Old guy update: Cosby, McCartney & Clooney

Tbdgeorgeclooney020108Bill Cosby is working on a cleaned-up hip-hop album that will focus on issues like parenting, teen pregnancy, drug abuse, crime an education, AllHipHop.com reports. You mean those problems can’t be solved by serving chocolate cake for breakfast?

Paul McCartney is denying reports he has an angioplasty last year, calling media reports “entirely untrue,” Reuters reports. That part about hating Heather Mills? That was true.

George Clooney officially accepted his previously announced role as a U.N. messenger of peace Thursday with a ceremony in New York, the AP says. We doubt he'll head to Darfur to shoot scenes for Ocean’s 14.

Madonna makes $10 million on Super Bowl ad

Tbdmadonna020108 Yesterday we reported that Madonna was the richest woman in all the musical land. Today we report that the trend continues with Madge getting $10 million to appear in a Super Bowl commercial.

E! Online says the singer and all-around rich girl will be in an ad campaign for Sunsilk hair-care products, including a fourth-quarter spot on Sunday. The killer part? It’s not even new footage. The 30-second spot features stock images of Madonna, Shakira and Marilyn Monroe in a montage that features her tune Ray of Light.

Her representative, Liz Rosenberg, was surprisingly silent about the issue. “I have not seen the commercial nor do I have any information on the financial part of the deal,” she told E! News. Except the part where she gets a cut, that is.

Justin Timberlake's Super Bowl commercial

We're so glad to be a part of a generation that genuinely considers TV commercials to be entertainment. It helps that by our late 20s, we're so desensitized to advertising that we can't even tell you for sure what was being sold here.

In any case, here's a look at Justin Timberlake's Super Bowl commercial for ... uh ... something or other. Sorry if we spoiled it for you, but that's the risk you run clicking on The Juice*.

'ET,' 'Insider' back off Heath Ledger drug tape

Tbdheathledger020108 While we cross our fingers and wait to hear that Heath Ledger’s toxicology tests prove his death was only a tragic accident, Entertainment Tonight and The Insider have been trying to cash in on a grainy video taken more than two years ago showing the actor bumping rails at the Chateau Marmont and admitting to (gasp) smoking weed.

The shows reportedly spent $200,000 to obtain the tape, but the New York Daily News says the show has backed off from airing the video after pressure from Hollywood hotshots — because they can’t be trusted to rely on good taste, after all.

On the tape, shot Jan. 26, 2006, Ledger tells his pals, “I’m going to get serious s--- from my girlfriend (Michelle Williams). We just had a baby three months ago.” He also offers: “I used to smoke five joints a day for 20 years.” Wow, since he was six? That would put him on par with most of Southern California’s teenagers, we’d think.

But again, we fail to see how a video from 2006 says much of anything, since Ledger long ago admitted fighting drug addiction. Not every media outlet can be as scrupulous as The Juice*, we suppose.

'The Montel Williams Show' is going off the air

Tbdmontelwilliams020108 Seventeen years ago, The Montel Williams Show arrived on the air to bring us such pressing stories as people being hypnotized in supermarkets and a medium channeling voices from beyond the grave (remember that old chestnut?). But the AP reports that CBS Television Distribution has announced it will no longer produce new episodes of the show.

“I can’t say thank you enough to those who’ve welcomed me into their homes for the past 17 years,” the 51-year-old talk show host said. “It has been both an honor and a joy.” CBS said it will give syndicated stations a year’s worth of Best of Montel episodes, but after that it’s all over. At least he still has his 1996 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host.

Britney Spears taken away to mental hospital

Updated 5:36 p.m.: Citizens of Los Angeles are no doubt happy to hear a police motorcade that included nearly a dozen motorcycles, two cruisers and a pair of ghetto birds escorted young Britney Spears to UCLA Medical Center to "get help" early Thursday, the L.A. Times reports.

Yes, once again those of us in the Eastern time zone fall victim to the whims of La-La Land's denizens, as Spears was taken from her home around 12:55 a.m. Cali time, meaning we were at home having nightmares about Amendment 1 about then.

The North Hollywood P.D. sent about eight cops (who referred to her as "the package") --- including plainclothes officers, motorcycle cops, ambulance crews and police "brass," a source told the paper -- to her Studio City home, apparently to prevent a media spectacle by causing one. She was taken away for a 5150 "mental evaluation hold," her second since the infamous Jan. 3 incident that also involved more than a few constables.

The 5150 puts her in the hospital for up to 72 hours because she presents a danger to herself and others. The stay can be extended up to 14 days. Spears' lawyers, Anne Kiley and Tara Scott, had gotten Britney a new psychiatrist last week, TMZ says.

The scene inside the house is speculation at this point, but People quotes a source in the family as saying the judge-signed order was brought about because of Spears' erratic behavior that night.

"She was driving around her neighborhood like a mad-woman," the source says. "Britney has been prescribed medication which she refuses to take. This is just another sad, sad evening."

