But two weeks after he seemed to be in strong command of the Scripps Howard Heisman poll, Tebow fell to No. 5 in the poll this week. Alabama running back Mark Ingram took over the poll's top spot.
Tebow was the leader of all five previous polls this season, but this week suffered a voter backlash. He had two interceptions returned for touchdowns against Mississippi State, which led to his drop from first to fifth place.
Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen moved up a spot to second, Houston QB Case Keenum and Texas QB Colt McCoy also moved up to third and fourth, respectively.
Ingram is trying to become the first Alabama player to win the Heisman Trophy award.
Voting tabulations are made on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis, with five points for a first-place vote, four points for second, etc. First-place votes are in parentheses. Ingram received 30 points, Clausen got 23, Keenum earned 22, McCoy got 20 and Tebow received 19.
The Scripps poll, compiled by the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, is the longest running weekly Heisman watch. It has picked 17 of the previous 21 winners correctly.
But while the poll's voters weren't high on Tebow this week, Danielson, who will call Saturday's game against Georgia, still believes Tebow's the frontrunner.
"It’s still Tim Tebow’s Heisman to lose,'' he said. "He is in the driver’s seat. Of course he has to do something, but he is going to get the visibility to do it. Anybody who votes for the Heisman before Championship Saturday is over, with Tebow, Mark Ingram and Colt McCoy potentially playing in their championship on December 5th, their votes really shouldn’t count. You have to see what they are going to do in the Championship games before you vote this year.''
