Nick Nolte narrowly escapes Malibu house fire
Actor Nick Nolte suffered a cut to his hand escaping a fast-moving fire that destroyed his Malibu home, officials said Tuesday. Authorities said the blaze broke out at 11:34 a.m. and caused about $1.5 million in damage, down from initial estimates of $3.5 million. Nolte was forced to break through a window to escape the flames, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
When authorities arrived, the home was fully engulfed by flames. They believe an electrical malfunction sparked the fire in the living room, the L.A. Times reports. The 67-year-old actor also inhaled some smoke but was not hospitalized, Los Angeles County fire Inspector Sam Padilla told the AP.
“He is seeing his private physician” for the injuries, he said. The electrical fire started in the living room, and Nolte apparently tried to put out the fire before firefighters arrived, Padilla said.
It took firefighters about 10 minutes to douse the blaze, which damaged part of the house, Padilla said. Nolte’s publicist, Arnold Robinson, said in an e-mail statement that there was an electrical fire at the house but no one was injured and there was no structural damage.
