Castor goofs EPA boss' name, then EPA boss goofs utility name

KathyCastorThumbsUP At a St. Petersburg news conference today as part of the Obama administration's announcement of $2.4 billion in grant money to boost hybrid-car battery manufacturing, U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor was supposed to introduce Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson. But Castor goofed and called her "Kathy Jackson."

Then Jackson twice referred to a partnership with "Pioneer" Energy -- with the CEO of Progress Energy, Bill Johnson, standing next to her and not saying a word.

Afterward a reporter asked Johnson if if he was going to remind Jackson of the name of his company. "Yeah," he said, "and she needs to correct Congresswoman Castor about what HER name is."

Green Tech can be the answer to unemployment if we make it our goal to catch up to the Euros and become world leaders. Republicans positioned us horribly for these future industries, with their dogmatic disbelief in global warming and environmental degradation, not to mention their slavish subservience to Big Oil.

Cut comrade Kathy a little slack! She's preoccupied with helping design the new socialist health system...

We need to unseat Kathy Castor.

3:20pm, if you are so enamored with the European system, why don't you move over there? I'm sure you'd be a lot happier. It goes without saying the rest of us here in America would be too.

Bon voyage!

Piggie rants about Republicans failure to position us for the future, when in fact, the free market will bring us there IF OBAMA WOULD LET IT.

The market brought us every hi-tech advancement in medical, pharmicutical, military, yes even energy.

If Governments were responsible for such advancements, China and the old USSR would have been the world leaders.

You want Green Energy, allow tax free investments to private companies that invest in research.

This is a glaring example of the complete ignorance these idiots have of our history and the power of free market capitalism; and for that matter the dangers of a Marxist/Socialist state.

It felt good to get that off my chest; thanks Piggie.

I'd rather catch up with the Euros in nuclear energy than car batteries.

Who said anything about being enomored with the "European System", Norquista? I think we need to get on board the tech wave of the future and catch up to those Euros, employ some good old American know-how in tandem with superior well-paid labor, and just out-compete them in a true free market.

Piggie, 3:59,

The Good Ole American know how of which you seem to know nothing about, unchains the private sector, unlike what your hero is doing now.

Superior, well paid jobs were in Silicon Valley and on Wall Street and the small businesses throughout the country. Not any more, most are just happy to have a freaking job at this point.

If you think the Union Workers at GM were doing good; think again. Their outrageous costs drove GM into bankruptcy (an Obama’s waiting jaws).

The Valley bubble mostly burst, and Wall Street folks are the new Enemy of the People according to your lord.

Get on the tech wave of the future? What is it that we import from over-seas except copies of what we discover, invent and engineer?

Put the freaking bong down and wake up you fool.

3:48 There's one thing wrong with your rant Norquista - in your usual obtuse fashion, you've created and then attacked a position which isn't Obama's at all. Of course you're just a traitor, a liar for hire, paid to spew propaganda for your corporate masters. Heck, for all I know, you're probably not even an American.

4:13 Please remember that many of President Obama's actions during the fist seven months of his Presidency were necessary to stave off the absolute disaster caused by 30 years of the kind of so-call "free market" and Reaganomics you conservatives worship. If you folks were even remotely capable of long term fiscal responsibility, you might have left our new President (and nation) a solid legacy from which to move forward into the future. Instead, judging by your actions post-disaster and post-election, I'm more convinced than ever that your great Norquist-Rove agenda is to destroy, blame the other guy, get back in power, destroy some more and so on. Put down your meth and your racist tracts and smell the coffee, a-wipe. This recession and the deficit the follows from it is yours. You caused it, you own it, and your greatest fear is that Obama might actually fix it and put an end to your plans for the future Corporatist-Oligarchy.

You should all step back and read your posts with at least a grain of objectivity -- you've become caricatures.

"you've created and then attacked a position which isn't Obama's at all"

Obama's position is to pour public money into the Green Black Hole.

Billions will disappear and there will be little to show for it and no long term solution.

Again, you believe the government is the solution; I believe it is the problem.

You want Green Energy that works? You want good high-paying jobs?

Create Tax-Free Zones for high-tech businesses to congregate and work together. Keep the profit motive in place.

