Limey's changes owners, new name and concept coming

Despite the fact that Limey's Pub just ranked No. 47 on tbt*'s recent list of Top 100 Bars in Tampa Bay, it's about to undergo some changes. The popular pub on Fourth Street near downtown St. Petersburg has changed owners and will soon be renamed. Jack and Robin King bought it and will rename it Three Bird's Cafe (as in the Bob Marley song "Three Little Birds"), changing from a British Pub to something a little broader in concept.

Maybe the new owners will clean up the under age drinking that the previous owners allowed. For a long time, the St. Petersburg Police and FDLE were watching the property. The patrons park illegally on the right of way in the neighborhood and in parking lots that are clearly marked No Parking. Limey's has not been good neighbors to the surrounding residents and business owners. Goodbye and take your customers with you.

Let’s be honest: Structurally, Limey's needs a bit of a facelift. A new paint job, some more new tables out back and TVs for sport viewing. But really, why ruin a good thing? Change is good, but Limey's is great because it's local, homey, not frilly and a good place to hang out after a ball game or hard day at work. As for Three Little Birds? Sorry, but I will always call it Limeys, no matter what the name change is. There aren’t enough places like this in town. If the "feeling" of Limey's changes a lot... then I might just have to find a new place to hang out...

I use to go there. Once when I ordered food and asked why it tasted different than before the waitress told me that they changed cooks about once every week or two...OK>>> the next time I went there I ordered a beer that I wanted and the waitress brought me a Budweiser. When I asked her why she didn't bring me what I ordered, she said they were out of that and she decided for me. What the F? It's not like the place was so cheap that you overlook stuff like that. It was for sale years ago when I stopped going there. I hope the new owners weren't stupid enough to pay what they were asking back then!!!

I think Limey's is fine structurally, and I used to live near Crescent Lake and never saw the parking situation as a problem...most of the surrounding businesses are closed when they are busy anyway. More TV's for sports watching would be an improvement, and something besides a playground to the right would be good. Overall not a bad place, but lack of good drink specials and TV's made it an infrequent stop for me....

I hope this doesn't become another sports bar with TV's everywhere. There's enough places filled with nothing but overweight middle aged men.

i agree with Mark E. every time i went there, it was completely inconsistent. food was spotty, service was subpar, beer quality was hit and miss. the new owners have nowhere to go but up in terms of quality. just get the consistency right. but i do have to agree that if the place just turns into yet another sport-oriented bar, i wont go back. the last thing this town needs is another bar with sports blaring from nearby TVs. not everyone wants to watch sports when they drink.

The only time it ever was a truly English pub was when it was called the Cockney Rebel. Owned by Terry and Taina Brabant, who quite literally put heart, soul, family and fortune into rehabbing what had become an eyesore, it was a great site for we Yanks to live the English pub experience, if only for a night. The site was honored by the City with a Beautification Award as I recall. Terry and Taina now own a new Cockney Rebel on St. Pete Beach that's worth a visit.

Sounds destined to fail.

This used to be a fun spot when I was completely roided out of my mind. However, it sucks now b/c of all of the "liberally" minded women that obviously dislike men to the utmost. I hope the new owners like pink polos with the collars popped. I will go there when they reopen to down some jaeger bombs and flex my hot bod. Lookin forward to going pig hunting when this joint opens up.

How many people has Johnny Oldja roid raped?

Well lets see. There has been several changes to the neighborhood bar. It closes earlier. As for parking in other parking lots, that has not been an issue for over a yr. Yes, I understand there needs to be some upgrades and some changes. But remember who kept this bar going, Definitely not yuppies. This is not a tourist bar and not cafe alma. You drive out ur most loyal customers and staff, it wont last more than a yr. I said I would give it a chance, but day after day they are screwing up one of my fave places to have a cold beer.

Seriously This WAS a great Bar with a Great Atmosphere and Awesome Staff. My husband and I have met so many great people there and had some serious good times, as have many of our friends, "liberal" minded or not. It was Cheers for allot of people. I wonder which bar is gonna be business savvy enough to welcome the displaced customers...? I agree if you drive out the people who have been regulars, staff and customers, you aren't gonna have much left. I doubt a bunch of narrow minded whiners will be as loyal as the current clients. Poor Johnny Oldja...the "liberally" Minded chicks at Limey's don't like him! Maybe he will fair better in the new bar? Nah, My Guess is The More chicks he approaches with his hot bod the more "Liberal Minded" chicks St. Pete will have.

WARNING to all bands! The new owners are rude, dishonest and very unprofessional people! I play in a very popular band with a great following and we did not get paid our full amount the night we played there! When the bar staff found out they paid us the difference out of their own tip money! The new owners fired them for doing so. If you are in a band or just support local music please think twice before going here. I would boycott the place. I have one word for the new owners Karma

Make sure you post to the http://pinellasmusicians.ning.com/ about the rip off so all the local bands know!!!

And then...

Nothings FREE. Especially labor.. If anyone hires someone, the whole concept of HIRING involves PAYING. How hard is that to understand. WHO the hell can you HIRE for free. Name something. If a band has agreed to play for FREE, they are NOT hired. They volunteer. IF you HIRE someone, then you are expected to pay. Ripping off services is Called "theft of services". It is a felony in FLA.. YES a FELONY.
If it is over 500 bucks it is becomes GRAND LARCENY
If you play somewhere and are not paid. YOU HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE THEM PAY.

(1) Call the sheriff right there, A car will be sent. Place your offical complaint and get a complaint number. Keep the officers card you get with complaint number on it.
(2) Make sure your complaint states Theft of services or GRAND LARCENY in your complaint. Make sure the officer writes in his little book your complaint.
(3) Dont worry the owner has not made a written contract. Verbal contracts are legal and binding in this and many states. YOU dont have to PROVE He was suppose to pay you. HE has to PROVE he DIDNT have to PAY you.
The LAW is based on the fact LABOR is not FREE.
(4) Dont worry the owner will tell them you agreed to play for free, or anything he says at the time. If its a lie, state so. HE cant prove it if its not true.
(5) Immediatly call the sheriffs office the following day and push for the complaint to be referred to DA by the officer who took complaint.
(6) After two days, Get a copy of the filed complaint from sheriffs office in person. Takes a couple minutes and cost 2 bucks.
(7) Take copy of your complaint and file number to State attorney (DA) office and file request for charges to be filed. You have that right. They will persue if you show yourself serious enough to follow up.
(8) File a small claims action with copies of complaint and sheriff report, 140 bucks.
(9) Here is the good part. Monetary claims in civil court that involve maliciuos crime such as "theft of service" or "GRAND LARCENY" allow you to collect 5 times the loss , PLUS damages and expenses.

All this takes about 4 hours over a couple days. Big deal. DONT let anyone Rip you off.
