Brad Pitt needs money to rebuild New Orleans
What’s Brad Pitt so excited about? It’s the $5-million he’s pledged to build at least 150 new, environmentally friendly homes in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward by the end of next summer, the AP reports.
“I’ve always had a fondness for this place — it’s like no other,” he said. “Seeing the frustration firsthand made me want to return the kindness this city has shown me.”
Pitt has teamed up with 13 architects for the Make It Right project, which aims to design homes on stilts to keep floodwaters at bay. Pitt said the design requirements are “affordability, sustainability, safety — and that they be beautiful.”
But Monday’s press conference (with a windblown Angelina Jolie and Maddox nearby) was more fund-raiser than festival. “I mean, this is really an adopt-a-house campaign,” he said. “I’m asking for foundations, for high net-worth individuals, for church groups, for corporations to come in and adopt a house — basically, $150,000 will get a family back in their home.”
Why don’t they ask Leona Helmsley’s dog?
