Tebow named SEC Male Athlete of the Year

Quarterback Tim Tebow has been named the SEC Male Athlete of the Year, voted on by the league's athletic directors. He was honored along with former Tennessee basketball player Candace Parker as the league's Female Athlete of the Year.

As the only sophomore to ever win the Heisman Trophy, Tebow has thrown for 3,644 yards and 37 touchdowns in his two seasons as a Gator.  He has rushed for 1,364 yards with 31 touchdowns, both school records by a Florida quarterback.

An All-SEC first-team selection by both the league’s coaches and the Associated Press, Tebow also became the first quarterback in college football history to pass for 20 and rush for 20 touchdowns.

Also this season, he earned a spot on ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-American First-Team squad, the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll and the SEC Community Service Team.

The other male nominees were: Michael Thompson, Alabama (golf); Darren McFadden, Arkansas (football); : Cesar Cielo, Auburn swimming); Gordon Beckham, Georgia (baseball); Rashaud Scott, Kentucky (track & field); Glenn Dorsey, LSU (football); Erling Tveit, Ole Miss (tennis); Jamil Hubbard, Mississippi State (track & field); Jason Richardson, South Carolina (track & field); Chris Lofton, Tennessee (basketball); Shan Foster, Vanderbilt (basketball).

WHAT A JOKE!!! THIS KID HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING TO DESERVE THIS AWARD. THE GATOR THAT STOLE THE DEAD WOMAN'S CREDIT CARD IS A BETTER CANIDATE.

Why are we talking about Tebow in TAMPA! Hello...anyone out there??? We have a powerhouse in the making here with our Bulls! I'm sick of the Gator talk here in Tampa...channel 10 news is obviously being paid by UF to display all their news first. GO BULLS...b/t/w, Tebow is solely a product of "better" group of teammates.

You USF fans are becoming more arrogant than the Nole & Cane fans. I can put up with those schools because at least they have won championships. Has USF ever won a championship in anything? Oh, by the way, real powerhouse programs don't have to put silly billboards around town and sell season tickets for $88 to fill their stadiums.

Let them run their mouths Gator Grad. They had one HALF of a good season and think they are above every other state school. You all need to at least win that weak Big East conference before you even think about challenging ANY of the big three. GO GATORS!!

Mark, I think you're on the wrong blog. Why don't you head back over to GA's blog where you guys all pat each other on the back and get excited over your 1 star verbals. I wonder how many will even qualify and step foot on your campus. Go thing you have Pearl River.

Let's see where to start here.... Which program grew the most over a 10 year period? hmmm.... we haven't been around since the Ice Age. And you wanna talk arrogance to a USF Bull fan? Outside of the Red Sox fans, the Gators fans are next in line. I can actually say that I do like the Noles and Canes fans in Florida, they have their own cities. Gainesville is so small that they migrated to Tampa to have a local news station. My point is that Noles and Canes fans come ro RJS with respect, Gators fans don't respect USF because of proximity.

Arrogance? USF shot up to #2 last year and then the trash talking started. There are plenty of Gators that live in Tampa Bay and have supported the USF program for years. Its a way to still get a taste of college football. I have been going to USF games for the past four years when they were absolutely terrible ( remeber Pat Julmiste?) and never had a problem with the fans until they all of a sudden got the taste in their mouth that they were contenders. Then the chest pounding started. Maybe some Gator fans are arrogant but at least they can say that they have won championships. What has USF done to brag so much? You haven't even won your conference (which doesn't even have a championship game). Stick around the top 25 for more than a few weeks and then come back and talk to me.

In 100 years of play, Florida has been recognized as SEC champions seven times (finishing first in the conference an additional three times), were national champions of the 1996 and 2006 college football seasons, and went undefeated in the 1995 regular season....that's impressive. USF has been around 10 years, 90 more to go. Okay, I'll give it to you if we don't win atleast 2 by 2098. I'm just asking that with this statistic and how fast the Bulls are rising, Tampa should support the team more.

As for the anonymous recruiting guru, "I'll take 100 more years of recruiting a football team Alex for $500" USF has represented well in the NFL with not one athlete graded a 4-star or greater. Again... only time will tell. I'm leaving now to post a billboard for $88 season tickets... "Only 90 more years to win 2, climb aboard the stampede"

It's so sad all the negative comments I've just read. We all praise the team we have chosen to support. I support the Gator's 100% and love Tebow, just as any other team would support an outstanding player from their team. I am happy USF did as well as they did last year. I hope they do great this year too. But I will always be a Gator! mm
