Paula Goodspeed's brother blames Paula Abdul
The brother of Paula Goodspeed, the American Idol wannabe found dead in a car outside Paula Abdul's home this week, rips on the judge for for detroying his sister's life, the New York Post reports.
Charles McIntyre says Goodspeed had withered to 78 pounds after eating disorders and a broken heart ruined her, the paper says.
"(Abdul) didn't speak up for her. She let everyone take her down," McIntyre told the Post. "She (Abdul) said she was 'speechless,' when she could have said something in her defense."
Abdul also told the season five tryout that her performance was "not a great thing." Randy Jackson called Goodspeed's performance "terrible." And McIntyre also digs into Simon Cowell, who had also gotten some shots in by saying he didn't know how Goodspeed could sing with "all that metal in her mouth."
"I think Simon went way too far, I mean talking about her braces," McIntyre says. "That was just uncalled for."
All this, naturally, led to Goodspeed's drug overdose in her car, which McIntyre says may all have been a simple coincidence.
"She could have pulled over on the side of the road for a rest," he says. Somehow we think that's unlikely. Also unlikely is that the American Idol crew are the ones who ultimately destroyed Goodspeed, though McIntyre says Goodspeed's mother had moved to Thousand Oaks, Calif., to care for her daughter. They were due to move back to Maine this week.
"When someone sees you on American Idol being told you're no good ... her career just went downtown after that," McIntyre says.

Make this your daily (heck, hourly) stop for a fresh serving of pop smarts and cool things from around Tampa Bay and the nation. Compiled by tbt* jack-of-all-trades Joshua Gillin and his merry band of rogue journalists, it pokes fun at ridiculous celebrity worship, collects entertainment tidbits and features fun links to amuse and amaze you and your friends.

It's so unfortunate that such a beautiful woman would take her life because of an obsession with another person. She was crying out for help and her family did not get her the help she desperately needed. Her family needs to accept the blame for this tragic death and not blame others. Everyone who has ever watched American Idol knows that you will be subjected to ridicule, if you lack the talent. And everyone knows that Simon Cowell lacks common sense when it comes to his sarcastic mean comments. However, family and friends should have done everything in their power to prevent this girl from participating in the audition. Being honest about a person's abilities and talents is important and family and friends should have done all that they could have to helped Paula Goodspeed. They did not and now she is gone.

Sounds obvious to me that it was a mistake for her family to try to take her to Maine. She obviously felt L.A. was her home and trying to take her away was destroying her goals and esteem even more than the idol judges. Her last attempt at connecting to her dreams was her nearness to Abdul's house. Also, whatever happened at the doctors appointment that day must have really been depressing. Whether dying was intentional or not, she went to be close to one of her ties to her dreams in her last moments of despair on this earth. She had so much artistic spirit and talents. There was something in her spirit that makes me miss this girl greatly that I only learned of due to her death. I'm sorry we lost her here on earth R.I.P. Paula Goodspeed.

While it's sad that this young lady took her life, I don't think anybody is buying into her brothers sob story. She obviously had issues that went way deeper than Paula Abdul and American Idol. The family doesn't want to own up to her problems. Instead, they are trying to take the easy way out and are using it to gain the spotlight.
How about you admit that your sister had issues and you outline them for people. Then maybe you can speak to some young girl who might be going through those same issues. No, let's just take no responsibility. Great job, McIntyre family.

If you can't handle criticism then auditioning for American Idol (or being in the public eye) is not for you! Anyone with half a brain cell knows that the judges will be brutally honest in their opinions.
Look at the celebs who are ragged on everyday for every little thing - Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, etc. They have had to have a thick skin.

Simon doesn't know what braces are because people rarely use those in Britain.

The family should have been more involved with Paula and gotten her the help she needed. That is what is wrong with society, blaming everyone but those who are truly at fault!
After 5 seasons of Idol, those contestants knew what was in store for them with being harrassed by the judges.
I do feel bad for Paula Goodspeed. I hope that she is resting peacefully now.

Charles
Do you think that you should of helped your SISTER out? You knew she had problems but did YOU do anything.
I dont watch Idol, but I know you can't blame the judges, they do what they are paid to do.
Maybe Paula and the rest of the judges can sue you for slander.

Maybe it's Goodspeed's brother's fault for not telling her she was a terrible singer.

I agree with Patti. Bailey.I am glad to her someone else has the same story as me and that is the real story. I know Sandra "Paula" . She has been ill for many years. Way before American Idol! I have been reading so much stuff about her family saying it was Paula Abduls fault. It wasn't. I was watching TMZ and when they said a stalker died outside of Paula Abduls house I know rate then it was Sandra "Paula". I live in Maine this is where Paula Goodspeed grew up. I remember her having mental issues when she was a teenager. If one was to really do research on her family they would find many family members with issues. I hope Paula Goodspeed RIP. She finally got what she wanted and that is everyone to know her She was crying for attention. It really breaks my heart her family needed to do more. So please stop putting the blame on American Idol and Paula Abdul. To her family members, Step back away from the reporters and morn the loss of Paula.
There is a difference between a stalker and a fan. I am a fan of Will Smith but I would never stalk him.Paula totally crossed the line many years ago and her family should've helped her the same way they are lining up for interviews of her death.

Let me guess, a wrongful death lawsuit next, huh?

Sure. . .point the finger at Paula and the other judges. Don't acknowledge that your sister was just an unstable whackjob. This is the problem with people these days. . . no one knows what it means to be accountable and want to pass blame around like a hot potato.

Wait a minute. You mean the judges on 'American Idol' might be...a-holes?
Posted by: Simon | November 14, 2008 at 06:32 PM
So it's a celebrity's fault that a delusional stalker kills herself?
Instead of, oh I don't know, maybe her family who never got help for the girl?

I am with you John!

Paula was a stalker. Her family knows of her obsession and has all along. Ms. Goodspeed formerly Sandra McIntyre, was married to someone I know very well several years ago and they came to California to stay with my ex-husband and I. She told us at the time that she had changed her name to Paula because of Paula Abdul and that she was going to be just like her. She had pictures and drawings that she made in full notebooks. She asked us repeatedly to drive her to Ms. Adduls' home, which we refused to do. She was not a mean spirited person at all, but was extremely delusional and her family was well aware of her obsession. They are trying to place the blame where it does not lie. I am sure her feelings were hurt at the A.I. auditions, but this obsession with Paula Abdul started well over twenty years ago. Ms. Abdul has no idea how fortunate she is to have gotten away with this person simply sending her flowers and sitting outside her house. When I heard on the news that a stalker died outside of Paula Abdul's house I knew immediately who it was and although I am very saddened by it, not surprised.

GET A LIFE YOU STUPID MORON. If most of us plain old folk let anyones opinion make us do this sort of thing, then by God we deserved it. You are as much to blame for her death as your sister, knowing she was like this and needed professional help. What did YOU do for her??? Not a damned thing I bet. Or are you mad because she didn't share her drugs with you??? Put the blame where it really lies, yours and her shoulders, No one else's.