Apparently there's been some fighting between parents Jamie and Lynne Spears and Sam Lutfi over who is in control of Brit's medical treatment. TMZ reports there was an argument at the house among Lutfi, Lynne and Brit over getting the singer psychiatric help.

Britney, who reportedly hadn't slept since Saturday, allegedy told everyone to "shut up" and said, "I'll do what I need to do." She then passed notes to Lutfi, Adnan Ghalib and others until paramedics arrived.

Tbdbritneyspears020108 The site also says she wasn't hysterical in the least; When her new psychiatrist told her she was going to the hospital, she simply said, "Is something wrong?" She allegedly made hot chocolate and waited quietly.

Things apparently weren't too quiet once she got to the hospital, thought. TMZ says after Britney checked in under an alias, it was noted that she was on Adderall, a drug to treat ADHD, and has been taking 10 laxatives a day, presumably to lose weight. Ew. She also was apparently screaming and swearing at her parents and staff, and accused her mother of "sleeping with my boyfriend," although who that is, is anyone's guess.

Coincidentally, TMZ says Justin Chambers, who plays Alex Karev on Grey's Anatomy, checked himself into the very same facility Monday because of exhaustion and a sleeping disorder. His rep says he went in voluntarily and left Wednesday.

Mama Lynne was seen leaving the hospital after 5:30 a.m. (photo above), a few hours after she responded to paparazzi questions about whether Britney was okay with a simple, "Yeah."

And with that, we break our Britney ban, dear readers. Glib as we may be, we hope the story has a happy ending.

A longer version of the insane waste of police resources is below:

Jolie for sale, Oprah for scale, Dog sets sail

Angelina Jolie remains coy about whether she’s pregnant or not, with Us magazine saying she may sell the official confirmation to the highest bidder and give the money to charity. But Ange, honey, you see, every gossip glossy out there is already saying you are, so who cares?

• Artist Daniel Edwards, famous for his sculptures of Britney Spears giving birth and a certain hotel heiress being autopsied, has created a bronze sculpture of a “curvaceous and robust” Oprah Winfrey called “The Oprah Sarcophagus,” TMZ reports. It’s no Skinny Elvis stamp, that’s for sure.

• And finally, Duane “Dog” Chapman is free from extradition efforts after a three-judge panel in Mexico ruled criminal charges for bounty hunting can’t be reinstated against him, the AP reports. If only he could get his TV show back on the air ...

Madonna is the richest woman in music biz

Tbdmadonna013108 As no great surprise, Forbes has named Madonna the richest woman in music, with the Material Mom earning $72 million between June 2006 and 2007.

Barbra Streisand was a distant second with $60 million, Celine Dion third with $45 million, Shakira took fourth with $38 million and Beyonce Knowles placed fifth with $27 million.

Rounding out the top 10 are Gwen Stefani ($26 million), Christina Aguilera ($20 million), Faith Hill ($19 million), the Dixie Chicks ($18 million —but that’s cheating because there are three of them) and Mariah Carey ($13 million).

Our dear Britney Spears is all the way at 14th with $8 million, making a killing off royalties and her fragrance line (but wait until she turns in her expense report for Wellbutrin and Cheetos).

Tyra Banks has new show, readies 10th 'ANTM'

Tbdtopmodel013108 Longtime readers of The Juice* know we’re big fans of America’s Next Top Model, a show that thrusts emotionally stunted post-teen girls into a pressure cooker of stress, spectacle and emotional isolation, then broadcasts it for everyone to gawk at.

But the Hollywood Reporter says ANTM host Tyra Banks is working on a new show described as The Devil Wears Prada meets The Apprentice.

“It is a competition show about aspiring assistants looking to become assistant editors at a fashion magazine,” ANTM co-producer Ken Mok says. “At the same time they’re trying to prove themselves as aspiring fashionistas, that they have a sense of style and savvyness, all the things to make it in the fashion world.”

The untitled show, which will begin an eight-episode production in April, will feature contestants trying to produce pages for an elimination device called “The Book.” In each episode, one winner’s page will be kept in The Book, while a loser will be eliminated. The overall winner gets a job in the fashion industry (hopefully something better than Meryl Streep’s secretary).

Meanwhile, cycle 10 of ANTM starts Feb. 20 and features two Floridians — 22-year-old Stacy Ann from Miami (third from right in the photo above), and 20-year-old Whitney from Atlantic Beach (second from right). Oh, and supermodel Paulina Porizkova joins the panel to ruin even more self-esteem than usual.

Bart Simpson gave $10 million to Scientology

Tbdnancycartwright013108 If you think Tom Cruise is the biggest supporter of Scientology, you’ll be surprised to learn that Bart Simpson has that market cornered.

PageSix.com says 50-year-old Nancy Cartwright, who has voiced the cartoon character for eleventy billion years, donated $10 million to the church last year, twice as much as Cruise, who gave $2.5 million in 2004 and another $2.5 million two years later.

Kirstie Alley matched that ante, but Ocala residents John Travolta and Kelly Preston could apparently only manage $1 million each. Hey, jet fuel is expensive these days. Throwing in a mere $50k was Priscilla Presley.

