Beyonce debuts Sasha Fierce clothing line

Sashafierce1 No doubt, Beyonce's voice was fierce during her song medley at last Sunday's BET Awards. Her red carpet and stage ensembles, however, were not. And I'm being nice.

On the heels of that performance, Women's Wear Daily reported this week that Beyonce's alter-ego, Sasha Fierce, is about to make her own fashion statement. Not to pile on, but I'm afraid this effort doesn't rate very well either.

The problem with Sasha Fierce for Dereon, the new junior apparel label being launched by the singer and her mother, isn't necessarily in the design. The collection definitely has the edge and trendiness that mama Tina Knowles says "reflects Sasha Fierce's daring and outgoing attitude."

But where, exactly, are junior-sized girls and teens in Average City, America, supposed to wear what Tina calls "really over the top" jewelry, shoes and eyewear with large chains in mixed metals, heavily studded shoes, one-shoulder dresses, black bodysuits or deconstructed jeans with mesh and lace details lining the ripped material? Would these looks, which will be available in time for back-to-school shopping, actually fly in classrooms? Or will they be relegated to nightclubs and those lucky enough to get a ticket to one of Beyonce's shows on her world tour (without their parents catching a look at them on the way out of the house)? Sashafierce2

The price is right for the Sasha Fierce line, which wholesales from $25 to $75. So far, it has been picked up by Dillard's department stores and Macy's. Here's to hoping that teenyboppers and their petite elders will find pieces that add just the right touch of fierceness to their wardrobe, such as the fake leather jacket with an oversize collar shown here, without making their mamas grimace or blush.

T

we can get this stuff at target or the mall already. its obvious that money and not true love for fashion is the real driver here...

Beyonce is cool and all, and a good entertainer but seriously no one is REALLY honestly checkin for her like that. Her style is okay but really only for her. And her narcisstic egotistic need to try to make the masses buy into her crap is like, really, give it a rest. Focus less on clothing and exterior and lets make better quality music Beyonce...thanks...

Stephanie Hayes came out of the womb wearing high heels. While other kids were reciting multiplication tables, she was learning to calculate an extra third off the half-price discount during buy-one-get-one week. She loves animal prints, black mascara and anything that sparkles. She objects to visible panty lines, Crocs and anything that costs more than a car payment. And she doesn't drive a nice car. Since she was a little girl Nicole Hutcheson dreamed of dressing like a Vogue cover girl. But her reality was more JCPenney catalog. The fact only honed her better ability to find luxury for less. Always on the hunt for markdowns on designer labels, this Deal Diva’s weaknesses are good jeans and killer heels. She can be reached at (727) 893-8828 or nhutcheson@sptimes.com.

Colleen Jenkins learned two invaluable shopping tenets from her mom: 1. Buy quality. 2. Get it on sale. Then she added one of her own: Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! This Deal Diva’s idea of a blissful Saturday includes a trip to the Ellenton outlet mall. She loves mixing classic with trendy and cheap Target accessories with her markdown Banana Republic duds. She can be reached at (813) 226-3337 or cjenkins@sptimes.com.

She lives for 80 percent off shoes at DSW, floral sundresses and bohemian chic tops. She confesses to being a bit of a snob when it comes to handbags and jewelry. She can be reached at (813) 226-3400 or lstein@sptimes.com.
Dalia Colon once bought a $200 jacket for $8. In an effort to reach a treaty in the war between fashion and function, she occasionally wears pajama pieces work, accessorizes like nobody's business and passes them off as real clothing.