You know, like the Star Center here in Pinellas.

It works, and public money is NOT INVOLVED.

4:35 you know, you are right, we are losing it.

Some of us can not sit by while one person changes our country from Capitalists to Marxist Socialists.

We can not sit by and listen to our leader tell our sworn enemys that it was all GWB fault.

We can not sit by and listen to our president tell us that the gas we exhale (Co2) is so poluting the planet that we need to be taxed on it.

We can not sit by and listen to our president tell us that we will be forced into socialized medicine, and that the quality will remain high; 50 million more on the roles, and it will not cost anymore money (except on the rich oh and the middle class)

We can not sit by and watch our president and congress spend Trillions on their Socialist Utopia and pass the bill to our children and grandchildren.

2010 is right around the corner. The conservatives will be ready, and bounce the Reids and Pelosis. 2012, Obama will be hitting the slums of Chicago once more wondering what the heck happened.

The Bill Clinton and Barney Frank led Fannie Mae and CRA schemes were really "free market" republican efforts.

And if we tell enough people the same thing and get a textbook writer to say as much it will become "history".

5:03 Thats fine. Then be the ones that can post without all the meaningless taunts that pass through this blog. You just replied to me with passion that clearly relayed your meaning without all the kindergarden name calling. Let the other guys resort to the stuff that causes people to disregard what they want to say.

I support the President and I support health insurance reform. I don't know how Republicans can argue in favor of the status quo of our health insurance system.

I suspect their personal animosity toward the president has warped their judgment.

Just to let yall know, since this information is not posted on her website, Kathy Castor will be appearing live Thursday night at 6pm at the Children's Board of Hillsborough County Building at 1002 East Palm Avenue, Tampa, Florida. Funny that this info was not posted on her website.

Why is Kathy Castor holding her "Town Hall" meeting at a 10:30 a.m. on a Wednesday, when most working people are ... working?

Is she trying to limit to access, to keep those likeliest to oppose Socialized Medicine - the employed - from attending the meeting and voicing their opinions?

Why won't she hold the meeting at the end of the day, when people could actually attend without having to figure out how to get time off from work?

Castor may work bankers' hours, but the regular working people do not.

Just like their socialist leader, Barack "Don't Call Me Barry" Obama, these Dems need a teleprompter, with entirely scripted remarks, in order to give speeches.

Independent thinking or extemporaneous speaking from these Left-marching Obamatons? Don't count on it.

Fancy Nancy Pelosi, Harry Mary Reid, and Chuck "Don't Call Me Scooby Snack" Schumer are on their way out in 2010.

and Barack "Closet Organizer" Obama is headed out in 2012, unless he's impeached first.

buh-bye, Barry

I see the same anti-American shot-rag blogger with multiple names is at it again ...You are a fool.

Did you know lithium ion poly batteries are old tech?
Did you know Safe Batteries is a French Corporation?
Did you know Safe Batteries will be getting corporate welfare?
Did you know Safe Batteries will be bringing their US profits back to France to be spent by the French elitist corporatist?
Did you know the jobs pay $10 - $12 per hour.

Every gallon you save, conserve, cap or trade here, will be burnt in China. Cap & Trade is another anti-American ploy brought on by this treasonous US gov't and the criminals on Wall Street.

Goldman Sachs Benefits; They own the commodities and the carbon credits. In turn they will payoff the dirtbag politicians in DC.

Cheers -

More predictable inept lap dogs of the Obama administration. And they called Bush stupid...heheheehe..

The D.E.P. Secretary in Florida, Mike Sole, wasn't there was he.
What did they call him! Lackey Sole?

The St. Pete Times reporter needs to check the tape on his/her recorder. Castor mis-spoke, but said "Karen" Jackson, not "Kathy" Jackson. Glass houses and all...

Castor hasn't scheduled a town hall yet. She will attend tomorrow's event, but it's being hosted by Rep. Reed and the SEIU.

Castor has a TELEPHONE health care town hall on August 13 noted on her website.