Wondering how Cartwright managed that $10 million sum? Well, she reportedly makes $250k per episode of The Simpsons, and with 22 episodes that equals a yearly salary of $5.5 million. She must have been saving her pennies.

Tila Tequila begins shooting new 'Shot at Love'

Tila Tequila may have struck out at love during A Shot at Love, but Cupid (and Nielsen) beckon one more time. Celeblog A Socialite's Life says the MySpace queen was slated to start shooting on a second season today, and this video pretty much proves it.

Tila yaps on and on about all the ultra-trashy clothes she's going to wear, embarrasses her stylist and plays up the gender confusion just a teensy bit. Throw in some extensions, push-up bras and a complete denial she even knows who last season's winner Bobby Barnhart is, and away we go!

One question: If they're shooting in California (where the term "cold" is relative), and the show will air this summer, why does she have to pretend it's warm out when selecting a wardrobe? Are her viewers such mouth-breathers they don't understand the concept of tape delay?

Video: Julian Schnabel hates Sean Young

Surely you’re bursting from anticipation wondering what exactly happened at Saturday’s Director’s Guild of America awards that prompted actress Sean Young to check into rehab for alcohol abuse. That’s why we have video of the event, courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter.

In it, Julian Schnabel walks onstage to accept his award for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and collects his thoughts. Young can be heard yelling “Get on with it!”, to which Schnabel responds “Who said that to me?” Upon seeing Young, he says, “Have another cocktail,” before she shouts something else.

Variety says security tried to grab Sean, who then tried to punch the people coming to get her. Obviously upset, Schnabel says, “Perhaps you’d like to finish my speech, darling. Thank you,” and leaves the stage.

What we’re trying to figure out is why anyone would invite Young to anything after that whole episode in which she showed up at Tim Burton’s place wearing a Catwoman outfit, trying to be cast in Batman Returns.

Tom Cruise gets first $72k Ducati superbike

Desmosedici_2 As if millions of dollars, Katie Holmes and (according to the Church of Scientology) control over the minds of millions weren’t enough toys, Tom Cruise is getting his hands on a choice motorcycle courtesy of Italian company Ducati.

The brand-new, 200 hp, 200 mph Desmosedici RR, based on the manufacturer’s Moto GP bike (think Formula 1 for motorcycles), is headed to Beverly Hills Ducati this week, the AP reports. Only 1,500 of the trademark red-and-white superbikes are being made, and Tommy Gun gets the very first one.

“We are delighted to be able to deliver the world’s first production unit here in the USA to Tom Cruise, who is a well-known Ducati enthusiast,” said Michael Lock, chief of Cupertino-based Ducati North America.

The rest of you better have put your $72,500 down for the magnesium, titanium and carbon fiber beauty, or else you’ll just be reading about it in magazines like The Juice* does.

Hayden Panattiere still wants to save whales

Tbdhaydenpanattiere013008 Heroes actress Hayden Panattiere has doffed the cheesy "Save the Whales" tees in favor of dressing like a grownup and hanging out with folks like Rep. Nick Rahall (D., W. Va.) to get her point across. Here she's arriving with the congressman at a D.C. press conference to speak against commercial whaling, John Kerry and other politicos were there, but who cares? Hayden was obviously the crowd favorite.

Young in rehab, 'Joe' notes, Brown's hearing

• Actress Sean Young, who took a luxury-class ticket on the crazy train in the 1980s after some cinematic success, has entered rehab for alcohol abuse after heckling The Diving Bell and the Butterfly director Julian Schnabel at the Directors Guild of America awards on Saturday, the AP reports. Let’s just hope Deckard from Blade Runner doesn’t come after her next.

• In G.I. Joe casting news, Channing Tatum — who has a ton of flicks in the can but until now is most recognizable in She’s the Man — has been tapped to play Duke, while Dennis Quaid fills the role of General Hawk and Arnold Vosloo (Imhotep from The Mummy series) will try on Zartan, Variety reports. Can you guess which of these three The Juice* thinks doesn’t make the cut?

• A New York judge has denied Foxy Brown’s request to be let out of jail so she can travel to California to have a hearing problem examined, the AP says. If she was really trying to sell her story, she would have told the judge, “What?”

Here's a look at Paula Abdul's new video

Really, how many people want to see Paula Abdul resurrect her recording career? Sure, the Straight Up days were a lot of fun, but we've moved on. Besides MC Skat Kat just doesn't do it for us anymore.

But Extra featured a behind the scenes look at Dance Like There's No Tomorrow, her new song and video produced by American Idol cohort Randy Jackson. (We're beginning to wonder if Randy is capable of ever buttoning his shirt.)

Why come back now, Paula? "If anything, just to bother Simon," she said, referring to Simon Cowell, who was nonplussed he had a teensy part in the video.

Of course, the whole segment is merely a commercial for Fox's Super Bowl pregame show, when they threaten to unleash the demon's call that is the entire video on an unwitting populace.

