China's greenhouse gas emission growth will wipe out Western cutbacks, warns U.S. energy secty

StevenChu China's greenhouse-gas emissions growth is on course to wipe out gains from Western conservation efforts unless it intensifies clean-up efforts, U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu told audiences while on a visit to China this week, the Wall Street Journal is reporting.

"While acknowledging that the world's developed Western nations have contributed most of the carbon dioxide already trapped in the atmosphere, Mr. Chu warned that China could add more in the next few decades than everything the U.S. emitted since the Industrial Revolution," the WSJ says.

Chu and Commerce Secretary Gary Locke are in Beijing this week to talk about climate change with Chinese leaders, the Los Angeles Times reports. They hope "to open the nation's market to American clean technology products while nudging China toward committing to hard targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions," the paper reports, but notes, "They have their work cut out for them."

Although China has recently begun beefing up its solar, wind and other alternate energy sources, "it's favoring its own wind and solar manufacturers over foreign suppliers," says the LAT. "And despite recently surpassing the United States as the world's largest emitter of carbon dioxide, China has stated repeatedly that the U.S. and other industrial powers must take the lead on cutting emissions."

Gee, what a surprise. Seeing as China has gone from zero to 50% of world solar panel production in 5 years, its no surprise that they will not only supply their own needs for solar (and wind), but the rest of the world's needs within the next decade.

China sees a great market opportunity driven by idiotic government policies in developed countries.

get-smart

The Chinese are under pressure from the West to get on the clean energy bandwagon. They are doing a dog and pony show and being a good salesman by owning the product that they are selling, but I don't believe their alternate energy program will put a dent into their energy needs.

Besides, every gallon that we save, conserve, cap or trade here, will be burnt in China. Cap & Trade is another anti-American ploy brought on by this treasonous US gov't and the criminals on Wall Street.

Goldman Sachs Benefits, They own the commodities and the carbon credits. In turn they will payoff the dirtbag politicians in DC.
