The monster lobster roll of Cape Cod

JANET This will be the last time I make you jealous with talk of delicious lobster rolls from Cape Cod. Still, I have to share this photo of yours truly with the best and biggest we've had here. This one is from the Chatham Pier Fish Market. The boats off-load loads of fish and shellfish nearby and some of it ends up here. This lobster roll had very little mayo and just a bit of chopped celery, both the hallmarks of a legendary lobster roll. The roll plus fries and cole slaw was $19.95. Don't leave home without your wallet if you come up here.

It's been rainy-dreary here for a couple days. Wild rabbits and grass love it though. Everything looks fresh and healthy. The flowers love the mist, too. Hydrangeas haven't popped yet but the wild roses are out, scenting the air mightily.

We ate breakfast at a very local joint this morning, the Old Harbor Cafe. The women next to us talked of lilacs and poppies, Kennedys and rehab, the cost of health care and lobsters. Oh, yeah, and the Red Sox. They beat the Yankees again last night. The Red Sox are 8-0 against the Yanks this season and that provided plenty of coffee shop chat today.

Time to ponder lunch ...

I hope you get a chance to see and smell the lilacs before you leave New England! We can go roses down here in Florida, but not lilacs!

Doh! I meant, "grow," of course!

wowza. i thought the market on lobster was supposed to be down right now. when i was in new england a couple years ago, i couldn't wait to have a lobster roll, but basically was turned off by the sticker shock. $15-21 for something the size of a hot dog? ugh. so good, tho. totally unfair. does look awesome, tho.

Hey Jim ... We've seen everything everything from $14.99 to this one at the Pier, though it did come with fries and cole slaw. Most common price seems to be about $16. Loved your Top Chef burger piece ... Can't wait to eat the Diner.

Eat AT the diner, as opposed to eating the whole darn thing. Though maybe that's not a bad idea ...

Bongo's on St Pete Beach used to have a lobster roll that was quite good. Alas, Bongo's is no more. Casual Clam serves one, but it is small and pricey. My local fav: Monstah Lobstah!! By the way, Janet, you look *great* - you need to get the Times to take a new pic and post it in place of that old one!

Matt

Rosie's Clam Shack on 49th st. in Pinellas Park serves a nice lobster roll.

Boy am I homesick when I see that photo! We used to vacation in South Chatham when I was a child and we always had our lobster rolls. You're probably back in FL by now, but the lobster rolls are much cheaper if you head up the coast to Ipswich and Salisbury on the beach!

Mr Lobstah

The best lobster roll on the planet is at Red's in Wiscasset Maine. I would travel 10 hours to eat one of Red's lobster rolls. a full lobster in a toated hot dog roll with your choice of drawn buter or mayo.