It's Music Monday! (on Tuesday): Feist's latest

We didn't get to post a Music Monday selection yesterday, but here's the latest from Feist, I Feel It All. More videos should be one-takes. Imagine the hilarity that would ensue!

James Gandolfini gives fan the thrill of his life

Imagine you’d just flown into the local airport on your way home and immediately had some nutjob with dark glasses oozing all over you about some report you’d filed or memo you’d written or drywall you’d put up sometime in the last few years. Annoying, right?

Well, James Gandolfini thought the same thing about some idiot who orbited the actor like the Hubble telescope after his flight came into JFK Monday night. TMZ has video of the 46-year-old Sopranos star pushing the fan away by his face, then going all mafioso, grabbing the man by his collar and no doubt making him wet his pants.

It’s all good though; Gandolfini realized he may have overreacted to the swarm of irritation and posed for a photo with the doofus. Who says he can’t be reasoned with?

Nigella Lawson doesn't believe in inheritances

Tbdnigellalawson013008 In keeping with today British theme, celeb chef Nigella Lawson is causing a row across the pond because she is popping off about not wanting to leave her children any inheritance.

The Daily Mail says that while Lawson and her marketing maven hubby Charles Saatchi have an estimated wealth of about $220 million (about $30 mil of which is hers alone), her kids won’t see a thin farthing.

The 48-year-old has two children — daughter Cosima, 13, and son Bruno, 11, — from her marriage to journalist John Diamond, while 64-year-old Saatchi as a 12-year-old daughter, Phoebe, from his first marriage.

But Lawson told My Weekly magazine that she wants her kids to learn one thing from her: “To know that I am working and that you have to work in order to earn money. I am determined that my children should have no financial security. It ruins people not having to earn money. I argue with my husband Charles, because he believes that you should be able to leave money to your children. I think we’ll have to agree to disagree.”

Better start putting some effort into those handmade Mothering Sunday cards, kids.

Victoria Beckham gets naked for Marc Jacobs

Tbdvictoriabeckham013008_2 Not to be outdone by her husband David’s racy underwear ad for Armani, Victoria Beckham has taken it all off for Marc Jacobs, London’s Daily Mail reports.

Posh has posed nude for a t-shirt campaign to raise awareness about skin cancer, with Vicki covering up her naughty bits (or “her modesty,” as the Brits say) with her hands with a slogan that reads “Protect the skin you’re in.”

Victoria says her attitude to skin care has changed since she moved to L.A., no doubt because she’s seen so many leathery Beverly Hills types.

“I have realized how important it is to practice safe sun for myself and to keep the skin of my three boys well-protected as well,” says the constantly fake-baked mascot.

The word about “safe sun” will support the Interdisciplinary Melanoma Cooperative Group. And here we thought Becks wore long-sleeved jerseys because of his tattoos.

Gwen Stefani pregnant with second child

Tbdgwenstefani013008 Gwen Stefani will be taking some time off her clothing line, perfume-selling and HP commercials to gestate a second child, the U.K.’s Sun swears. The 38-year-old singer has confirmed she is 13 weeks along with husband Gavin Rossdale’s child, the paper says.

“They found out at California’s Cedars-Sinai hospital and couldn’t wait to share the news with everyone,” a source tells the tabloid. That’s funny, because just last week her rep was denying pregnancy rumors.

We understand that’s normal until the first trimester is over, but our favorite Orange County girl is just playing with our emotions at this point.

"They and the whole family are delighted," Gavin's pop Douglas told People. And in case you're wondering, her son, Kingston, will turn 2 in May.

Good or bad?: New Kids on the Block returns

Tbdnewkidsontheblock012908 Taking the idea that they’re Hangin’ Tough a little too seriously, the New Kids on the Block are indeed staging a comeback, People reports. Buy your canned food and shotguns now.

The group’s Web site is back up with a mailing list being offered for info on the band.

But what was scary for The Juice* was the revelation that Jonathan Knight, who is a real estate developer these days, is going to be 40 this year. That makes him the oldest among actors Donnie Wahlberg (38) and Joey McIntyre (35), music producer Danny Wood (38) and Knight’s brother Jordan (37), who has kept at the recording business all these years.

Now excuse us while we try to talk Mrs. Juice out of cutting her hair into bangs, tight-rolling her jeans and getting a Hypercolor t-shirt.

Wu-Tang Clan does Italian in St. Petersburg

Tbdwutangclan012908 The Wu-Tang Clan may not have been able to perform for their show last Saturday at Jannus Landing, but that didn’t keep members of the group from getting a bite at St. Pete eatery Bella Brava.

A source tells The Juice* that members of the group hit the joint around 4 p.m. Monday. Their concert was cut short when they were apparently more than 90 minutes late; several fights allegedly broke out before the Wu hit the stage.

St. Pete’s finest apparently closed things down after a few numbers, however, because the show may have been running late and would violate noise ordinances. St. Pete police wouldn’t confirm the shenanigans, of course, and our source couldn’t confirm whether they ordered anything with C.R.E.A.M. on it.

