Sharon Stone: China earthquake was karma

We're still cleaning up the crumbs from Cannes, so we have to point out Sharon Stone's ridiculous comments over the long weekend about the earthquake in central China. A YouTube video shows Stone telling an interviewer that she thought karma was to blame for the deaths of more than 67,000 people.

"At first I’m not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans, because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else," Stone says when asked about the tragedy. "And then I’ve been concerned about, you know, how should we deal with the Olympics, because they’re not being nice to the Dalai Lama, who’s a good friend of mine. And then all this Earthquake and stuff happened and I thought 'Is that karma, when you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?' "

Hoo boy. But it's all good, because Sharon then said she got some good news.

"And then I got a letter from the Tibetan foundation, that they wanted to go and be helpful. And that made me cry," she said. “It was a big lesson to me that sometimes you have to learn to put your head down and be of service even to people who aren’t nice to you.”

Well hot dog, it's so nice she took a cue from her "good friend" and decided that maybe she should help people out instead of badmouthing politics at a swank red carpet event while people are suffering.

klai is everything he says about Sharon. I thought the exact same thing (karma) even before the earthquakes hit. You don't have to be a genius to know that EVERY ACTION HAS A REACTION. klai B***CH, get a life you moron. And let me know what kind of reaction you get for insulting nicer and harder working people than yourself.

klai

Basically this dumb b***h is just another washed up Hollywood has been who is trying to find some significance in her pitiful existance by hating anything China-related.
It's one thing to attack China's policies towards Tibet, it's another to rejoice over deaths of thousands of average citizens. This misguided washed up Hollywood s**t has an IQ of 140?
Somebody should slap this b***h in the head and get at least 10 of that 140 pt IQ to start working.

Elaine

You should think first before you open your big mouth. Whatever happened to you after you made this stupid comment to China earthquake, that is call 'KARMA'.

you are cool blood, and a woman who doesn't have brain...

Dalai Lying Lama

Sharon Stone's comment about Katrina.

News Reporter: Did you hear know about the typhoon in New Orleans?

Stone: Of cause I have. You know, it's very interesting about that since first, I'm not happy about the way USA treats the Iraqis because I think anyone should not be unkind to anyone else. And so I am being very concerned about the election of the next president of the US and A, because we had not being nice to Saddam Hussein, who is a good friend of mine. And Katrina typhoon ,and all the stuff happened, and I thought, is that Karma? When you’re not nice that the bad things happen. And then I got a letter from the Iraqi
Foundation that they want to go and be helpful. This made me cry. And they asked me if I will write a quote to that, and I said I would that it was a big lesson to me, that sometimes you have to learn to put your face down and be a dog to the person who aren't
nice to you. And that is a big lesson to me.

May 29 (Bloomberg) -- LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA, the world's largest luxury-goods maker, urged its model Sharon Stone to clarify remarks suggesting a May 12 earthquake may have been ``karma'' for China's policies on Tibet.

``If there is a possibility of putting things in the right perspective, coming from the heart, I think that is the best thing to do,'' Group Managing Director Antonio Belloni said at a luxury-goods conference in Tokyo today. The comments from Stone, who appears in advertisements for LVMH's Christian Dior cosmetics and perfumes, were ``unfortunate,'' he added.

``If she doesn't agree, I think we have to acknowledge she doesn't agree and detach us from her,'' Belloni said.

Shakarul

After the Sichuan earthquake incidence, I was worried that some senseless individuals might deploy the word “karma” to hit at China over the Tibetan issue. Unfortunately my worry came through; maybe by evil’s will, Sharon Stone was the chosen one to spell out such disastrous word.

I don’t have better words except “stupid” and “brainless” to relate her to this incidence. As a celebrity, Sharon Stone and others like Harrison Ford, Richard Gere, Julia Roberts, Adam Yauch and Alanis Morissette (please go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-SkymiejK0, you would witness how this bunch of actor/actress have foolishly involved themselves in anti-China campaign over Tibetan issue without actually knowing the true history of Tibet or perhaps they are just another good friends of Dalai Lama) should not associate themselves with any political/racial issues which might potentially hurt the feelings of their supporters.

Sharon Stone have just forgone estimated USD 60 millions by using the word “karma” against the Sichuan’s victims; this figure of course does not include her revenue generated from the Chinese communities all over the world in future.