House Buys $200M Jets for Lawmaker Travel
Wednesday, August 5, 2009 11:48 AM

By: Jim Meyers

The House has approved nearly $200 million for the Air Force to buy three elite jets for transporting members of Congress and other top government officials.

The Air Force had requested one Gulfstream 550 jet, which cost about $65 million. But the House Appropriations Committee added another $132 million to the 2010 Defense appropriations bill for two more jets, and "specified that they be assigned to the D.C.-area units that carry Members of Congress, military brass and top government officials," Roll Call reported.

It was just last year that lawmakers sharply criticized the CEOs of the Big Three automakers for traveling to Washington by private jet for a hearing about a bailout of their companies.

The Gulfstream 550 is capable of flying long distances without refueling. The company's promotional materials say: "The cabin aboard the G550 combines productivity with exceptional comfort. It features up to four distinct living areas, three temperature zones, a choice of 12 floor plan configurations with seating for up to 18 passengers."

Steve Ellis, vice president of Taxpayers for Common Sense, told Roll Call that if Congress wants to buy new jets for the comfort of top government officials, "I think that all needs to be justified on the merits . . . Certainly, lawmakers can fly — and many do — coach and business class

According to my information, Castor HAS scheduled a town hall, as listed below. It's in the middle of the morning, a time that will keep many working people from attending. Think she did that on purpose? Hmmmmm.

Congresswoman Kathy Castor is holding a Town Hall meeting on Sept. 2nd at 10:30am

It's being held at:

Jan Platt Library
3910 S. Manhattan Ave.
Tampa, FL 33611.

Maybe a St. Pete Times reporter could track down the information regarding Castor's telephone and in-person Town Hall meetings, inquire about the middle-of-the-morning schedule (ask if she was purposely trying to keep turn-out low), and write something about it.

Hint, hint.

And while they're at it, ask Castor if she agrees with the White House's directive (on whitehouse.gov) that people who see something "fishy" about healthcare (i.e., something that opposes the Obama plan), they should report the person who provided the information.

Taking names and assembling enemies lists? That's called intimidation, folks! Not surprising coming from Rahm Imanuel. Is that the "hope" and "change" Obama supporters REALLY wanted - neighbors reporting on neighbors about people opposing the government? Should we rename the White House the Kremlin?

Newspaper story, anyone?

Susan Smith, why don't you just admit that your darling Rep. Castor is avoiding her constituents? She spent the better part of her political career representing only her Democrat constituents. She is not accessible and her lack of live townhall meetings is evidence of that. She should be voted out of office. Unfortunately, her district is drawn in such a way that District 11 is her seat to keep for life if she wishes.

JP - Thanks for the "inside politics" info.

How/Why is Castor in such a sacrosanct position? I'm in District 11 and would enthusiastically assist in escorting her out of Washington.

from Facebook - Castor Town Hall meeting TONIGHT! Will the Times cover it, and will they mention the fact that it was done last-minute?

"Jack Tinker sent a message to the members of Tampa Tax Day Tea Party.

Subject: SURPRISE! Cathy Castor Health Care Town Hall Meeting in Tampa -- TONIGHT AUGUST 6

Our "friend" Representative Cathy Castor at 12:00pm today announced a Town Hall Meeting on the Health Care Reform Bill tonight at 6:00pm in order to avoid what has happened at other Town Hall Meetings across the country: concerned citizens raising concerns, and being heard.

This event is being hosted and put on by the SEIU, which means it is not friendly territory for we like-minded and liberty-loving Americans.

Here is the information released by the Castor camp earlier today:
DATE: Thursday, August 6, 2009
TIME: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
LOCATION: Children's Board
STREET: 1002 E Palm Ave
CITY/TOWN: Tampa, FL

We brought out massive, overwhelming numbers last time on Tax Day to raise our voice, and now its time to do it again.

I apologize for this very short notice, but the other camp does not want to play nice on this issue.

Bring signs, bring shirts, bring videocameras, but most importantly bring your voice: we are about to be heard."

1:25 That makes sense. More gov't workers:

If you learnt how to speak Spanish/Ebonics/English and can control yourself from cussin', you may qualify for the newly created inner-city unionized CommieCare-CallCenter government job (mucho benefito).

Cheers -
