Two big questions
Just some thoughts after the second intermission:
1.) The scoreboard says this game is tied at 2, but it's just hard to believe Tampa Bay is still in this game. They've been outshot 25-14 and most of the second period was played in the Lightning's defensive zone. Holmer made some big saves, and the Lightning survived several scares. But I guess it shows how dangerous the Lightning offense is. But it's hard to believe Tampa Bay can survive a third period like its second.
2) Jim Nantz is on the video board here pitching the Devils' new arena in Newark. Man, Newark looks like such a nice place on the computer-generated building plans. Who woulda thunk it? They're promising that there's not a bad seat in the house, that's if you make it there alive.

Follow the Lightning through the season with beat writer Damian Cristodero and the Times sports staff. We invite your participation in the comments area.
Cut the "if you make it there alive" crap. As is the case with many cities, crime in Newark tends to be concentrated in bad residential neighborhoods ravaged by drugs. Downtown Newark, where the Arena is being completed, is about as safe as any major city in this country. Considering that most people attending a game or concert will be traveling in groups on streets filled with eventgoers and guarded by police, the likelihood of any dangerous incident affecting people on the way to or from the Arena is going to be about none in a million. People who want to see the New Newark and shake themselves free of outdated stereotypes can find hundreds of fotos at www.ResurgenceCity.org and http://newarkusa.blogspot.com.
