Florida softball one win away from College World Series
With its 4-2 win over Cal Friday afternoon, the softball team moved one step closer to its goal of going to its first College World Series.
No. 1 Florida (66-3) managed to pull out the win, despite stranding 10 runners on base. UF pitcher Stacey Nelson gave up nine hits, but also had 10 strikeouts in the game. Cal (43-26) was hampered by three costly errors.
"We played well enough to win,'' coach Tim Walton said. "At this time of the season, that's really all that matters.''
Florida will play Cal at noon on Saturday for the right to advance to the CWS. If the Gators lose the first game, they will play again 30 minutes later for the Super regional championship.
