Fayson leaves the program

GAINESVILLE - Running back/receiver Jarred Fayson has asked for permission to transfer, and it has been granted by the Florida coaching staff.

According to those close to the situation, Fayson's release will not allow him to transfer to any school in Florida.

A former star quarterback at Hillsborough High, Fayson has been contemplating his future with the Gators for some time.  He has acknowledged he thought of leaving after playing sparingly last season, but said former receiver Dallas Baker convinced him to stick around, promising him that with hard work and patience, his time would come.
He has played in all 11 games this season with 19 rushes for 89 yards. He also had 12 receptions for 148 yards, including a long of 30 yards.

But he did not play at all in Saturday’s win over Florida State.

Fayson is among two area players who have left the team this week. Tight end Trent Pupello has also decided to transfer. He did not see action in any games in two seasons.

Not sure why he would leave after this season. He will only be eligible for one more season somewhere else. Caldwell will be gone next season, which moves him up and he should see more time. It is not a big loss though because the Gators are stacked at the wide out spot anyway.

Hank

I'm sorry to see Jarred leave but I guess he's got to do what he feels is best for himself.

Since Fayson originally committed to USF, then backed out and chose UF,
could the "no in state school" release be to prevent him from transferring back home to Tampa and getting one of those hardship waivers that USF always seems to manage to get from the NCAA so their guys don't have to sit out a year? They currently have 6 or more guys with these waivers while players at other schools (like Moody at UF) must sit out a year.

Tampabaysportsfanatic

Could be, but he would have to show a hardship and to my knowledge the only hardship he has is finding the football field on gameday.

Marshall

that hurts. i was expecting him to have a big year as the no.2 next year.
too bad they wont let him go to usf. their receivers cant catch a cold

COME ON DOWN TO USF FAYSON!!!!

We would LOVE to have you. Other then maybe Carlton Hill, we don't have anyone on our team with the speed and big time playmaking ability of you.

We would dance in the streets if you joined the squad.

Come on good buddy. Join the bull nation.

ARI

You do remember that USF is in Florida right? He can't go to any school in the state of Florida

Tampabaysportsfanatic

Marshall,

Its not that big of a loss. Riley Cooper and Louis Murphey have played better than he has this season anyway. The Gators also have David Nelson a sophomore and Deonte Thompson from last years class who will be a stud. Also, the Gators just got two more Freshman 4 * wide outs to commit and are in the running for more.

VOR

This is not the pros, how exactly can they prevent him from transfering instate if he sits out the year?

Ari Hinkelberger

I know he can't transfer to any state school. I think that is so stupid. I don't know why coaches get caught up in that. If the kid doesn't want to be a part of your program anymore, why are you preventing him from pursuing his dreams??

Leavitt tried to stop one of his LB's from transfering to stupid elon because we play them. I mean Elon?? do we really care if a guy plays at Elon? Does it matter where he goes.?
He still has to sit out a year.

USF is in his hometown. He should be allowed to transfer home.. Eventhough QB doesn't look to be much of an option for him here anyways.

Tampabaysportsfanatic

VOR,

He signed at UF. That means they own you for your 4 years. The only way you can go somewhere else is if you pay your entire way the whole time. This happened to CJ Spiller at Clemson, he wanted to transfer to Florida, but Clemson would not let him out of his scholarship so he returned to Clemson. Basically the Gators told Fayson they would let him out as long as he agreed not to go to another Florida school.

USC did that with Moody, who came to UF, than did it to another wide out and told him he could not go to a Pac 10 school nor could he come to Florida. Once you sign onto a school they have you for 4 years unless they let you go.

Tampabaysportsfanatic

Ari,

I agree with you, I don't think that schools should prevent a guy from going somewhere. They promise these kids the world and they are only 17 and don't know much better. They get punished by having to sit out a year, 2 if it is in conference, that should be enough.

If you're not a Gator, you're Gator bait.

tj

Who cares he is a bench warmer.

Tom

Why the no state schools rule? It's sad the kid can't play football when he may still want to stay close to home. He probably BARELY read the contract, you can't blame a 17 yr old in high school for that.

Tampabaysportsfanatic

It looks like he wants to go play QB anyway so he may not have wanted to come to a Florida school.

Hank

Reports are that Fayson is going to WV. Probably a good place for him if he wants to play QB. They run the spread also and Urban Meyer and Rich Rodriguez are good friends. Good Luck Jarred.

Tampabaysportsfanatic

Good Luck to him. If he wants to play QB that is a great place for him to go
