Patrick Dempsey opens cancer help center
Patrick Dempsey may play a doctor on TV, but he also knows to put his money where his heart is. Grey’s Anatomy’s McDreamy was in Lewiston, Maine, on Monday to dedicate the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at the Central Maine Medical Center, Portland’s WCSH-TV reports.
The center will help cancer patients and families get information and support, in addition to access to healing programs like massage therapy and yoga, the station said. The medical center is an important place for Dempsey, whose mother, Amanda, has been successfully treated for ovarian cancer there three times, and is a workplace for his sister, Mary.
“I think that it’s very important for anybody going through cancer treatment today is just to have a person there, so you’re not being treated like a number and that’s what we’re trying to achieve,” Dempsey said. For more information, check out www.dempseycenter.org.
