Trick or treat, restaurant style
Had an interesting conversation yesterday with Peter Pergola, owner of East Lake Cafe at 3430 E. Lake Road in Palm Harbor. Seems that on Friday morning a gentleman attempted to impersonate me. No skirt or falsetto voice involved, but the man had breakfast, felt disgruntled and told his server, longtime employee Geraldine Cummins, that she would be sorry because he was writing a review for the St. Petersburg Times. Cummins is still not exactly sure how she failed to please him (it may involve the bringing of orange juice after the bringing of the entree, but who can say), but she sweated it out over the weekend before going to her boss, Pergola. He thought it seemed kind of fishy and called the Times.
For the record, I don't send food back, don't complain about service, never stamp my foot and threaten and, above all, never announce my presence. Still, it tickles me that there's someone out there impersonating a food critic.
In other news, SkyPoint in Tampa announced three new restaurants on the horizon for the 380-unit condo tower at 777 Ashley Drive. RAWbar Sushi, from Taps’ owner James DeVito, will offer a full dinner menu and full liquor bar, in addition to its sushi offerings. RAWbar is expected to open prior to the Super Bowl on February 1, 2009. A Five Guys Burger and Fries franchise will also soon begin serving its signature offerings at SkyPoint. And Azteca Mexican Kitchen, a restaurant featuring Mexican fare, will open its doors in early 2009.
Oh, and for the election today, Starbucks rewards Florida voters with complimentary brewed coffee.
Floridians have persevered through hanging chads, faulty touch screens and long lines, and for that, Starbucks is rewarding voters statewide on Election Day. Wear your “I Voted” sticker or show your voter registration card in any company-owned Starbucks Florida location will receive a complimentary tall brewed coffee. To find the closest Starbucks location, go here.

Funny.... hey feel good that your name pulls some weight! Some other freebies: Chick-fil-A is giving away a free chicken sandwich for an I voted sticker.
But, most importantly (to me) is B-21 will be holding a free wine tasting with Winemaker Pete Seghesio of Seghesio winery today (Election Day) from 6-8pm.