Personally I wish to truthfully reveal that I love to watch “Indiana Jones” series ever since my childhood. Unfortunately due to silly anti-China exposure on the part of Harrison Ford, I have to painfully restrain myself from watching “The Legend of the Crystal Skull” which is currently on show in my country. I definitely would not watch anymore “Indiana Jones” series from now onwards. I don’t know much about Adam Yauch and Alanis Morissette, but I would definitely apply the same principle on Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. I have lost counts of times watching “Pretty Woman” in my lifetime, this show how much I am in fond of Richard Gere and Julia Roberts but this will be history and would never exist again.

Piece of advice to all Hollywood stars; please don’t be foolishly misled by others especially on issue which you are totally ignorant of. If you try to bombard China, you are going against 1.4 billions individuals worldwide. If you can earn USD 1/- from each and every Chinese individual, you would be billionaire overnight and you might be producer of your own kind in Hollywood instead of being an actor/actress.

Andy T

I don't know why she pick this topic to speak and cause such public relation problem. I agree she got the right of freedom to speak. But can she be a bit more polite and respect the death.

Karma is an overused, misunderstood word, and Sharon Stone is a rambling, politically underinformed person. While the human rights record of China is appalling, I do find it hard to believe that the earthquake victims, especially the children, must bear all the karmic blame. That is not my idea of a God, or of karmic destiny. Go sober up, Sharon.

Tom

OK, it was an idiotic quote. But I'm equally tired of the totalitarian regime in China taking "offense" whenever someone points out their abysmal human rights record. How about the kids who died in shoddily-built schools? How about the Tibetans arrested and detained because they were identified by state-sponsored security cameras? How about the journalists and political activists in jail? I suggest that the Chinese Government learn that, as the economy grows, truth will follow - and "being deeply offended" by the truth is a tact that will soon become as unbelievable as calling the Dali Lama a terrorist.

Sad

Wow, sad that most people really believe in the propaganda put out by a CIA-backed and NED-sponsored exiled Tibetan network and think in absolute black and white about Tibet and China...but to get to this vengeful hatred that would elicit such a "karma" comment, that is beyond the pale. The same have been said by pretty despicable people about other disasters, the 1755 Lisbon earthquake came to mind. At least in Europe, the earthquake precipitated the Enlightenment movement, whereas in America, we have the Endarkening movement. With all the recent news about Pentagon propaganda and Scott McClelland's tell-it-all memoirs, Americans still believe everything they're told, including the Yellow Peril represented by China.

SW

Blame it on she rehearsed this speech for too long. She knew that she would be asked this question. She prepared something to express her point of view. Then, she got so carried away with her own "brilliance" and forgot to put on a sympathetic face to accommodate the world. Only if she put on a sad face and her whole speech would interpret differently. The visual of her half-smile bothered people more than her words.

I don't believe she is so heartless that she never feel any sadness of this disaster. She may have expressed sorrow behind the camera. Too bad... Maybe she is just not suitable to be a public figure.

andrew

This is for Ano, who said "China has to look back at herself" and be friend to other countries.... Come on Ano, go read some history before you make any stupid comments...

China has never invade other countries. In early 20th century, France, Germany, UK, and 5 other Europen countries invaded China and killed many Chinese. They jointly occupied China, each of this country occupied a different section of China. Shanghai was invaded and occupied by France. During the occupation by these foreign European countries, 1000's of Chinese were killed by the Europeans, many Chinese women were raped by these occupied Europeans ( I must stress that these are the Europeans in the early 19th century, not the present day Europeans. And again, it was the ruling European regime at that time. Nowadays European countries are peace lovers and good global citizens. )

Same as Tibet, the reason China has to occupy Tibet was because throughout many many centuries, Tibet's ruling military regime always invaded China territory and destroyed many Chinese villages and Chinese life near Tibet's border. While China has tried for many many years to make peace with Tibet. The result was fruitless. To avoid further war between China and Tibet, and to avoid further loss of life in Tibet and in China, after many centuries of unsuccessful peaceful processes, China has little choice but to enter Tibet and removed the military aggressive regime and to guarantee the peace continue, China needed to continue has a presence in Tibet to ensure the small fraction but powerful aggressive regime won't resurrect. That's why China occupied Tibet, it was indeed to save lifes on both sides.

Many western medias love to portray China as a bad country, because many Westerners still cannot accept the notion that a once weak and helpless China has now become one of the super power in the world; and if Fortune magazine is right, China will become the number one economical super power in the world by 2015. Is that jealousy??

So Ano, before you make any uninformed judgement on the loss of life of Chinese, go get a lesson on history first.

