Kevin Costner has curious taste in gig selection
In a gig that we can only assume was first proposed by the writers of The Onion, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays have announced that Kevin Costner's band Modern West will perform at Straub Park in downtown St. Pete on Nov. 8 to help celebrate the launch of the Rays' new name, colors, uniforms and logo. The free concert will take place at 6:30 p.m., following a "fashion show" in which Joe Maddon, Wade Boggs and Fred McGriff will model the new unis. The festivities will continue at Gaslight Park in Tampa the next day, though Costner won't be on hand there. If you're not familiar with Modern West, please allow us to enlighten you. They sound like a cross between John Mellencamp and the Wallflowers, and the songs on their MySpace page honestly aren't all that bad. (Which sucks for us; it would be a lot easier to be snarky about this if they sounded like Russell Crowe's 30 Odd Foot of Grunts.) Maybe a performance by Crash Davis/Ray Kinsella/Billy Chapel will be the extra jolt the Rays need to finally crack that elusive 71-win barrier. If not, they can always always call in Bruce Willis and the Accelerators.

Went and say the concert. I had no idea he could sing! The concert was awesome... he explained what the songs meant to him, had a lot of interaction with the crowd. Very impressed with the band!!!

We went to see Kevin Costner's band perform on 2 different ocassions. My husband and I are huge Costner fans. Believe me the best part of the show will be the 'free' part. He should definitely stick to acting!
