Fake press release fools press -- including us

Tampabay.com posted a news item this morning on the Fueling Station pertaining to the U.S. Climate Action Partnership. The release was a hoax by another group looking for publicity. The group sent out a fake press release, and followed up with phone calls to reporters using fake names and pretending to be a p.r. firm representing the partnership. Several news organizations, including tampabay.com, posted the fake information on their Web sites before the real U.S. Climate Action Partnership, a consortium of businesses and environmental groups, alerted them to the hoax.