Ano

Althought I'm so sorry about the earthquake in China. But in this case, China have to look back at herself. Maybe thousands death are for China Policy to other country. If the time can be turned back I hope China changed their policy to be a good friend to other country and I hope there would be no more disaster.

mikel

To Vanna: I truely respect your view on karma simply because everyone should have his or her own belief. But if you are implying that all 80,000 innocent people died in the China earthquake, or 3,000 hardworking young lives who got buried under the rubbles of the twin towers in 911. I doubt it.

johns

If that was karma,what's yours?
Waitting for ur karma;
Enjoy the Tea u brew urself;
Not just Chinese will never forgive u;
We won't forgive u neighter;
Good luck baby,show how brave u are;
Enjoy ur karma!!!

Virginia Smith

What cold hearted and self righteous comment!

The way she use the words like "doing kindness" or "not nice" is so emotionally detached from the violent situation those innocent farmers and their children that lost limbs and parents and lives? I believe it will do her good to volunteer at the earthquake zone to understand what human suffering means.

It was for her own interest that she apologised. Even money donation from her will not help her understand.

Until she is there, I don't believe she is truly sorry because she is ignorant of the situation.

Andrew

Stones >>>> Dalai >>>>> Karma >>>> Chinese

Dumb blondes said dumb things... what can you say...

Facts:
1) 25 ~ 30% of those who been killed in the China earthquake are from Tibet's... Sharon... do you still now call it "Karma"... U know what the heck is "Karma" ???

2) Yeh, Stones has been stoned by Dalai...Normal intelligent people will never said stupid things like that.

3) Stones may be tried to resurrect her ever diminishing career and attract public attention. But boy, did she really blew it, blew it BIG... Now no movie studio would have her star in any movies.. This will guarantee this movie will be shun out of the most profitable region in the world...namely, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and in places outside of China where Chinese people are living and making it their homes (by last count, I cannot identify any Country in the world that do not have Chinese living there....)

Good Luck Stones,.... you really need that. May be the only choice she has now is to marry a Chinese. Then, may be then, she will be forgiven by the Chinese. But then.... her Chinese husband would then become public Chinese enemy Number one.... oh boy... I need to get to sleep...

Eddie Clark

.....Whoever said evil things will have evil things happen to them......

That's what will happen to Sharon Stone and that's what will happen to whoever who's "on her side". Why? See below....

First...... Sharon Stone has now officially made herself a PUBLIC ENERMY of ALL Chinese in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France.... and in every corner in the world (there are more than 120 Billion Chinese worldwide)...

Numerous protests and movements around the world have already undertaken...
1) to boycott all present and future movies that have Sharon Stones involvement... that means all movie studios will guarantee her movie won't be shown in a LOTS of movie theaters around the world. Even if it does, it will be a public relation nightmare.... There will be protest on theaters showing her movies, there will be boycotts....

2) ALL Chinese will start to boycott any merchandise that are associated with Sharon Stones... Considering Chinese worldwide now have more disposable income than any other ethnic group. Any commercial brands will simply commit "commercial suicide" by associating with her. Just China market alone would be worth billions of sales. Christian Dior, the renown fashion brand, smartly distance themselves from Sharon Stones, and stop using her as their brand's spoke person the next day Sharon Stones said this stupid unpassionate thing. Any other brands who dare to associate Sharon Stones with their products will simply "shot themselves in their own foot"... ALL Chinese worldwide will boycott this brand... Guaranteed.....

3) Nowadays, China and Chinese worldwide are no longer the "old stereo-type kung fu Chinese" as many westerners thought they are. Chinese nowadays are well educated, sophisticated, well financed, well connected, intelligent.... they know how to "take revenge" to those who treat them unfairly... Not in a violent way. But by means of savvy political
and economical maneuvers...

Fortune magazine (May, 08 issue) has predicted China will surpass USA economically before 2015, and become the number ONE economy powerhouse in the world. Wake up people...

vanna

I THINK SHARON STONE IS TOTALY RIGHT SAYING THIS EARTHQUAKE IS KARMA!
SORRY BUT THERE IS A LAW CALLED KARMA !

= Karma means "deed" or "act", is the universal principle of cause
and effect, action and reaction that governs all life. Karma is not
fate, for humans act with free will creating their own destiny. If we
sow goodness, we will reap goodness; if we sow evil, we will reap
evil. Karma refers to the totality of our actions and their
concomitant reactions in THIS OR PREVIUS LIVES, all of which
determines our future. The conquest of karma lies in intelligent
action and dispassionate response.
Since the chinese people have no spiritual education, of course they
will not understand !

"I am the owner of my karma .
I inherit my karma.
I am born of my karma.
I am related to my karma.
I live supported by my karma.
Whatever karma I create, whether good or evil, that I shall inherit."

