Oops: Gators' $8,000 BCS football trophy smashed

As part of Florida's Orange and Blue weekend, fans viewed and posed with the 2006 BCS national championship trophy. But it was damaged Friday when someone knocked the top of the Waterford Crystal trophy, valued at $8,000, off its pedestal as it sat on a coffee table outside coach Urban Meyer's office. The football shattered. Chip Howard, associate athletics director for operations, said the trophy, one of two that UF owns, is insured and a replacement is expected to arrive in about three months. The company that manufactures the trophy told Howard that UF is the third school this year to need a replacement. Officials don't know who knocked the trophy down, but will continue to occasionally display it. "Accidents happen," Howard said.

Hilarious!

Ted

Sounds over priced to me. I'm sure they will just use funds from some educational purpose to fix it.

Gator Hater

Love it!

Sean

Chief Osceola

mm

No worries, the replace ment will be there in 3 months along with a third one sometime in January!

When you have so many championship trophies around, they get in the way sometimes.

They should send the new one out to USC where it should have gone in the first place.

Judy

No big deal, we'll be winning another one this year! Go Gators!!!

Chief Osceola

Was it the one from '96? You only lost one game that year, same as us.

Amy

On a coffee table? Well yes, we ran out of space in the trophy room and had to put it somewhere...

Football and crystal are not a good combination.

bdiddy

i guess they don't teach history at florida. the tropheys won since '96 were the first. maybe y'all dominated water polo throughout the 20th century, but i haven't really followed the sport.

Urban

A coffee Table...maybe they will learn a single wide does not make a good trophy room

Don

Tebow can use his super powers to fix it, dont worry!

Gators love Jhort's

Urban must've not been paying attention to where he was walking whilst texting recruits like a preteen...

who broke the trophy?

Chief Osceola
