It could be worse

Food writers in Florida lament the heat and how to help people cook in it until Thanksgiving and beyond. The six-month summer gives us more than enough opportunities to write about salads, sorbet and cold soups. By this time in the year, it gets a little weary.

Here's the flip side of our predicament from T.C. Mitchell, the award-winning food editor of the Anchorage Daily News:

"ANCHORAGE, Alaska … Now that the inevitable has happened, we must gird ourselves for the long, dark chill that awaits."

"Nothing can bring summer back. But, by golly, a good bowl of oatmeal sure would warm the belly, fortify the soul and put a measure of mettle in our steps.''

I guess we should be happy that we don't have to come up with six months worth of stories for the " long, dark chill.''

A side note, Alaska has some of the worst food on the planet ... just horrible restaurants, even the seafood is lousy ... You'd think with all that time they spend indoors, they'd be better cooks ..