"According to the seed that’s sown,
So is the fruit you reap there from,
Doer of good will gather good,
Doer of evil, evil reaps,
Down is the seed and thou shalt taste
The fruit thereof."

Chinese people are one of the most evil people to animals, as the
bilis bears, cats, dogs and animals for fur ! What they do is pure
HORROR !They treat animals with total cruelty and even humans because
they work so hard as slaves, have no freedon of speech and dont have
humans rights. All this horror and pain they give to others comes
back the same way.
Dont think that you can hurt and be very cruel to an animal you will
not suffer the same pain ! YOU WILL FOR SURE ! Animals fell the same
we do , love, afection, pain, fear, hurt, hangry, thisty and horror
too....
THE ANIMALS ARE PRISIONERS WITHOUT FOOD, WATER, NOTHING AND THEY ARE
FISICALY HURT AS THE PEOPLE IN THE EARTHQUAKE.
Also china is one of the most causes for polution and global warming
and this is the result, the planet is screaming because is being
destroied !
Sharon Stone and everybody else is free to think and say what they
want !
We have freedon of speech ! I think we must !
= Of course is very sad what happened to the people in China.
Everybody is extreamely broken heart about this situation.
But it is karma and people have to understand that karma rules your
life and is a universal law of action and reaction and acept and be
better souls ! We cannot scape from it !
This life is likened to a field in which our Karma is the seed. We
harvest exactly what we sow !
About the animals just check here and much more !
http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=xf6Ab8nNRgI
many animals are Skinned alive too so look for : Bloody fur market in
China ! and so much more , just go to search at the internet ! CRUELTY
TO ANIMALS IN CHINA ! you will find hundreds of pictures, videos and
more information about this shooking reality ...

China has a Culture of Cruelty to animals, a long history of animal
abuse is in the spotlight as Chinese county indiscriminately
massacres animals for ages ...

SO CHINESE PEOPLE AND EVERYBODY IN THIS PLANET !
IT IS TIME TO LEARN
= if you do evil , evil will come to you
= if you do good, good will come to you

TO PEOPLE, TO NATURE AND TO ANIMALS TOO !

WE ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO SPEECH !

why we have to hide the true ?
WHY ?
EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON .
You are not a body !! You are a soul !
The Soul uses the body as a vehicle for manifestation in the fisical
world as a driver uses the car to go around !
So ! There are much more beyond your knowlodge !

We all are living by the law of karma !
BELIVE IT OR NOT !
AND IF YOU DONT THE CAUSE IS REALY IGNORANCE ! BECAUSE THIS IS THE TRUE !

alex

Sharon is nothing but a porn-star who is loosing her audience due to her fading and fat body. what can reasonable people expect from her?

“And whether we like to hear it or not, the truth is that whatever we do to others it comes back to us.”You are right. But what you belicve may not be the truth.

Annie

Ms. Stone is a dump and cruel blonde and no one will doubt about it. US media especially CNN twisted the news about what had happened in Tibet. I have watched a very reliable interview with the Mayor of Tibet and you will know Dalai Lama is really irrelevant to Tibetans. Dalai only becomes influential when he is outside the China. Dalai can only fool those who are not able to see the facts in Tibet. Afterall, when you go to Tibet, you will know how influential media can be when someone is determined to twist the facts. Open your eyes to know the truth there. Be wise.

When I first read the news of the comment Sharon made, I was so shocked!! Does she know how many children were killed?? ppl were dying in the dark under the concretes, in fear, in hunger and some even drink it own urine in order to survive. There were ppl who lost everything, home, family, loved ones and dreams were lost because their limbs had to be amputated. These are not words can be described.

I'm sure Sharon is not a cold-blooded person, but her speech is plain ignorance!! I don't like the chinese government too, but politics are politics, it is always the ppl that suffers the most when disaster hit. Millions have died and homeless, she really should give it more thought before she comment.

What does this woman ever do for this world except naked her body? She should be shameful and feels guilty in the rest of her life for what she said about China earthquake. She is not a human. So we don't talk about anything else here. Personally, I don't want to see anything relating to this woman anymore. I barely knew her anyway.

If she was a friend of Dalai Lama, such comments would not have flown out of her senseless brain. Such comments have no place in this world.

