Bulldogs hoping off week will be an advantage

When Georgia and Florida meet on Saturday afternoon, the Bulldogs will have the potential advantage of having a week off to rest before facing the Gators.

"Having a bye week is huge,'' Georgia LB Rennie Curran said. "It's very crucial. You are able to get in the weight room, you're able to get in the film room, you get to study your opponent. You get to work on all those details that you normally wouldn't during the season because you're so busy.''

Georgia coach Mark Richt is 11-3 when coming off a bye week, 1-0 against the Gators. Georgia had a bye week before its 2007 when No. 20 Georgia upset No. 9 Florida 42-30.

"It's always nice to have a break no doubt about it,'' Richt said. "You hope you can turn that into a positive for your football team, but there's just no guarantee of that.''

Georgia quarterback Joe Cox said last week was important in giving Georgia extra time to get ready for Florida.

"It helps for any week but the best part about it happening for this week is because you have more time to prepare,'' Cox said. "They are an outstanding team and we needed time to watch them on film and try to get as good a feel for them as we possibly could. I'm glad we had the off week, not only to rest our legs but to get some extra studying in."
