Parkshore Grill to do benefit dinner for Gateway Organic Garden

Not sure if people saw this, but Tyson Grant, chef at Parkshore Grill (and soon to open 400 Beach Seafood & Tap House), says they're doing a benefit wine dinner for the Gateway Organic Garden at Parkshore Grill on July 22, featuring Murphy Goode Winery. Check out the menu and details here. 300 Beach Drive NE, St. Petersburg; (727) 896-9463.

Laura: Thanks for the tip here. Thought you would be interested in knowing that in doing my investigative work for my restaurant site, www.dineandfind.com, I've learned that fine restaurant in Lutz, Up The Creek, closed last Friday week. Also, noted that Dagwood's Sandwich Shop has also closed.

Gateway Organic Farm is run by two very sweet people who don't have a clue, or maybe they do. The very expensive "membership" resulted in the same tired greens every week from mid November to early May and in very, very small quantities. We got one beet or one kohlrabi or one turnip. It was pathetic, not even a meals worth. I would bet that all the promised gourmet produce went to those few restaurants who got there first and the long-suffering "members" got the leftovers (or the shaft as the case may be). We got so tired of bitter greens and skimpy quantities that we just quit going the 30-mile round trip. Plus no matter what the owners say, this is a profit-making operation not really a CSA (community supported agriculture). And organic is just a word. What they need is better farming methods, a sunnier location, real fertilizer, and a business manager -- not a benefit. But that's just one person's opinion.