Police don't want to talk to Mary-Kate Olsen

Tbdmarykateolsen012908 The NYPD are officially not going to question Mary-Kate Olsen in the death of Heath Ledger, despite gossipy news outlets from all over trying to make the whole affair sound sinister, the AP reports.

“There’s absolutely no indication investigators were going to speak to Mary-Kate Olsen,” police Commissioner Ray Kelly said at a press conference. “They determined that they had all the info needed from witnesses who were on scene: That’s the cleaning woman, the masseuse.”

The New York Post continues to try to make a mountain out of a molehill by speculating there is some crazy reason why masseuse Diane Lee Wolozin called Olsen once without getting through, then talking to her for 99 seconds during a second call, and finally calling her a third time before dialing 911.

Gee, there could be several legitimate reasons — Olsen has Sprint as her wireless carrier? She was out of anytime minutes? She was at another boyfriends house and didn’t want to talk to Heath at the moment? — so we’ll put this sad saga to bed for now, until the toxicology reports come back.

All the vain people love Jessica Biel's body

Tbdjessicabielcompb012908 Who’s the celebrity women most want to look like? A couple plastic surgeons say Jessica Biel is tops on their patients’ lists of bodies they’d like to double.

The U.K.’s Daily Telegraph says Richard Fleming and Toby Mayer of the Beverly Hills Institute of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery cite Biel’s bod, Angelina Jolie’s kisser and Katie Holmes' eyes as the top requests among plastic surgery patients.

“Our patients continue to turn to Hollywood to raise their standard of beauty,” Fleming said. “Our patients want to look rested, energetic and, most of all, youthful like the celebrities they see in glossy magazines.” (In case you wondered why, exactly, people got plastic surgery.)

The paper says Katherine Heigl’s nose (wha?) and Keira Knightley’s cheeks (but not her jawline, apparently) also top the list. Click on the photo to see the Frankenstein's monster this creation makes.

Big for fussy guys with misplaced priorities: David Beckham’s rippling body, George Clooney’s cheeks and Daniel Craig’s eyes, which still won’t help them be as bad-ass as 007.

Angelina Jolie wears loose dress to SAG Awards

Tbdbrangelina012908_2 Rumors are running rampant after last Thursday’s report by X17online.com that Angelina Jolie is once again pregnant — with twins! — and her appearance with Brad Pitt at Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards sure didn’t help. Instead of the usual close-fitting gown most celebs wore, Angie opted for a long, flowy vintage Hermès dress that would hide any tell-tale baby bumps.

“She is glowing,” a source told Us. “In great spirits and totally beaming.” Jolie was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role in A Mighty Heart, but didn’t win. She’ll just have to let her four current children cheer her up.

Heath Ledger's new 'Dark Knight' trailer

We're getting a late start today, but thanks to the enterprising work of bootleggers who actually paid money to see I Am Legend in Imax over the weekend, we have the new six-minute trailer for The Dark Knight, featuring Heath Ledger as the Joker. Hold on to your seats, because the low quality makes it pretty hard to see, no matter how cool it looks.

Anonymous declare war on Scientology

An Internet hacker group known only as Anonymous on Friday posted YouTube videos and carpet-bombed e-mail accounts with a message that they are declaring war on Scientology. We're sure the folks in Clearwater are quaking in their khakis over that one.

The straw that broke the thetan’s back is apparently the recent round of videos showing Tom Cruise accepting a Scientology award and explaining the group’s values and ideals. The Church of Scientology has made copyright claims against the video, but plenty of obstinant Internetters have kept it going.

The legal action threatened by the church sparked the Anonymous threats, U.K. technology Web site Vnunet.com says.

“Project Chanology was coined as a description of the ‘covert’ plan, the main goal of which is to enlighten the Church of Scientology by any means necessary, “ Anonymous stated on its Web site. Those means apparently include waging a server-disruption campaign, hacking into the Church of Scientology’s servers and spamming them to the point of seizure.

"With the leakage of your latest propaganda video into mainstream circulation, the extent of your malign influence over those who trust you, who call you leader, has been made clear to us," the digitally generated voice on the first video (above) says. "Anonymous has therefore decided that your organization should be destroyed."

The video goes on to detail how this group will go about this, claiming, "We are your SPs. Gradually as we merge our pulse with that of your 'church,' the suppression of your followers will become increasingly difficult to maintain. Believers will wake, and see that salvation has no price." Well, besides having to watch silly YouTube videos like this one.

Finally, it ends with the message, "Knowledge is free. We are Anonymous. We are legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us." Yeah, we'll expect you at Game Stop when the next Call of Duty expansion pack comes out.

And then, as if Anonymous read our minds, they posted another clip that explains who they are (shown below) and what their mission statement is. The same computer voice rambles about the Sea Org, the use of child labor, Operation Snow White, how big their group is and that Scientologists should watch out for Feb. 10 at 11 a.m.

In the meantime, we'll make popcorn to munch during the upcoming fight.