Ying

She is so effected by Dalai and barainwashed by him. But maybe she doesn't know that lot of people effected by this earth quake are tiben. And maybe she also dosen't know that when all china are try to rescue people, Dalai is tripping in Eu and did nothing for this earth quake.
BTW, this world not belongs to Stone and would not do the way as she likes not not. How can she be so ignorance and did she reallz has a IQ with 140?

allah ha ha

Hey Prophet
The Tsunami a few years ago was KARMA for all of your Islamic terrorist friends and yourself.
There is one God and his name ain't allah.

grace

Karma? to whom? Over 60% earthquake victims are Tibetan people and then it was some Tibetans who set the riots and killed many innocent Han people... The difference between her and us is we treat every human as human no matter ethnicity or country. That's why the whole country is now putting every effort to save each life!

Aida Olsen

I am really curious that where this kind of comment come from, no one is deserved to die in the earthquake for any reason, it is just a natural issue. Are all the hollywood stars brainless?

Quency, PA

I wonder what kind of influence of the Dalai Lama on her...was Sharon brainwashed by the Lamaist so much that she lost her mind?

Well I find Stone's comments shocking and discusting. People have had to dig up their crushed children's bodies and they have had everything torn from them - and Ms Stone thinks its Karma for something a government has done? What did the babies do that "wasn't nice"? I feel ashamed of Sharon Stone. And shame on anyone who said 911 is also Karma. Innocent people dying in an earthquake is a tragedy. 911 was murder. Karma effects the individual perpetrators so there may be some bad karma coming Sharon Stone's way soon.

Jared Ashton

Yeah it could well karma..So according to your ingenious theories, what about 911? And what about katrina? Btw Ms Stone in case if you haven't heard, due to your highly inappropriate comments about the quake, the chinese entertainment industry has decided not to run your 'famous' films which induces a loss of 2.5m incomes to your film. Perhaps thats bad karma too?

Prophet

I am from Middle East, when I see American people screaming, running and dying when the twin towers collapse into rubbles, I am wondering "interesting.....is that a Karma?"

In the sense that the terrorists indeed feel their homeland and people are abused by the US and they need a revenge and make a statement, 911 is more a Karma than the earthquake, isn't it? How would Americans feel about it if Ms Stone said something like this when tens of thousands people were still frenzily and desperately searching for their beloved under the concrete and steel?

angela

What a heartless comment to make publicly, even if she really does have an IQ of 140 (doubtful) what she does have in intellectual capacity is seriously compromised by her lack of emotional and spiritual intelligence.

Xiaoying Lu

As a Chinese, I will never forget and forgive Sharon Stone for her comment on the earthquake in China. It completely exposed her ignorance and inhuman side of nature, and I believe millions of Chinese people around the world will not tolerate her comments. She is famous and influencial, she could had used that in a positive way, but unfortunately she hurt Chinese's people's feeling. Chinese people will become more united and strengthened after this disaster, and we will rebuild our homeland more beautiful. On the other hand, I believe she will get her Karma soon. I, as many Chinese people, will refuse to buy any product that is associated or represented by her. Her image will be shun out of China forever, it is not an act decided by the government, it will be a will of people.

"...but at least she dared to critize the Chinesse goverment for their kiilings and tortures of the Tibetans..."

I want to ask "did you/ how much did you SEE what ever happened in Tibet?"

If you are not Tibetan there, or a friend of them, or even living in China, then what you saw in TV/web on what ever happened in Tibet before was just a part of the truth. ( you should know how Steven Spielberg can make a excellent movie by joining clips.)

Many people say how bad the Chinese Government/ even Chinese is. But please study more before you say something you are not really really know- You should know how strong and effective the media are. It is really easy to distribute information from the sides opposing Chinese governemnt, as she never gets respect and agreement if she says how well she does to her citizens spontaneously to the public. Then, after you know more, you can have your stance, and try to HELP the Chinese, not just to criticize, or pull down the government there, it may do more harm!

Or if you just want to bullshxt without a willing heart to help, then, find another way to spend you time and energy.

BAO BAO

Critize???

What does she know about???
What does Dalai lama know about the suffering of "his" people in Tibet?

The earthquake-hit areas are called Ethnic Tibetant Autonomous Region, which is near to Tibet.

This means most victims in the earthquake are Tibetan. If Sharon said it’s karma, then it’s a karma for Dalai Lama. Where is Dalai when Chinses government rescued those Tibetan?

Monica

It may have been awkard the way she expressed it, but at least she dared to critize the Chinesse goverment for their kiilings and tortures of the Tibetans. Few famous people have the courage to speak up fearing economic consequences. And whether we like to hear it or not, the truth is that whatever we do to others it comes back to us. There is no escape. What a pity that most people act as if they would be able to get away with anything...

DerekToronto

You just cant blame normal chinese people for the treatment of Tibetans. Its like saying all germans are Hitler! Her comments are extremely insenitive.
