Percy Harvin says he's 90 percent and ready to play

Right now, he's about 90 percent healthy, but by kickoff on Thursday night, WR/RB Percy Harvin said he'll be on the field and ready to play in Florida's BCS National Championship game against Oklahoma.

"I’ll probably say I’m about 90 percent,'' Harvin said. "I’ve had a few good days, and the last two days I’ve been out there running routes and running the ball and really getting back into it.''

Harvin suffered a high ankle sprain in the Nov. 29 Florida State game, and missed the SEC Championship game against Alabama because of it. He remained on campus during the Christmas break in order to put in extra work with the UF training staff to try and get ready for this week's game. He spent Christmas Day with his mother in Green Cove Springs, then returned to campus.

"Every little bit I could do, I didn’t want to sit still and waste a week,'' he said of the decision to stay in Gainesville. "I didn’t want to get here and think what if I had stayed last week would I be feeling better? So I just wanted to make sure I was covering everything and make sure I was good once I got down here.''

Harvin, who has been hampered by injuries all through his Gator career, said because he's been hurt so often, 90 percent is about what he's been playing at most of the time. The ankle gets sore after practice, but icing for 10 minutes seems to easy the pain, he said.

Harvin has not had any contact in practice, but said he's not concerned about that.

I"’ve been doing a lot of team work, just getting back to catching pitches and catching the ball from Tim (Tebow),'' he said. "It’s feeling pretty good and I should be ready for the game.''

Glad to hear Harvin is nearing 100%.

Haven't heard anything about Chris Rainey, who was also injured late in the season. Any word on his availability?

Rainey has been practicing at full speed and is expected to play.

I sure am glad that Harvin was able to play tonight. He lit it up out there. The guy has blazing speed. I was glad to see him recover from the cheap play after his tackle.