Mary-Kate Olsen, Heath Ledger's family speak

Tbdheathledger012808jpg After blaring headlines from the New York Post and others declaring police were prepared to grill Mary-Kate Olsen over a series of phone calls made to her the day Heath Ledger died, police denied the claim, the AP says.

The tabloid had reported the NYPD wanted to know exactly why masseuse Diane Lee Wolozin, who found the actor unconscious in his bedroom Tuesday, called Olsen three times before dialing 911 for help, then again after making the emergency call. That’s just so much bunk, as cops said Olsen was not wanted for questioning.

The 24-year-old actress broke her silence on the event today, the same day a private viewing of Ledger was scheduled at the Frank E. Campbell funeral home in Manhattan. The media was not invited.

“Heath was a friend. His death is a tragic loss,” she said in a statement. “My thoughts are with his family during this very difficult time.” Rumors abound in several glossies that Olsen and Ledger had been dating for the last three months, but not exclusively.

“There is a private memorial service today and I also understand that there will be a public memorial service in Los Angeles later this week,” Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith told the media Friday. Concerning whether Ledger’s body would be sent back to Australia for burial, he said, “This is a matter for the family to decide. Whatever decision they take Australia stands ready to help them.”

Before leaving for New York, Ledger’s family placed a death notice in The West Australian.

“As a close knit and very private family we have observed you so determined yet quietly travelling in your self-styled path in life, nothing would get in your way ... no mountain too tall, no river too wide,” read the notice, which was published today.

“You dreamed your dreams and lived them with passion and intelligent commitment. We have been privileged to accompany you on a ride through life that has simply been amazing and through it all we have loved each other beyond imagination. Our hearts are broken.”

Ali Campbell leaves UB40 after three decades

Tbdalicampbell012808 Ali Campbell, lead singer of British reggae giants UB40, has quit the band after almost 30 years, the AP reports. While the 48-year-old said on his Web site that “management difficulties, which have been ongoing for almost five years, had become intolerable,” his seven bandmates (including brother Robin) have said he left for other reasons.

Campbell “has taken the decision to focus on his solo career and in doing so, could not give his full commitment to UB40,” their statement read. “The other band members of UB40 are naturally disappointed and saddened after being together as a band unit and as good friends for almost 30 years.”

The group’s upcoming album, 24/7, will be released in May as planned, but no word if it will contain any more Neil Diamond or Elvis Presley covers.

Judge busts lawyer for Heidi Montag mag

Tbdheidimontag012808_3 Heidi Montag’s image on the cover of Maxim made a judge in Salisbury, N.C., pretty steamed on Wednesday, prompting the official to find a lawyer in contempt for reading smut in the courtroom.

Rowan County District Court Judge Kevin Eddinger threw the book at local attorney Todd Paris for looking at the mag, which Eddinger described as featuring “a female topless model” on the cover, the Salisbury Post reports. (Maxim, of course, doesn't show actual nudity, much like we suspect North Carolina doesn't feature actual courts.)

Despite insisting the lad mag wasn’t pornography and saying he meant no harm, Paris was fined $300, given a 15-day suspended jail sentence and was put on unsupervised probation for one year. And that’s just further proof of the harm plastic surgery can do.

Teen wanted to crash plane on Miley Cyrus

Tbdmileycyrus012808 A confused teenager from northern California was arrested by the FBI after planning to crash a flight from L.A. into a Miley Cyrus concert, TMZ reports.

The site says a mystery 16-year-old had smuggled handcuffs, duct tape, rope and “other items” on a flight last Tuesday that he was planning to hijack and fly into a stadium in Lafayette, La.

“He had some general plans where he was going and indicated where he wanted to die,” an FBI spokesman told TMZ. One problem (just one?) with the obviously troubled youth’s plan: The Hannah Montana concert was scheduled for today.

Scarlett Johansson's album coming out May 20

Tbdscarlettjohansson012808 Not to be outdone by the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Jennifer Love Hewitt, Scarlett Johansson will be releasing her debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, on May 20, People reports.

As previously reported by The Juice*, the 23-year-old spent a whole five weeks recording her 10 covers of Tom Waits songs — and has even thrown in an original track to prove she can do it.

She worked with producer David Sitek, Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zimmer and Celebration’s Sean Atanaitis, the magazine said. No words on how many gallons of coffee and cartons of cigarettes she had to suck down to get her voice gruff enough to sing that stuff.

Angelina Jolie might be pregnant with twins

Tbdangelinajolie012508_3 It’s Friday, so it must be time to start pregnancy rumors about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Star has “confirmed” the pouty lipped goddess of glamor has not one but TWO buns in the oven, according to the source.

The evidence the magazine cites for this? The 32-year-old was looking much healthier during her Jan. 7 appearance at the Critics’ Choice awards (right), and while Brad downed some brewskis, Angie stuck with good ol’ hydrogen hydroxide (that’d be water).

This would bring their brood to a total of six, and almost evens out the adoptees and biologicals. “Brad and Angelina are absolutely ecstatic,” another source says. “But I still think there will be more adoptions to come.”

