?!?! what is her point? Why is she talking about Kosovo and small government!?!? We face the heaviest economic crisis since the 30's and are involved in multiple wars and she's focuses on what? Incoherent rambling about Right wing talking points... is that the best she can do?
Posted by: Tuff | July 04, 2009 at 11:48 AM
I'm voting for Palin.

What kind of clap trap is her statement that she didn't want to be a lame duck governor of Alaska.
They hired her to do a job and she's bailing on them half way through.
Not somebody I want running the country.
Posted by: Steve | July 04, 2009 at 12:08 PM
The reality is that McCain was the nominee because the majority of R's (despite the right wings attempt to get rid of him), wanted him rather then a right wing extremist. Then he picked Palin and he lost. The majority that voted for him and made him the nominee felt that when McCain picked the nutjob Palin he sold them out and totally disregarded the reason he was picked and not the more right wing candidates. She has really got to be dilusional if she thinks she can make it. She has a big head because the right wing love her, but has no clue the majority does not. She is in trouble and there is dirt coming out on her. She did Alaska a favor. Glad she resigned.
Posted by: A lifelong Republican woman who is fed up | July 04, 2009 at 12:09 PM
The only time McCain had a lead was after he picked Palin. That lead was lost when the attack dogs went after Palin. Weird erratic old John, who pulls odd stunts like "suspending" his campaign to focus on the bailout, is a great American for his service to the country in peace and war but effective campaigner he is not; I suspect he would have lost the election running unopposed.

The Republican party was hijacked by people skirting the edge of criminality. McCain, for all his faults, was the rank and file's answer to Rove and Co. Sadly for the GOP, McCain turned his back on his voters by choosing Palin, the neo con dream veep.
The problem is that the Republicans have been buying into the wall of lies that comprise the right wing myth. Meanwhile, the majority of voters have discovered that nothing coming from the right can be trusted to be anything but corporate propaganda.

actually, it is "the daily beast" that has a fine piece by max blumenthal, detailing how it could come to pass that both toad and the bimbo might just end up wearing matching orange clothes!
hope bristol enjoys parenting the whole disfuction tribe of snowbilles for, say five to ten years!!
at least going to jail for being common crooks is better that being embarassed by discovering that one or both of 'em have been "hiking the appalachian trail", as tho any sane, decent person would even what to do either of 'em........ewwwwwwwwwwwwww!!

WONKETTE has TWO delicious pieces on the alaskanbimbo...
the first with her 'spokeswoman" who seems as utterly clueless as anyone else over this, unable to answer even the simplist question about dumebroad plans or goals or whatever...
truly demonstrates that palinitis is CONTAGIOUS!!
being near her makes you supremely stupid!!
the second points out that our suzie zamboni has neverever finished a job, save for her twenyy-year, six-college ejukashun -- at some notably third rate citadels of learning -- to which she has been elected or appointed.
the idea there is that ms. pinhead likes to run but has NO VISION AT ALL once she is elected or appointed, nor a desire to DO HER JOB!
aint that a fine trait for a potential leader?
shed probably fit in fine at fauxnews...for maybe three months until everyone, even rupert, begins looking for a loaded gun!!

I'm so sick of Sarah Palin, I could just about SCREAM! I'm glad yet another repiggie bites the dust. When are the remaining FEW repiggies going to get a clue and drop their party or drop out of this country altogether. Anyone who is still registered a REPIGGIE this day in age makes me want to PUKE.
President Obama should do two things: (1) ban the REPIGGIE party; (2) ban Fauxnews...
He'd be doing the world a favor.

I have heard this sort of thing on all the extremists radio shows and from a couple friends that also listen to them, whats up with this,do you think this? This is very strange behavior.
Its like that entire portion of the the Republican party go around staring blankly and repeating this over and over.
I have also heard 2/3 of you believe WMD's were found? WOW,sounds like a disorder.
Limbaugh is the best thing to ever happen for the DEMOCRATIC party!!!
I mean listen to them, its so obvious to most that they spew some weird crap.
Oh bailin palin, even the extremists were bad mouthin' her on fox the other day had that guy with the weird face ummmm sounds like a kraut,,,yeah krauthammer said she was is an idiot,if I may paraphrase.
I am sure she went to crying and whining about something new now.

Whenever a national figure makes a "surprise" announcement on the eve of a national holiday, it raises questions about what may be lurking unseen in the background. I have no inside information, but, like many others, am expecting the next shoe to drop. Time will tell.
Posted by: zenator | July 04, 2009 at 07:51 PM
I think something is wrong in Palin's family. She's going to wait until all the hate has been spewed and them try to make us feel sorry for her. No other explanation makes sense. We know that fascists like her don't resign when they've been caught in acts of criminality (see: Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield, Sansom) - they just brazen their way through right up until the final perp walk. No, Palin's reason must be something personal.
