Lightning re-sign Stewart

The re-signed left wing Karl Stewart to a one-year, two-way contract, general manager Jay Feaster announced in a news release. Stewart, acquired in a trade with Chicago in February, skated in seven games with the Lightning, recording two shots and two penalty minutes. A 5-foot-11, 180-pound native of Aurora, Ontario, Stewart, 24, appeared in 47 NHL games with Tampa Bay, Chicago and Pittsburgh last season, recording two goals, three assists and 47 penalty minutes.

Karl is an adgitator, a Sean Avery type that gets under your skin. He can be useful to bring up for games where such an attribute is needed. The one thing I like about Karl, is that he is not affraid to lay the leather to you. He is fast and love's to finish his checks. If Jason Ward goes down to injury or someone else on the checking line, Karl can fill that void.

february 28, 2007 karl stewart is a one-man wrecking ball that will fit perfectly into our system.....another quote of the day from jay barnum.....another one of our gifted 24 year old minimum wage players.....i so look forward to the rest of the free agent season.....24 years old and 2 career nhl goals.....we were playing 9 forwards the last 5-10 games and he didn't even get a shot......houdini????

If Karl has a great deal to offer the Lightning, aside from playing a role with its minor league affiliate, I failed to detect it from what little I saw of him last year. At 24 years of age, he now needs to display strong signs of talent and maturity if he has any chance of contributing to the parent club. This telling year, I expect we shall see what he can do to enhance his career in hockey.

Looks like Karl will be headed to Norfolk as we have 4 lines somewhat set except the 4th line center, as long as Lightning can sign Ryan Craig! GO LIGHTNING!