The Juice* says goodbye to Heath Ledger

I'm not going to lie to you, dear readers -- Heath Ledger's death has me pretty bummed out. I could spend all day trying to round up details of the talented 28-year-old actor's funeral (which we'll update at some point), but we at The Juice* would rather bring you the good times, courtesy his movies ...

Long before roles as Casanova, Ennis Del Mar and the Joker came along, I first remember seeing him in 2000's The Patriot, acting and looking for all the world like Mel Gibson's son. In fact, I had a distinct feeling that he was one day going to be a big star.

Mrs. Juice*, of course, recalls him earlier as Patrick in 1999's 10 Things I Hate About You, a performance my little former high-school soccer player describes as awful, but says Heath was hot enough to make up for it. And really, how can you go wrong trying to win over Julia Stiles with a Frankie Valli song?

But 2001's A Knight's Tale, a delightfully anachronistic yarn that has enjoyed heavy rotation on TNT (and therefore, repeated viewings on the Juice* family television), somehow captures his essence as an actor: fun-loving, out of the ordinary and pretty enjoyable.

And to tell you the truth, David Bowie's Golden Years never sounded better than it does today.

Amy Winehouse is back in rehab. Again.

Okay, Juice*heads, this is the third day in a row we’ve mentioned “Amy Winehouse” and “rehab” in the same sentence, so let’s see if this latest report gets it right. Reuters says Universal Music Group released a statement insisting the 24-year-old has taken the plunge. “

Amy Winehouse’s planned appearance at the NRJ Awards in France on Saturday has been cancelled as the artist has entered a rehabilitation clinic,” the company said. “Amy decided to enter the facility today after talks with her record label, management, family and doctors. She has come to understand that she requires specialist treatment to continue her ongoing recovery from drug addiction and prepare for her planned appearance at the Grammy Awards.”

That would be on Feb. 10, so this is one rush job of rehab. Heck, Dr. Drew Pinsky has already told us on VH1 that people can die from withdrawal symptoms, so let’s not start counting crackheads before they’re hatched, yes?

Tori's pregnant, Miley's bikini, and 007's movie

Tori Spelling’s and Dean McDermott’s son Liam turns 1 on March 13, but InTouch Weekly says the pair are expecting another bundle of joy already. They must want to get another reality show picked up by a basic cable network.

• As if 15-year-old Miley Cyrus hasn’t courted enough scandal with those pics of her at a hotel with a female friend, the gossip blogs are buzzing with a leaked, eyebrow-raising photo she took of herself wearing a bikini. We’d link you to it, but we don’t want to be arrested.

Daniel Craig’s next James Bond flick is being titled Quantum of Solace, after a 1960 story by creator Ian Fleming, Variety reports. That’s the most forgettable title for a 007 movie since ... oh ... um ... you know, the one with that car and the guy with the suit ...

• Phormer Phish phrontman Trey Anastaso spent last weekend in an upstate New York jail for an unspecified violation of his drug treatment program, the AP reports. What better place to meet future drug connections?

This will make you feel pretty dumb

And to think, she's probably not even considered a gifted student in China.

Mary-Kate Olsen was called for Heath Ledger; actor used to do drugs with Naomi Campbell; London set of his latest film shut down

Tbdheathledger012508 There’s a reason why reports about Heath Ledger’s death initially said he was in Mary-Kate Olsen’s apartment — she was the first one contacted when his body was found.

The AP reports massage therapist Diana Wolozin picked up Ledger’s cell phone upon finding him unconscious and called Olsen because her number was programmed into his handset. Wolozin apparently knew Ledger and Olsen were friends (the New York tabloids say they were dating -- we thought he was seeing supermodel Helena Christensen), so she asked the twin for advice.

Olsen lives in Manhattan, but was in California at the time, so she send she would send over her private security guards to help. When Wolozin realized Ledger might be dead, she called Olsen back and then called 911.

Police are putting his time of death between 1 p.m. — when housekeeper Teresa Solomon arrived and let herself in with a key — and 2:45 p.m., when Wolozin arrived. Solomon told police she went to Ledger’s bedroom to change a light bulb but saw him sleeping and heard him snoring, so she left the room.

Further investigation has found that six different prescription drugs were found in the room, including pills to treat insomnia and anxiety and an antihistamine, the AP says. Three of the drugs were prescribed in Europe, where Ledger had been filming. Tests on a rolled-up $20 bill have come back negative for illegal drugs, proving it was, lo and behold, just a rolled-up $20 bill, despite a ContactMusic.com report that says Ledger used to do all sorts of drugs with Naomi Campbell.

Rebecca White, who was Campbell’s assistant for three years starting in 2001, tells the U.K.’s Sun that she regularly saw Ledger popping pills and snorting coke. “Heath asked Naomi if she had any cocaine — I used to carry it around for her — and I remember giving him the packet and he went off, back and forth throughout the night.”

At another event, “Naomi gave Heath a handful of these little blue pills and I remember him putting them all in his mouth at once and swigging a bottle of Cristal champagne.” White did say that Heath seemed to clean up his act after his daughter Matilda was born in 2005, though.

