Olympic Juice*: Leryn Franco, Alicia Sacramone
From our pals at tbt*'s SportsTalk: We’re sure they don’t give out medals for this, but the InterWebs have been all abuzz over who is the Hottest Female Athlete in Beijing. That's our type of event.
Most of the fawning has been over Leryn Franco (above), a 26-year-old javelin thrower from Paraguay who is competing in her second Olympics. Franco, who drew the notice of fan boys when she marched in the opening ceremonies, thanks her off-the-field career with helping get her to the Games.
"Modelling is a way for me to continue with my sport, the hours are flexible, and you can earn good money through photographic modelling and the catwalk," she tells the Economic Times of India. Franco was the runner-up in the Miss Paraguay competition in 2006 and also in the Miss Bikini Universe pageant the same year. By the way, the field events begin this week. Despite the interest in Franco, it appears that an American is the real golden girl. According to the Los Angeles Times, immediately after last week's gymnastics competition, the phrase "Alicia Sacramone is hot" shot to No. 1 on Google's hot trends list (that's her at right). We need to cheer the home team on this one.
