Tatum O'Neal arrested after buying crack
Ex-Mrs. John McEnroe and Oscar-winner Tatum O'Neal was arrested Sunday night in Manhattan after buying cocaine and crack blocks from her dee-luxe apartment on the Lower East Side. The New York Post reports the 44-year-old was arrested at 7:30 p.m. by constables who nabbed her after she made the buy.
"When the police approached, she asked them, 'You know who I am, right?' " a source told the paper. "Then she said, 'I'm researching a part -- I'm doing this for a part.' "
Cops apparently found a pipe on the actress, but it hadn't been used to smoke any rocks. She had battled drugs and booze before going to rehab in 1996
"Then she said she'd been clean for two years, and that she'd just came out today," the source said. O'Neal then apparently asked detectives, "Can't we just forget about this?" That would be no.
The suspected dealer, Alan Garcia, was arrested too. O'Neal was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and making us remember how good she was in Paper Moon (and more recently, Rescue Me) and then feeling sad that she's fallen off the wagon again.