Funeral arrangements were made Thursday but details were not released. “The family doesn’t want us to give out any information,” said George Amado, the general manager of the Frank E. Campbell funeral home in Manhattan.

Meanwhile, the set of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Heath’s latest project, has been shut down, Us reports.

“I just got the call (Tuesday) saying everyone was being let go,” a source said. “We were supposed to start this weekend, but obviously they fired everyone (Wednesday). They don’t know yet what they are doing with the footage that was already shot.”

The shoot began in London in December, and Ledger was last photographed on set on Jan. 19.

Jessica Alba is scared of breastfeeding baby

Tbdjessicaalba012508 That Extra sure has its finger on the pulse of what celeb-watchers want — Jessica Alba’s breasts. The actress told the TV show that while she’s thrilled about the prospect of her baby with Cash Warren, she’s been dreaming about something that’s been bothering her.

“It had to do with breastfeeding, which is the only thing I’m paranoid about, more than giving birth,” she said. Alba said she’s worried about gaining weight from the pregnancy, and tries to eat as healthy as possible. “As long as I don’t’ gain too much to fast, that’s the key.”

But what’s the biggest change thus far? “Definitely a lot more emotions!” she said. “Anything could make me incredibly angry or break down crying, and that’s not something I’m used to.” And after watching her movies we can confirm that, no, emoting is not normally her strong suit.

Jamie Lynn Spears is (sorta) giving up her baby

Tbdjamielynnspears012508 In a turn that simultaneously fills us with equal measures joy and horror, Jamie Lynn Spears has decided she’s going to give up her baby after it’s born. Unfortunately, it’s for her mother Lynne to raise. What is this, Desperate Housewives?

Star says the 16-year-old will hand over the babe so Lynne can care for it in Kentwood, La., while Spears continues her career in Hollywood. What a message to send to the kids!

“After several weeks of personal soul searching and talks and discussions with her mum Jamie Lynn reluctantly agreed that giving up the baby is the right thing to do,” the ever-present anonymous source told the magazine. “Lynne says Jamie doesn’t understand the life long consequences of having a baby.”

So even though Jamie’s rep says the baby’s mama’s mama is not completely taking over the responsibilities, she will help out a lot. A lot.

“She still wants her daughter to be able to be a teenager, go to parties, hang out with friends and have a career,” Star’s source continues. “So she’ll take the front seat of caring for the baby and take the pressure off her daughter.”

And that, dear readers, is the kind of attitude that made her kids such screw-ups in the first place.

Uma Thurman enjoys (?) a Paris fashion show

Tbdumathurman012408 Uma Thurman and her ultra-rich financier boyfriend Arki Busson leave the Valentino fashion show at the Rodin Museum during Paris Fashion Week. We don't know what exactly she's so mad about, but we'd have to think if we were dating anyone whose job title was "financier," we'd deal with the media attention.

DEA arrests Lil Wayne for drugs in Arizona

Tbdlilwayne012408 Lil Wayne may be the next to look for a plea deal after he was arrested on felony drug charges Wednesday in Arizona, the AP reports.

Federal agents said they found illegal drugs including cocaine on his charter bus about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a checkpoint near Dateland in southwestern Arizona.

DEA agents found almost four ounces of weed, just over an ounce of cocaine and almost two ounces of X, along with drug paraphernalia. They also found a .40-caliber pistol registered to the rapper, who has a concealed weapons permit here in Florida.

The rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was being held at the Yuma County Sheriff’s jail on state drug charges. He appeared at a morning arraignment via video in Wellton, 35 miles east of Yuma.

Carter’s lawyer said his client was not formally charged and his next court date was scheduled for Jan. 25.

“We will find out by Jan. 25 whether or not the (Yuma) county attorney will file charges or not,” James Tilson said. His bond was set at $10,185. At least he has company: two of the 11 other people Lil Wayne was travelling with were arrested, too.

Lindsay Lohan defends that awful stripper flick

Tbdlindsaylohan012408 Lindsay Lohan isn’t too pleased she was left of the Oscar list while her bomb I Know Who Killed Me got her not one but two nods for this year’s Golden Raspberry Awards.

The U.K.’s Sun says the 21-year-old has been griping that the flick — in which she plays two characters that may or may not be related, we don’t know, because we couldn’t finish watching it — is some of her best work. Like, better than Herbie Fully Loaded.

I Know Who Killed Me was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life,” she said. “I’m playing a schizophrenic and that was so draining but I loved working with the director Chris Sivertson. I couldn’t believe the emotional range that he got out of me. I thought the role was too difficult for me but he helped me to give a performance I didn’t think I was capable of.”

We didn’t think you were capable of it either, Linds.

Amy Winehouse video under police scrutiny

Well, that trip to rehab Amy Winehouse took with her father Mitch on Tuesday lasted all of two hours, the Daily Mail reports. The paper says she spent a couple hours at the facility but didn’t check herself
