Burger meisters

TbfiveThe fourth Five Guys (now that's confusing) in Pinellas County opens to the public at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Oct. 8, at 111 Third St. N, St. Petersburg, (727) 895-8070, conveniently near my office.

But not so fast -- also tomorrow EVOS restaurants join with the Center for Disease Control’s “Get Smart About Antibiotics Week” to help educate people on antibiotic resistance and the importance of appropriate antibiotic use. Huh, you say?

Antibiotic resistance has been called one of the world’s most pressing health problems. Almost every type of bacteria has become stronger and less responsive to antibiotic treatment when it is really needed. These antibiotic-resistant bacteria can quickly spread to family members, schoolmates, and co-workers, threatening the community with a new strain of infectious disease that is more difficult to cure and more expensive to treat. For this reason, antibiotic resistance is among the CDC's top concerns.

Cut to the chase: on Wednesday, EVOS customers can enjoy a free EVOS Freerange Steakburger as the company’s way of saying thanks and helping to spread the word about this important initiative. The EVOS Steakburger -- just like all beef and chicken at EVOS -- is 100 percent antibiotic free. EVOS has four locations in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area: 2774 E. Fowler Ave., 609 S. Howard Ave., 157 Westshore Plaza and 2631 4th St. North.

Why have it down town? Does it close at night? No business at night and just getting held up at night is all about it. Police will sit out front getting free food. Homeless will walk by to get the smell of the grease.

Kim obviously hasn't spent much time downtown since the mid-70's. Cities have homeless people, and I have never - nor do I know anyone who has ever been robbed downtown. Adopt an urban perspective or move back to the lilly-white, ultra safe and boring gated communities of northern Hillsborough.

And when I say I have never been robbed, that includes all the evenings I spend downtown at the coffee shops, bars and restaurants which are open late and offer live entertainment throughout the week. As well as the lectures I attend and gallery events I go to.

Some people's perspectives never change. I bet Kim doesn't even know there's baseball downtown (or if she does, she probably thinks they'll "never accomplish anything" and need to move before they get a new stadium), let alone three clubs that have been frequented by B-list celebrities.

Get outside and see the world. I promise you won't get mugged, accosted, or even looked at wrong downtown.

I hope they do stay open late because although I love my late night Joey Brooklyn's it would be nice to soak up some of that alcohol with a delicious burger once in a while after spendiing the night club-hopping.

Don't be afraid,Kim .. The boogeyman doesn't live in downtown St. Pete. I think he was last spotted in Boston .. It was either him or Kevin Youkalis ...
Now THAT is one scary-lookin' dude !!!

GO RAYS !!!!!!!!!!!!

jimbo and 2:05,
shhhhhh! let's just keep dt st. pete to ourselves for a while longer. otherwise, we're going to be hanging out there with people like kim.

and luby, if they're not open late, i'm blaming you for getting my hopes up, 'cause now i'm going to be wanting one of those loaded-down burgers and sacks of greasy fries more and more as the night goes on.

Actually people do get robbed down town, but people get robbed everywhere so that really doesnt matter. Of course 5 guys is still just grease in a bag, it was the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten and will never go back. But if grease is your thing then this is the place to go, just not for me as I would rather go to EVO's which they need to open up more around Pinallas County.

People like Kim need to educate themselves. Find out for yourself. Yes, there are homeless people but they aren't falling out of every little shop in downtown St. Pete...Even South St. Pete gets a bad name...it's not ENTIRELY drug infested folks. Get a grip on reality and step outside the box sometimes! I'm a single woman and easy on the eyes and I can walk up 18th Ave S in midtown..yes midtown during the evening hours to the new and still clean Sweetbay and no one bothers me, I'm not approached by drug dealers or swimming through needle and condom littered walkways. No crackheads hanging about...nothing like it's painted by the media.
Maybe it is a good thing folks like Kim keep their azzes out of the area anyway, whith their noses stuck up in the air, I wouldn't want their crap to stink the place up!

But remember to tell Kim that he/she might get panhandled at Five Guys! So that way she/he can prepare an answer to the ever-so-pressing, "hey dude, I just moved into town and my wife is getting ready to have a baby and we can't afford to get her pre-natal vitamins. Do you thik you could spot me a buck so we can go grab those vitamins at the local CVS?" As he heads straight for Detriot Liquors after you foolishly hand him that buck. hmmmm....

Four downtown restaurants have closed in the past month.

Does this board have moderation?

The first post (by Kim) should be deleted, for it adds nothing to the discussion but ignorance and ultimately, a distraction from constructive discourse.

Blogs are full of people with no knowledge and nothing intelligent to add, however, for some reason, they seem to want to continue to speak their mind and let everyone know how small their mind is.

There will always be people scared of cities and people who don't look and act exactly like they do.

People like Kim.

The burgers will be flame broiled once the Uhuras burn down St Pete again. Why anyone would live in that war zone is beyond me.

Downtown St Pete is not a war zone. What drugs are you on? Yeah a few restaurants have closed. More are opening. I am hoping they make it in this economy.
